Leafs are a big joke. But it's not about players anymore. It's not even about the teams. It's about the tycoons who own the teams and squeeze every cent of profit.
yep the best team ever in hockey thats why the leafs beat them with 2 lines 2 defence men and 1 goalie in the stanely cup finals during the second world war (the only way any hab can do good wartime players)
For this season, I wish the Leafs could win the Cup so that it would teach these Bruins a lesson. Next year, though, unless they trade their first-rounder to a team I hate, Golf Leafs Golf!
But, if this story was written today, it would have been a Bruins jersey instead. Go Habs Go!
@A350Airways the Maple Leafs were the traditional rival of the Canadiens for national (British/French Canadian divide) as well as cultural reasons. At the old Maple Leaf Gardens they would sing "God Save the Queen" before every game and until the 1970's, there was a portrait of Her Majesty the Queen hung in the rafters. I think if the Leafs didn't suck today, there would still be a meaningful rivalry between them and the Habs.
And besides all that, it shows how hockey is so firmly embedded into Canada's national culture, like baseball and football are here.
I mean, if you're a kid growing up in Boston, and your mom makes you wear a New York Yankees hat she ordered by accident, or if you live in Los Angeles and you root for the 49ers and wear their jersey in Raider Territory...you know what I mean.
I'm a die-hard New York Mets fan and San Francisco 49ers fan and Anaheim Ducks fan--ALL HATED IN LA! XD
Wow, I thought I was being set up for the kid "accepting things and blah blah blah and his moom loved him and all that" and becoming a Maple Leafs fan or something...
Instead, he reacts the way an actual kid would act--"NOT THE LEAFS!" XD
Poor kid...I mean, not the end of the world, there are worse things, but really--his mom was the one whoi goofed, and who cares if some shipper is "insulted?"
And he has to go ask forgiveness for breaking his stick in anger?
@iLuvBarRefaeli I LOVE hockey...and it was the offseason when I watched it, so I was craving any hockey/hockey-related material, as my Mets were already eliminated from contention and my 49ers sucked (though now they're doing well again...hooray!)
But I DO love hockey, and Canada, I hope to visit someday, it looks like you guys have a really nice country up there...and I'll have to go see a hockey game, of course, when In visit (hooray for the jets coming back, too!)
"Don't think you can lay down the law around here just because you wear the Maple Leafs sweater". LOL. I haven't seen this in so many years. I remember watching this at school so many times in the 70's. I lived an hour from Buffalo so some kids liked the Sabres, the bullies always chose Philly and the rest were either Leafs or Habs fans so I got mocked from all angles with my #35 BlackHawks jersey on the frozen pond.
This might be the best pure Canadiana video ever! Growing up in Toronto as a Montreal Canadiens fan I always wondered how a kid my age viewed the Habs in their home province...and this gave me a very clear idea. Just a great job by Monsieur Carrier!
This piece of pure Canadiana is actually quoted on the back of the Canadian Five Dollar note: The winters of my childhood were long, long seasons. We lived in three places - the school, the church and the skating rink - but our real life was on the skating rink.

Today it would be wrong to where a Maurice Richard sweater. It would be more appropriate to wear a banker's suit and tie.

Habs suck, keep on rioting when you miss the playoffs without Halak. Carey Price won't win you the cup.
