Eli Roth and movie makers like him are nothing more than hack shock technicians who work on an absolute base level. Roth has no time nor understanding of subtlety and suspense. He couldn't produce something of the quality of 'The Shining' for example... that was a genuinely scary film. Hostel however, is just your basic jock hack em up el cheapo blood lust film... but sadly, Roth's style of crap is perfect for many of today's film goers.

Oh... I should mention for the younger readers of this post... I meant the 'Shining' that was made in the 1980's with Jack Nicholson in the lead role. The remake was crap and would be much more to the liking of Mr Roth and Co.

I hate hostel- hate hate hate hate HATE hostel. BUT. I love Eli Roth, in cameos, interviews, and stuff like cabin fever. It's weird- I Love the guy, but I kind of hate his movie making style. ANYWAY- seeing as he's basically only getting started out, I'm sure he'll eventually put out something I love!

I am Czech and the last war there was in Slovakia ended 65 yrs ago. I was being ironic about the amateurism of the script writers who don't bother to find basic facts...

But yeah, my country pulls all this shit in iraq "to spread democracy." we basically colonize iraq to make it "more democratic." Why didn't we "fix" a country in more need that Iraq? Answer is oil. It's ridiculously obvious. There were so many countries to "help," if you can call it that, why did we choose the one with oil? Also, my cousin is Czech. Curly hair, strong runner.

@jakubpetricek dude that was the whole point, that guy was lying to the two guys to get them to go to slovakia. He knew they wouldn't care and just be ignorant about there being a war. Did you see the second one? The girls are told that there hasn't been a war in slovakia in ages, Eli commented on this in an interview, it was all about telling the americans what they wanted to hear.

Roth then laughably tries to add gravitas to this celluloid effluent by drawing socio-political parallels

Self important, talentless little turd who probably got bullied at school and now finally gets to vent his frustrations on film for being short/nerdy/jewish

alot of people believe that the Hostel movie are just movie to gross people out but those movie were done in the 80s. this movie actually ties into real fear and thinking that "what if that happend to me" given that it's not sci-fi. Eli is a horror master.

The director that horror has been waiting for? I don't know... Most people would say Rob Zombie is that guy. Though I think Eli has more talent than Rob, Lucky McKee has more talent still than both. If he keeps directing, he'll get over The Woods and make a great horror film again. He has a much greater focus.

I agree mariakai. I guess you could say it is a credit to the directors as to how real they make it seem, but that stuff is way to real for me. There is enough torture and mutilation in real life.
