My uncle was not in the 173rd Airborne, but he did die in Vietnam. Obviously, I've never met him, but I wish I could have. I hope that he was the first to greet my mother in Heaven last year, their reunion was long overdue. Thank you to my uncle Richard and all the others who spent time in the jungle.

I'm in Afghanistan right now. I'm with the 10th Mountain Combat Aviation Brigade. Luckily we haven't lost anyone, but I've had to do several hero missions. It's all i can do to not cry as we salute one last time as the soldier we have flown to BAF is taken out of my aircraft. I'm British but living in the US. Thank you to all that serve. I visited DC recently. So many names on the Vietnam memorial. So many brave soldiers gave their lives for our continued way of life. I just don't have the words to say thank you enough.

I lost an uncle in vietnam he was a proud marine i an his younger brithe also my uncle was also a marine i nw have a cousin in the marines fighting for are freedome. I myself am debating on joining the marines or army. I cry every time I hear/see this. I'm in my highschool's ROTC and know what our soldiers have done and gone through. Hell, they all deserve medals for fighting for us. My great great grandpa and his two brothers where both in the marines during WWII, four of my great uncles where in Vietnam all marines, my cousin was in Iraq he was a marine and now I am 15 and awaiting the day that I can follow there foot steps and serve my country in the united states marines.

I heard a story from a choir director at my college, and he said that after one of their concerts this year, after having performed their traditional patriotic medley, a man approached him and told him that he was a soldier in Vietnam and that night was the first night anyone had ever thanked him for his service. To think so many men fought and died for this country and people wont even thank them breaks my heart. My brother is a soldier and I thank him every chance I get!!

It's not our place to judge their death warrants, but I would caution all who hold that war is the fault of the soldier. These men are taught as soon as they enter basic to follow orders to the letter. They MUST do that in order to do their duty as protectors of all those who THANK them, and all those who don't. Our soldiers fight for you whether you want it or not, and I am glad they do.

I'm in Afghanistan right now. I'm with the 10th Mountain Combat Aviation Brigade. Luckily we haven't lost anyone, but I've had to do several hero missions. It's all i can do to not cry as we salute one last time as the soldier we have flown to BAF is taken out of my aircraft. To all those that get on my aircraft, just know that I'm always looking out for yall on the ground.

My dad serves in the Navy, and he has been to 2 wars. He has had knee surgery, cancer, both elbows broken, not from war, in recent years. This song reminds me of me and him, since it's about my birthday at the same time. It's an honor to feel like I'm actually being recognized, even though people don't really know me for who I am inside.This song is my head every day of the year.
