It absolutely is about the music and not about the equipment, HOWEVER, if the equipment is so shitty that it actually gets in the way of your mixing (like the Torq software is, I know, I've used it before), then it sort of does become about the equipment. ANYBODY with half a brain can be a passable DJ, but it takes some actual effort and talent to be a good DJ.

Will.I.Am is riding his success with the Black Eyed Peas and if he wants to prove himself as a DJ outside of that world he needs to do more than pick out a combination of banger electro tracks from the last 4 years and auto-sync them on his macbook pro.

If he gets his shit together, gets a Serato setup (I have nothing against laptop DJs if it's passable software), and starts some mixing a few less overplayed tracks in more creative ways, I'll stop hating.

@SteezSkateTeam2k10 Word, DJing isnt about who produces the better music, its all about who makes the crowd want to dance and have a good fucking time, and according to this video just about everyone there was diggin it, people are just haters because they cant become an instant DJ. Obviously having been in the BEP helped will.I.am, but i bet if he started from scratch he would still make it, he shreds.

Agreed, and don't get me wrong, I LOVE warp. That was my shit in 2009. But this is 2010. That song was dropped in practically every electro and house DJ set for a year straight. It has now been well over a year since its release and part of being a good DJ is remaining relevant with new music and keeping the crowd guessing. A good electro DJ would give warp a rest at this point, at least for a little while.

And I'll give Major Lazer a pass on dropping Warp cause they do it more creatively.

When I saw them, they were playing Pon De Floor, the crowd was going wild during the build-up, Skerrit Bwoy, their hype man, was up on a ladder about to jump off on to one of the dancers, and right on the drop they mixed into the drop in Warp. No one saw it coming, people flipped, and they backspun the track a few seconds later anyway. It was more of just a tease.
