Did you ever test if the external video out works on this laptop using OS X? I also have an Elitebook 8740w running 10.7.1 but am unable to use either the VGA or displayport connections for a 2nd monitor, they both work fine under windows7. I am glad to revert to a previous version of OSX if you have had some success with it. If you have any tips for getting these external ports to work than PLEASE let me know
