Oklahoma was a #1 seed in this game, and we beat them. I agree KU struggles MIGHTILY as a #1 seed but...a lot of #1 seeds get upset. Last year tOSU/PITT/Duke/Kansas...all knocked out in the sweet 16 besides Kansas in the Elite 8 with VCU.
The only final four with all #1 seeds EVER was 2008. UNC/KU/UCLA/Memphis (vacated :P) and Kansas blew through UNC early, UNC came back, KU answered. Then the title game...one of the best EVER.
But Kansas has to be the most #1seeded team knocked out the most.
I think the Jayhawks should just decline the top seeds. With the exception of 2008, they always get upset as the top seed. 1990, 1992, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2010, 2011. It's always an upset. They seem to do better when they sneak up as a low seed because they're always under the radar.
@6891man You seem to forget that I said with the exception of 2008, they always seem to lose as the top seed. Read and understand the entire comment before saying that I make hasty generalizations.
People saying that KU didn't deserve to win are dumb as shit...the best team at the time deserves to win regardless of the record. That is why the tourney is so great....KU had the best player and best coach in the country, that is why they pulled it off!
That's an unusual observation. Newton was 6-for-6, Pritchard 6-for-7, Piper 4-for-6, Normore 3-for-3, Harris 1-for-1. All of that in addition to Manning's 31 points and 18 rebounds. Who did deserve to win it, Oklahoma?
That's just a troll crying over 21 year old spilled milk. It's not as remembered...but in many ways, this game was just as remarkable as Villanova's upset over Georgetown in '85. That Oklahoma team was loaded and many people didn't think Kansas would got more than one round
KANSAS came to play that night, Larry Brown outcoached Billy Tubbs that night. I remember when the clock ran out, an assistant on the kansas bench was kinda doing the cabbage patch which Oklahoma did after every win in the tournament. That OKLAHOMA team was such joy to watch. College basketball was at its best back then.

@jbobbster You forget that we won the 2008 title as the #1 seed in the Midwest. Do your research before making hasty generalizations.

The guy doing the cabbage patch was student manager Bill Pope who is currently an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons.
