Nobody wants to hearing a child screaming, throwing a tantrum, and carrying on when they are out at a restaurant spending their hard-earned money to eat there! We go out to relax and enjoy a good dinner, not to listen to someone's child who cannot be controlled in public.
That story I can relate to - I was at a relative's birthday party where the only invited guests were teens/kids. I eyed a kid screaming and grabbing food, and I saw the parent spanking and scolding him. I tried my hardest not to stare, but it's so distracting! I don't condone spanking, but if that parent want to spank and scold him, have her take him in the bathroom or, even better, the car.
Oh, and kudos to the woman! I want to dine in peace!
If you think that's bad, listen to this: I was at Old Navy, trying on outfits when a mother brings her 2-year-old son in the changing room with her. The kid started to bang on the doors of stalls next to me singing the Batman theme song very loudly. He also tried to look underneath the stall I was in, and did his mother do anything about it? No! When I came out of the stall, he jumped at me and roared. It was the most annoying thing ever! Talk about very bad parenting.
Thank god for this restaurant owner..parents need to keep their kids in check..I am a single man by choice, i dont need to hear your screaming brat..sorry
Once again let me say that this woman who entered the restaurant didn't eat there. She was just walking by the place, saw the sign and decided to confront the owner about it. Her child wasn't even with her. She came into the restaurant not to eat but to cause a disturbance to others who were eating.
If this woman is offended, all she has to do is not spend her money at that place. Spend money at a place that will welcome them, that is their right. Why would she want to spend money at a place that doesn't welcome them.
All children should be banned from all nice restaurants. Bring them to Chucky Cheese or some other kids eatery or get take out. Not only are children often noisy, but they are messy too. Workers hate cleaning up after another persons' rugrats and having to deal with them.
@MsRobWood if they dont like cleaning up after people, especailly kids, then they are in the wrong occupation, so i guess they should ban adults who are mentally challeneged who make noise and messes too also. is that right?
The owner of a business should have the right to ban all kids who infringe on other people's enjoyment from restaurants. I would even go as far to say that no level of government has the right to regulate who an owner allows or refuses regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, etc. SOME portions of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 are unconstitutional and therefore should be repealed.
I think you missed the point of what I was trying to say. The implication which I apparently failed to make was it seemed she could have done better to make a sign which included "anyone causing a disturbance" regardless of age. Havent you ever seen couples fight in a restuarant?
Don't be offended... but after watching the video I have to wonder: Where do you live that you find this to be a "nicer restaurant". I mean seriously look at the place.
What is considered "screaming" and who makes that determination? I agree that kids should have manners but they ARE kids and sometimes you can only control so much. If it was my kid I would handle it but I think the restaurant should also be sensitive to the special needs situations. After all, they are paying customers.
Sorry put it is a private business and they can put up a sign saying no screaming kids just as they can say no shirt, no shoes, no service or no one under age 21. There are plenty of other restaurants that cater to kids the mother can take her son to.
When did ppl get the notion that children were uncontrollable, emotional, explosive bombs that adults have to live at the mercy of? I NEVER acted like that. Never dreamt it. The problem is selfish asses raising the future selfish asses of the world. I doubt very seriously the restaurant is refering to anyone with a mental disorder.
There are places like Hometown buffet that promo families, here in San Diego I donot know if that have dining like this back east? I know when we used to drink from straw we made noes when our straws that made swishing noes our parents stopped us and janked us right then and there because it was rude.and put us to bed early.we never did it againe,go to where kids are welcome, save the owners of telling you to leave no one well feel shamefull. That well save a lot of time.
Seriously!! Who in their RIGHT MIND would take this add personally?????.....All it clearly states is that screaming kids would not be tolerated...says nothing about disabled, autistic, blonde hair, black hair, boys, girls.........I think anyone who takes this to the next level just need not eat there if they are that offended by the sign.....simple as that..I have kids and I think its funny. My kids are brats...Am I offended Hell no...makes me look forward to eating there w/out em!!!!! move on
@Randomstuff171 United States of the Offended. Everyone is looking for a reason to be offended so they can sue. I think that anyone with common sense can tell the difference between a child with mental disabilities and a kid that has no parental guidance. Thank you for having the guts to say it.
I was born with health issues and some minor disabilities, but my parents never let that be an excuse for me to act like a selfish brat. Hell, I've even gotten punished for doing dumb shit.
So why should some autistic kid be cuddled like some sick pet?
@Jephael Thank you Jephael. You just nailed it. SELFISH that is exactly what the problem is. I dont mean the austic kid. He may not be able to help it but the parents who the restaurant owner was most likely talking about had no mental or physical problems at all. I NEVER acted like that and neither did my son.
I'm a single mom with 3 kids, I will not tolerate them misbehaving in the restaurant. My kids are VERY well behaved when we go out, I usually get compliments about how well behaved my children are. I get very irritated with parents that can't control their kids. Personally, I think its because parents are AFRAID to discipline their children. Kids misbehave? They get disciplined, end of story.
I love this!! I had three children who were not allowed to act up in public!! Parents who are offended by this need to grow up !! Someone will always try to take something like this OUT OF Context. America Get some manners or stay home I didnt work this hard to pay for a nice meal to have it ruined by a screaming KID The word of the day is RESEPECT
Quoted from the local Wilmington Newspaper "Armes explained that if a child is misbehaving and being loud, she won't ask the family to leave permanently. She just wants them to take the kid outside or to the bathroom until he or she calms down."
@Dano853 Where do you ppl live that you have adults scream regularly in restaurants? I have seen two ppl write this. I have been to bars where ppl were loud and annoying, but never a restaurant. So no adults, no kids, no screaming period. It is eating time not play. This is a nicer restaurant.
Maybe there's an underlying current here that has absolutely nothing to do with the sign at all. During the confrontation, Ms. Chambliss upset some of the customers by calling Ms. Armes "a grouchy old lesbian". I support this business owner 100%.
Has anyone mentioned the fact that this "Kelly Chambliss" wasn't even dining or even have her child with her when she confronted Brenda Armes? And that she was just passing by and proceeded into Ms. Armes business to confront her about the sign during the middle of the dinner rush?
The lady at 3:14 is stupid..parents who don't deal with their noisy kids responsibly will not be tolerated? does she even realize how stupid she sounds?if a parent is a good parent the kids wont be screaming at all.if a kid is unruly then the parent surely cant take control of their kid.Basically she is saying that they should be angry at the parents teaching/parenting methods which I'm sure will have people even more angry.Nice going.
This isnt American like. We are Americans, we have a right to eat where we want, with whoever we want, screaming or not... What if it was a bunch of drunk people that came and ate and they were screaming? Would she put up with them? Not only children scream. If she's gonna have a sign about screaming put "Screaming will not be tolerated"...
@missydancer45 Actually if a bunch of drunk people were causing a problem I'm sure you can just call the police an have them taken out of the establishment. Also this has nothing to do with what is american like.because peoples views of what is american is completely different to each other. If not, then we wouldn't have different parties....Hell there wouldn't even be politics...
@missydancer45 Exactly and I WANT to eat with ppl who dont scream. What if my American dream was to own a nice quiet restaurant where NO ONE screamed? What about the owner's dreams? And no you do not have the right to come onto someone's property and act however u want. American or not
take your fucking loud ass kids elsewhere bitch...we dont need to hear their shit..they may be the center of your universe but i could give a fuck less about themmm...keep them out of my life
1:45-1:52 Absolutely true. She is upset ther her child is autistic and because she feels that since she has to suffer with a screaming child, everyone else should.
3:14-3:25 is also true. Private owner of a restaurant has the right to refuse service!! Quichyerbitchin and get over it-take your screaming kids to Chucky Cheese or anywhere else unruly kids are welcome. Don't spoil everyone else's nice dinner. No, i'm not against autism...i've had friends whos kids were autistic-no problems
lmao, wow, the only words that need to be understood are PRIVATELY OWNED and DISCRIMINATION go read a fucking dictionary fucking retards are as retarded as your autistic kids
This mother needs to wake up; this in no way discriminates against children with disabilities. The sign doesn't say "Autistic Children will not be tolerated", it says "SCREAMING children will not be tolerated". Any screaming child, disabled or not, bothers people, who have a right to enjoy a peaceful meal. I myself have often been in a movie theater, and some child is shrieking his head off. Eventually, I'm thinking "Either shut that child up or get him out of here!" I side with the owner.
Thanks for replying back to my comment. I still have to disagree with what the owner did. The comment about the woman not being able to cope with what Mother Nature or God has dealt her with this autistic child was a horrible, heartless thing to say, and that alone crossed a very clear line of respectfulness. I've been to this place, and I'll live if I don't get to go back. The sign should've said "Any disruptions to patrons dining here will not be tolerated". I
Thank you for replying calmly and respectively, and not blowing up like some people do. I agree that the owner's comments about the autistic child crossed the line, but I still support taking screaming children out of the restaurant if they can't be controlled. Of course, anyone making a scene, regardless of age, should be removed, so perhaps the sign could be reworded somewhat... :)
And thank you also for being polite as well. We'll have to agree to disagree on some points of this. For the most part, I think we agree the wording of the sign sparked the controversy in the first place. Why can't everybody get along?
@Aeiousjk its called ignorance, no understanding. its the parents though, when a child isnt taught obedience, anything wild is out of control. i have a 2 year old, and he doesnt throw tantrums. i can take him in ANY resturant, and he sits and eats...point blank, its the adults. not the childrens faults.
First of all ....this is not a fancy pants restaurant. And for all the comments with no sensitivity what so ever to Families of autistic children. Hopefully someday you dont have to deal with it.
I have been to places many times with screaming kids. I just fade them out.
It's her restaurant, she makes the rules. If the mother has a problem with that, then go somewhere else. There are probably 500 different restaurants within 20 miles.
I'm really suprised that the response to this is so positive. I completely advocate taking your child outside if they are disturbing others, that's just plain common sense. However, the lady that posted the sign handled this situation poorly, especially with the comment she made on the autistic child. Come on people! Be thankful for your children, and discipline them when they need it. That way cranky restaurant owners can keep their thoughts to themselves.
I agree that the restaurant owner chose her words very poorly. Even so, I still agree with removing screaming children from restaurants. Places like movie theaters and churches already either have this policy or encourage it, so why not restaurants?
@JMDub89 beacause restaurants dont have a "silence please" sign....or prayer sessions!!!! If thats the case then nobody should be talking in the damn restaurant!
We're not talking about talking... we're talking about screaming. Screaming children are loud, annoying, and disturb others who just want to have a nice time (speaking from experience). Talking in a restaurant is usually quiet and does not bother anyone, but a child shreiking his head off does. If a parent has a screaming child, they should take them out and be respectful to the people who are trying to have a pleasant evening.
Whether the sign says "Parents who don't deal responsibly with their screaming children will not be tolerated" or " screaming children will not be tolerated" does not make much of a difference. Nobody goes out to eat, with a hope that a screaming child will grace them with their presence... Just my thought. I am sure the owner is not some evil woman, who wants to ban this "ridiculous" lady's child from eating there. Just ridiculous!
I don't like Wendy Murphy too much and have disagreed with her in the past, but here she makes a good point. If you child can't sit and behave in a sit-down restaurant, go to Burger King or Mickey D's where they have a play area or kids are expected to run around and scream their little heads off. When I go out to eat, I don't wanna hear someone else's kid from the other side of the room screaming and whining. My parents wouldn't tolerate it and neither would I with my son.
Should a person with a screaming child leave ,yes(it good manners), should they forced to , no, unless they are putting other guess in health crisis. It was never stated if she is blocking people with children from going into the restaurant . What does she actually do? Call the cops, and make more of a scene for her other guess to witness...
Give me a break!! This woman has got to get a life! People don't want to listen to screaming children and why should they. It is only polite that people get up and leave when their child is going off. This is not talking about a kid that falls down and gets hurt, this is about manners!!
PUHLEEEZE LADY!!!! If your child can't handle dining out ~ then subjecting him/her to it, is setting him up for failure. For WHAT?? Your own selfish reasons?? NO! Autism does not give you the right to allow your child to be disruptive, PERIOD! Yes, I AM a parent of a child with Autism...........
@jacquih1126 Autistic individuals, or ones with Tourets Syndrome, or Epilepsy are not able to control what their bodies do! Many who have these disablities wish that they could! If a four year old child has a seizure in that diner and screams during it are you going to kick him/her out? No! If you have a child with Autism and you chose not to take him or her to public places that is YOUR choice but that mother deserves the same choice to take him to public facilities if she so choses!
@JAMichaelsDesigner Autism does NOT equate to Tourette's syndrome or Epilepsy, in any way shape or form. Autism is a social-communication disorder and it a spectrum disorder, so one child with autism doesn't always look like another. If your child is unable to handle social environments such as dining out, than putting him in that situation, only sets him up for failure. A child with a seizure disorder, who seizes in a restaurant is not the same thing as a child screaming in frustration.
@JAMichaelsDesigner If the child is having a seizure as you say then then an ambulance should be called. If the child is just out of control then you can ask the parent to please calm their kid down.So what if the child can't control what they are doing, the parent controls the child an so should have the responsibilty to take the child away.especially from an establishment that is clearly not meant for "screaming' and acting "unruly".
Then how about this.... don't go to the restaurant. Tell your friends. Meanwhile I'll be enjoying a great dinner.

What happened to we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone? It says Children not Insert your child here.

Yes, I AM a parent of a child with Autism...........
jacquih1126 1 year ago 22
@jacquih1126 Autistic individuals, or ones with Tourets Syndrome, or Epilepsy are not able to control what their bodies do! Many who have these disablities wish that they could! If a four year old child has a seizure in that diner and screams during it are you going to kick him/her out? No! If you have a child with Autism and you chose not to take him or her to public places that is YOUR choice but that mother deserves the same choice to take him to public facilities if she so choses!
JAMichaelsDesigner 1 year ago
@JAMichaelsDesigner Autism does NOT equate to Tourette's syndrome or Epilepsy, in any way shape or form. Autism is a social-communication disorder and it a spectrum disorder, so one child with autism doesn't always look like another. If your child is unable to handle social environments such as dining out, than putting him in that situation, only sets him up for failure. A child with a seizure disorder, who seizes in a restaurant is not the same thing as a child screaming in frustration.
jacquih1126 1 year ago 2
@JAMichaelsDesigner If the child is having a seizure as you say then then an ambulance should be called. If the child is just out of control then you can ask the parent to please calm their kid down.So what if the child can't control what they are doing, the parent controls the child an so should have the responsibilty to take the child away.especially from an establishment that is clearly not meant for "screaming' and acting "unruly".
