Whats even more annoying is growing grass on floating objects (just like a floating island). Done that once. Took me about 30 Minutes to build a dirt staircase up to the island and something that felt like infinity to get the grass to grow all the way up... ^^

It's way easier to go down by digging a 2*1 hole in the ground going down with dirt acting as a way down. Grass doesn't have to be adjacent when it comes to height, it can be 2 below it I believe. I tried it when I made a classic 2*2 staircase out of dirt and the grass quickly went down it to near bedrock. You just have to keep th area well lit with torches of course.

Hm, I want to grow grass underground, but I didn't build a staircase, but a ladder to two blocks above bedrock. I thought water and torches would be sufficient :/

@pexeq grass only grows within 3 blocks of a grass block.

so you can safely make a farm with torches 3 blocks off the ground supported/staircase out of anything not dirt without mobs spawning and walking over the crops.

this also prevents underground grass to grow if it doesnt have a dirt connection

@StrawberryRizla well if you mean marijuana I highly suggest a green house above your underground to covert the heat it will be producing :P the tennesse marijuana cave got caught when plane flew over and saw huge heat signature. If they put green house it would've made it alot less suspicious, but yes I agree with you, they will never catch me :D
