Libertarian type Republicans would consider drawing a line in the sand as putting country first.  If they fundamentally believe that this will only lead to more problems in future -- the same way the Beare Sterns bailout did not prevent the current catastrophe -- then why would someone feel they are putting party first? For them, their party encapsulates their beliefs on how best to govern the country.
