For me the M-16 for the U.S like the gladius for the romans legendary and classic. But better weaponds will be invented and used and the M-16 will not be used but will always never be forgoten.

yes because the M16 have to have a forvard assist - does the AK need that?? NO because its a better gun

The m16 need to have 3 round burst, because its not reliable - the ak funktions in mud.

one other thing- the gun is NOT a grenade launcher- it is the m203 which is the launcher.

the russian 5.45x39 tumbles 3 times more than the 5.56

@rammsteinlover1337 The ak47 don't need a forward assist because it already has has on in the form of an exposed charging handle that is part of the bolt carrier itself. If it did fail to lock up completely all you would have to do is smack the handle forward to "assist" it forward. The AR15's charging handle is not part of the bolt carrier and that is the reason for the forward assist. The FA is not something that has to be used all the time on an AR15 anyway so its really not a factor.

@rammsteinlover1337 You weren't aware that the AK-47 DOES have a forward assist, eh? Apparently, you are also unaware that the AR-16/M-16 can fire 5.45x39, 7.62x39, or a number of other calibers, so any criticism of 5.56x45 has nothing to do with the weapon. The AR is light, accurate, reliable, and versatile. The AK is cheap. Looks like they both have their advantages.

@drewdane40 A lot of AR15's are not so great in 7.62x39. Some can have problems. Versatile to a point. No soldier is going to carry two uppers receivers in combat.

@MetalHeadMassacre The cartridge the 5.56x45 is used for varmint hunting...there is no doubting it is an accurate round out to several hundred feet.

@anteracmacash Agreed. It would be stupid to use it for such purposes. The effective range is no more than 700-800 yards, and even if you add a longer barrel, you're still left with the 5.56mm which is pretty much useless as a sniper round.. And the way they say it can be used as a grenade launcher: bullshit! The M203 grenade launcher is not a part of the M16, it's an add-on. It could have been designed to be added to any other rifle!

The M16 is not that versatile when you compare it to the HK system because it has been adapted for every type of bullet-firing weapon there is. There are SMG (MP5), Pistols (P9), GPMG (HK-21E, HK 11), AR (G3A3, HK33), Sniper (PSG-1), and if you really want, you can even order an HK that uses the full size 12.7mm/99mm found in the Browning M2. So far as I know, no one has dared try to make an M16 that can fire the .50cal. HK weapons are generally cheaper to make too.

@esh325 I am not talking about changing an individual gun's caliber. I am talking about the gun mechanism. The basic mechanism is the same in all the guns I listed. The idea is that if you train on any H&K gun, you can strip down any other H&K because they are the same basic mechanism. Can't deny that it is cool that when you learn to strip an MP5, you are learning to strip the HK21E GPMG and G3A3 rifle at the same time.

@shooterman13 its an excellent rifle , main problem was the soldier using the rifle, remeber GI s stationed in germany in 1974, they could field strip their rifle but not put it together

@shooterman13 m16 is an excellent rifle just love mine,the main problem were the sodiers, not the rifle itself.I remember GI`s I met in Germany in 1974 during a manoeuvre, some of them vietnam vets, everyone of them was capable of fieldstripping the rifle but how to clean it proberly or even put it together, no one new it
