  • It somewhat looks in their eyes that they have a tear there too. So beautiful, will recommend this to my choir since i know they would love this beautiful song.

  • WHO DISLIKED THIS VIDEO

  • By far the best acapella goup I've ever heard. Period!

  • so beautiful..

Thnkz for sharing the joy with me,

    Gb. :)

  • this gives me the willies

  • i think their bass has more resonance than all of the choirs in my county. and that's a lot of choirs

  • I'm not much of an emotional person, but this brings a tear to my eye.

  • The best part of their singing is the fact they aren't just singing, they are feeling the music.

  • The King's Singers can not possibly pay that bass enough money... wow! He is like a human sub-woofer.

  • the chord at 2:55...absolutely beautiful!!!!

  • Smiling through the tears. Beautiful, no matter the provenance.

  • what album is this on?

  • My favorite part was 0:08 - 3:32 (:

  • Bung

  • My favorite guy is the short one. He's soo cute. That's just my opinion :)

  • @pinkelephantsarecool he's also a very nice guy (so are they all btw) and has the most perfect breath control in the world.

And everyone, please quit this childish quarrel and enjoy this great music! I am not near Irish and this tune always hits home with me too!

beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Thanks, King's Singers!

  • I disliked this for the soul fact that danny boy is not an irish folk song and they should not advertise it as such it was written by a English lawyer and set to the tune of an irish folk song.

  • @jinjubei you mean the lyrics were set to the tune of an English folk tune? Welcome to the world of folk music. It's the lyrics that make the tune so poignant. The tune is one of the greats of all time, and has been sung at the funerals of men and women for years and years. Do the world a favor and crawl back into your hole.

  • @55DepotStreet Londonderry Air is an Irish folk tune and is the original music that the lyrics were set to as written by the ENGLISH lawyer Frederic Weatherly in the year 1913. sir if you are going to assault something i say at least get your facts right.

  • @jinjubei If you are going to assault someone at least use the right sole. Sole, not soul, buddy. And regardless of who it was written by, it hits home with the Irish folk the most. Ergo, Irish folk song.

  • @jinjubei

Few new england folk songs are native to new england. Origin is somewhat irrelevant when it comes to classifying something as a folk song.

  • galing galing galing!!!!!

  • Wow. I didn't know Mr. Bean sang bass!

  • 4 people don't know what music is.

I must have watched this video literally about a hundred times by now... So much great. Is there anywhere I can buy this arrangement? I want it!

  • @beckibloom go on their website. I got it ages ago because i love it so much.

  • @djmcnerd Thanks for the tip!

  • I feel like this music is a happy ending to the wounded soul.

  • Does anyone else think that guy looks like Rowan Atkinson?

  • 2:56 My heart exploded, then melted into a fine Irish stew.

  • @Iwantajazzmaster That moment is absolutely AWSOME!!! Can´t detect wich chord is that!!

  • @ritaymariano & @thrinninfreer:

(It assumes Do3 = central Do of the piano)

    The chord is: Mi1-Sol#2-Re3-Fa#3-Sol#3-Do#4

This part of the song is in E major

    I've got the score... ;-)

  • @Narvaez314 I'm definitely hearing a La in there, a fifth below high Mi...

  • @Narvaez314 This is what I got, from low to high: Do, Mi, Re, Mi, La, Mi. I put these notes into Finale and it sounds about right.

  • @aking529 yeah its a major 13th chord i dunno the voicing though particularly.

  • perfect pitch. perfect timing. perfect harmony. perfect song.

  • WOW! Just... WOW!

  • Beautiful.... wow!

  • Someone could tell me an error of that music??? It's perfect! :O

  • what a solid base

  • @pixiekiui *bass. besides that minor spelling error, you are absolutely correct. ground shaking bass.

  • Someone tell me how to have a beatiful falsetto like the soprano guy

  • @oaoJ69Joao Instead of working on your chest voice, sing in falsetto, even if its normally comfortable in chest voice.

  • Danny boy is amazing and those tenor notes make me happy to be a tenor.

  • "So, to one of Ireland's best known, and best loved, folk songs . . ."

^ I love this, because the guy who wrote Danny Boy wasn't even Irish.

  • @AcidicCritic The lyrics may have been written by an Englishman but the tune to which they are set is most definitely Irish.

  • beautiful baritone solo. simply amazing

  • the falsetto is beautiful!!

  • Goosebumps!!

  • Simply incredible!! Thank you Kings!!!,!

  • 2 people don't love Danny Boy.

  • wow, that is crazy...tight...tight boys.

  • A treat for the ears, and an example of the beauty of the human voice.

  • Music this beautiful is so healing... I don't know how, but my heart feels whole and I feel secure in the fact that I am loved.

  • danny boy is not really an Irish folk sony.. the text was written by an Englishman - Weatherley - around the turn of the century - and then later the present music was taken from (yes Irish) immigrants in the USA - so a bit of a mix English/Irish American - who knows where the tune really originates..

As for the version - I love it, but I can understand someone who doesn't find the schmalzy version by the King's Singers to their taste. One negative vote is understandable.

  • I can't go to sleep because I keep watching these videos!

  • Awesome overtone at 2:54

  • @goodhumourman my god yes!! :) wow! :)

  • Who f'n cares about dislikes? You actually look for/at it, and give a sh*t? It could be the most beautiful thing to one/most, but will still get dislikes..

  • 1:18

    Enough said.

  • @asongwithoutwords im a soprano and thats almost kind of high for me!!! KS are so great!!!!

  • @supiiergirl99 Are you sure you're not an Alto then? :P

  • @Scrubulus haha im defs a soprano bc i can hit a high e above the staff but i cant make it sound that good you know, like blend i guess you can say..i'm not a bad singer i just sound better with low notes...and i was exagerating if you know what i mean. Actually did you know that guys can hit higher pitches than girls? weird little fact lol

  • @asongwithoutwords Nah, it is definitely 2:54!

  • That one dislike comes from such a big fan...i bet he or she wanted to give them a heart so he /she pressed the RED button...xD

  • the guy who sings bass disliked becouse the top comment is about his resemblince to Mr Bean

  • perfect hit from that cute, lil soprano 1 dude lol

  • perfect balance they sound like a single instrument.

  • this is overbearingly beautiful...!

  • I love this song. <3

  • the one high voice is pissing me off

  • he is Stephen Connolly and he lovely. i sung with him. and i have his autograph. they dont use those things. they actually singing ive heard him singing and he is awesome lovely and deep. it sends a feeling into you.

  • Oooooooh that bass! Oooooooooh!!!! BEAUTIFUL

  • @garywonders Either that, or their eyes were so teary they couldn't find the "Like" button. That's why I never rate songs that are THIS beautiful and sad.... I cry easily when I hear this song

  • hahaha ! yeah he does look like Mr. Rowan Atkinson indeed.

  • Archie Bunker's a countertenor???

  • did stephen lose lot of weight in here??

  • Beautifully sung as expected of these folks. I love their arrangements and their performances.

By the way, I still can't believe that apparently each King's Singers videos needs this "highest rated comment" about Mr. Bean as bass. Guess no one's tired of reading that. : |

  • Glad they've kept this arrangement over the years - quite lovely.

  • 2:52-2:57 - made me shivers...exceptional voices and vocal arrangement

  • The dissonance at 0:48 <3

  • Seriously, this is one of if not thee best things I've ever heard. I can't stop listening to this.

  • one almost feels guilty hovering his mouse over the dislike button.

  • Robin is so under renown within the group. In my opinion, he is one of the best singers.

  • @themrqwertymark Sadly not with the group any more though. Tim Wayne-Wright is now 2nd counter, he's very good too.

  • Watch Phillip's tongue at 1:00 LOL

  • performances like this.. are timeless.. i

  • how can your heart not soar at 2:54. Good God that was absolutely beautiful. If only more groups would make delicious chords like that.

  • A 14 year old tenor from Washington State looks up to that fine tenor

  • guys, i think there must be somebody to stop the argument over being 'at the right pitch'.

ever heard of the term 'choral effect'? where voices are off 'pitch' very slightly to obtain the resonance - that's what makes choral singing so different amongst any other type of music!

it's fine if they stay on pitch or a little bit off. it sounds as beautiful either way.

  • @iwanabana very true. after all, perfection itself is an imperfection :)

  • I want to meet the one guy that disliked this video

  • @GCX124 are you going to beat him up too?

  • @GCX124 so do i,how could someone dis like this?its amazing!!!

  • @GCX124 And beat his head in with bagpipes.

  • @GCX124 Two, awk if was me huh?

  • @uppersnseniors Just a little...

  • @GCX124 Please remember that murder is wrong

  • if i could only have their tenors solto voche =3

  • WOW!!! killed it. I was getting sick of looking for the right version on here. Thank god I didn't give up before i found this one!

  • @BonefidePsychonaut - I've been searching for just right version as well. I've found it. Thanks to the King's Singers.

  • they are just FUCKING AMAZING!!!!

  • is that cadogan hall?

  • world class singing. This is musicianship of thye absolute highest standard.

I was brought up on the Kings Singers of the Brian Kay,Simon Carrington.Bob Chilcott vintage and these guys absolutely match them - and more. Bravo !

The Peter Knoght arrangement is perfection.

  • 2:54 = my heart broke <3 SWOON

  • 2:54 = incredible.

  • Ugh the chord @ 2:54 gives me chills!

  • exelante

  • To all the people that have made the comments to do with tuning ect, have another listen. And maybe take the time to hear the bloody brilliant sound they make as a vocal ensemble, stop complaining! the chord at 2:45 is stunning, you don't need perfect pitch to realise that.

  • Perfect! Thank you!

  • It is so amazing what these guys do with their voices. And 2.54 believe me is so incredible good. Not only this song but many many other songs became jewels on the crown of acapalla voices. Long before other groups trying to imitate this way of singing they were famous.

And yes. Mr Bean sings bass.

  • 2:54, wow

  • Don't listen to the chord at 2:54 and tell me they can't tune. That's a hard chord, and they nailed it.

  • @Shmandy1114 This chord is a "simple" E 13;

-the bass has to sing the root

    - 2nd baritone sings the 5th

    - then comes the 1st baritone with a minor 7

    - the tenor sings 9th

    - the 2nd countertenor sings another third

    - the 1st countertenor sings the 13th

Most of the acapella jazz groups sing this kind of chord. But if you want to hear some real accuracy on jazz chords, I suggest you go check Take 6 out!

  • actually Mr. Perfect Pitch, to properly tune chords and notes you can't rely on equal temperament and being at a particular pitch. Depending on what part of the chord the note is depends on how it tunes. i.e. Major 3rd's need to be a little flat to settle in tune. Their intonation is outstanding... that's the point.

  • very very nice

  • Who cares if you have perfect pitch? Anyway, this is great.

  • Very beautifully performed. By far one of my favorites.

  • Sir Rowan Atkison is really a multifaceted individual.

  • wonderfull

  • The most beautiful singing of Danny Boy I have ever heard

  • btw, i do hear the high high G# at 2:54 as well, but it MUST be some sort of overtone, because that particular melody line doesnt seem to exist from the next note on...and if there is a part that goes way up there JUST for that one note, thats really poor arranging.

  • @fledgehog Music has no rules. Sorry to let you down.

  • @darkmaste81 Sorry to tell you, but music has a shit load of rules. Ever heard of theory?

  • @Nf9456 Lol, maybe in western culture. But if you observe the world, you'll find that there are no rules. Why don't you listen to Meredith Monk in the states to hear music with no rules. Or better yet, go to India, hear their scales. Go to Africa and listen to their complicated beat patterns. Go to Egypt and hear their intervals? Hell, listen to trees in the wind, or an ocean wave. That's not music? Hear an argument between couples. Now try to write down rules for all those things.

  • @fledgehog Nah, the melody is still there, it moves back down in a few steps. It's a little hard to hear, I think because the timbre of hie voices changes from that highest pitch to the ones a few notes later. It sounds like he had to ease back into that particular range.

  • no, theyre not all spot on all the time. the lowest B at 0:48 is blatantly flat, at 1:14 someone is off (can't exactly tell which note), 1:39 the highest D# and possibly the B below it are off. would you like more examples?

by the way, im just pointing these out to kick all the other people who said they were spot-on in the face. this is a fantastic performace with beautiful voices and harmonies.

  • Who hear doesn't have perfect pitch?

  • @MercuryMerk I don't! YAY!

  • i have perfect pitch too! haha that's so cool. but yeah these guys are amazing. I love their harmony

  • They are as close to perfection as a singing group will ever get. Absolutely Stunning. Awe inspiring, tear evoking performance!

  • I know that they are awesome and everything... but.. OMG 1:25 it's freakin' Mr.BEAN xD

  • Wow, I'm not usually one to say this stupid generic youtube quote-- but this is deserving of it..

One person watching this must have had their ears shut off the whole time.

That or their finger slipped when they were headed for the 'like' button.

Holy crapola, King's singers- you give meaning to the world perfection. Tears to my eyes every time. How are you born with voices like that?! Pitch, harmony, blending, emotion- all SPOT on. Thank you for making such beautifully heartbreaking music :)

  • since when did mr. bean sing bass?

  • @jrhfstlr212 I think he's doing the bass in O Holy Night too

  • @bla7091 And "Goodnight My Angel" :D

  • @jrhfstlr212 you need glasses and time to see the person, not phisical. I think your person ARE Mr Bean, silly. Good luck in your life, you'll need it

  • @sfyish1 he's joking, asswad.

  • @jrhfstlr212 aha!! i was thinking the same thing. hes freaking beast!!!

  • @jrhfstlr212 I thought about Rowan too!

  • @jrhfstlr212 HAHAHAHA!!! LOVE Mr. Bean

  • @jrhfstlr212 He's been doing it for about as long as John Cleese.

  • they're really good, i love it. however, since when does mister bean sing bass?

  • sorry for the language and don't bother replying to this comment... no one gives a fuck whether you have perfect pitch or not. people don't come to these videos to listen to people say they are good if you can't hear it for yourself you wouldn't be searching for them.

  • i have perfect pitch n they are all very much in tune

  • I have perfect pitch and guy that looks like Glenn Beck is possibly the greatest singer of the last 2 decades.

  • @Astromouse1122 A lot of it is actually the second countertenor

  • @Astromouse1122 which one do you say looks like glenn beck?

  • @Astromouse1122 seriously doubt it....

  • Comment removed

  • @Astromouse1122 yeah right. I know too many people who claim they have perfect pitch and musical idiot at same time. Having perfect pitch is as good as riding bicycle period, and nothing do with your comment to the King's Singers.

  • Yeah, i have perfect pitch, too. And these guys are off more than on. :/ Sorry to tell you all.

  • @darkmaste81 youre dumb and I would love to hear what you think perfect pitch is considered

  • @Roddick213 Somebody doesn't know sarcasm when it's typed. :S But wait, I'm on Youtube. There isn't much intelligence here.

  • hey look at me! I have perfect pitch too! and of course, you can trust what I say because who would lie on the internet?

    /sarcasm

  • @christianrockr08 these dumbass perfect pitch comments are getting old and Im glad to see someone else who agrees with me. no one cares if they do or not
