  • The pilot decided to go around because the sound it too awesome! Again, Again!

  • And then they scrapped it. Why?

  • Why did the pilot dicide to go around???

  • Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Very Nice.

  • how do u hold the cam so steady? is it like a shoulder tripod?

  • @parim31 The answer to this question is provided in the video description

  • @parim31 I use my iPhone and press hard against the window

  • What are those little fins that open up at max thrust?

  • @mohammeddavis There supplementary air inlets that increase airflow to the engine, and thereby increase maximum thrust. Things of beauty those old JT3-D engines ! I could listen to them all day !

  • @mohammeddavis Those are spring loaded "blocker doors" that open automatically when the pressure inside the intake gets to a predetermined setting. It allows for greater air flow into the inlet at high thrust demands.

  • @XBoeingCapt Yeah those engines puur! I fix CRJ-700's and the CF-34's really sing when you pop the TR's during a high N2 run!

  • omg I love this video!!! I LOVE THE 720!!!!! old airliners <3

  • FANTASTIC SOUND!! 707 FOREVER!!

  • Oh that brings back so many memories of flying in the 70's and 80's. I really loved flying on 707's.

  • guess what,if it is not Boeing ,i am not going!

  • Waffles and sausages.... How's that for a lead in? This video takes me right back to being an 11 year old boy. My dad was in the military. It was 1966 and we flew from Frankfurt to Dover AFB.

I was so excited the night before that I couldn't even sleep. And somewhere over the Atlantic, the stewardess served us waffles and sausages. I'll never forget looking out as wing and engines bounced in the mild turbulence while eating. To me it was an impossibility; it was God patting me on the head.

  • Aww :)

  • Thats my plane on my trip to mallorca several years ago.

  • wowww nice sound

  • I would hate that situation.

  • I would have loved to experience that as a passenger: So surprising!

  • Ahh... the sound of the 720... music to the ears. : )

  • wow.. was watching whle bunch of airbus vids. saw this one boeing one. and u could just notice quality instantly..

so whats the point of touch and go flights?

  • That sound is music to my ears !

  • if its not a boeing. im not going!

  • a true and powerful aircraft ever built. you know what would be a great idea, is that if Boeing would bring back those 707's and refit them with newer cockpits and a good FMC and there you go. a flyable plane.

  • 707 spool up noize = boner

  • Sounds like our old vacuum cleaner.

  • @Philios2Glory1 LMAO

mine still sounds like this.. well not exactly liek this cuz this one sounds better.

  • It sounds as if there's extra testosterone in the fuel.

  • Why do the engine cowlings open at 0:48? They are just behind the fan

  • Those are inlet vanes that increase the airflow and prevent stalling of the fan blades. the vanes are springloaded in close position and open because of the low pressure created by the fanblades.

  • @matatan69 Ok thanks!

  • cool!!!!!!!

  • Awsome! Check out my vids!

  • Music to my ears....JT4's?

  • to be honest it looks a bit like a 707

  • it is

  • it is a 707, it's called 707-720

  • What do those flaps on the engine do at full power? Are they for bypass thrust?

  • Those flaps are called auxiliary intake doors. They allow the engine to suck in more air at high power settings.

  • wonderfull sounds in this touch and go !!

  • I want one of these for christmas :)

  • yeah keep dreamin

  • great

  • Old School!! Now that's the sound I remember as a young boy!

  • Loved it!

  • this is and will be my favorite airplane

  • beautiful sound man !

  • I was curious if the 727 had these engines? I always thought the 727's had the Pratt & Whitney JT3"s. They sound very similar to me. I love the 72's and miss them as well as the 707's and 720's.

  • 727 was certified with JT-8D engines

  • where I live just north of seattle I see some E-3s flying out of boeing field and al of the planes coming out of paine field it's sweet

  • go boeing! :) airbus don't have the history like boeing does :) great video!

  • My neighbors don't like me anymore! Who cares!!!

  • Awesome sound !

  • There's a little different between Boeing 707 and 720....

Boeing 707 has smaller engines than 720, and the 720 engines are more beautiful and has more beautiful voice....

I love the old fashioned engine sound... :)

  • The engines are the same on both models, take a look at the #1 engine pod, it has a bulge on in,the engines cudnt run an EBU system without a huge loss of thrust, instead boeing used turbocompressors in the engines, except the #1 engine, thts y its different. Your prob confusin it with the 720B, which used turbofan engines. And that old fashion sound is low bypass jet engine noise.

  • marry the noise then

  • There's a video of crash test with a 720b. I went on one of these with Air Malta in 1987...my 1st ever flight. Awesome plane. Shame there arem't any kept in museums for people to see.

  • There Is two 707's on display for the public to see, One is in the Ronald Ragan Museum in Ca. Its AF-1 that was used up to the 1st Pres Bush, and the other is at Wright Patterson AFB , Ohio, Its the back up AF-1 that was used to carry JFK's body out of Dallas.

  • There is also one at The Museum of Flight in SEA.

  • no that a 707

  • that's a 707-720

  • I know

  • wow FANTASTIC SOUND!

  • listen at 00:50

  • Great sound! Gotta love the oldies!

  • yep old boeings and otherp lanes are the best! lol

  • Beautiful sound! My favorite though is the L-1011. Gotta love that RB-211 moo!

  • i love that jet

  • I love that sound it was what airline?!?! greetings from Peru !!! xD

  • You are correct. Sad but true, this Boeing 720b was unceromoniously sliced and diced by heavy machines until it was nothing but a couple piles of aluminum and other components. I had hoped that it would have been saved as a part of history, but nope, time marches on and forgets the past. RIP 720b.

  • @enigma800 Problem is, that despite America's penchant for innovation, America doesn't respect its own history as much as it should: everything is always made to boil down to cost. There should be a handful of passenger-configured DC-8s, 707s, 720s and even Convair jets not only preserved, but flying at major airshows!! They should be taking passengers of today's generation and future generations for flights to see what it was like. There are lots of old propliners, but no preserved flying jets.

  • I'd like to have one of those Pratt & Whitney JT3D's in my garage. Or even better my bed, but the wifey probably wouldn't go for that.

  • I think a video may exist of this aircraft being scrapped =(

  • The Pilot was possibly doing the Touch,to display the aircraft before it was scrapped, or during testing as this 720 was used as a testbed for Honeywell for turbine research.

The other reason was maybe for crew training.

Apologies for my last post which was sent before checking the spelling!

  • The last time I heard the sound of JT3's was when I was on a 720 was on the 4th of January 1980! operated by Monarch Airlines here in the UK.

Great memories. This plane in the video, was featured in Airways Magazine Oct 08 issue, being scrapped in Phoenix Harbor June 21s a sad end bu a good run.

  • haha i really want to

  • Crank up the VOLUME!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome sound!

  • What an awesome sound, love that slight buzz sound mixed with the turbine sound such engines give at full power. I hope she's kept for preservation, pity some large combined syndicate couldn't keep for flying, so many people would pay to fly on her now, be enough to fill her each flight incl coporate charters! A shame the Pratt & Whitney one is incredibly being scrapped in this day and age, when such a big firm could at least have her restored as an eyecatching 'gate guardion' at their plant.

  • Low bypass rate rules!

  • i love the sound of those engines!

  • lets say if a plane gets in the way of the runway, and if to abort the crash the plane that landed must go back up

    touch n go

  • what is touch and go? i mean i know its wen the plane lands then takes off right away but why is it done?

  • It is done primarily to save time. It allows you to practice landing without having to stop, taxi back, and then take off again. In a plane such as this where it costs thousands of dollars to fly per hour, that can be a big savings.

  • Those engines sound good!

Replacing her with a 757 isn't that bad!

One day the 757 will become just as famous & loved as the 707!

  • I remember when Pan Am had these and I flew to Europe. What a blast that was. Push back in the seat takoff for sure.

  • By the way, I recently read that this plane is for sale. Its time as an engine testbed is growing to a close and this famous 720 will be replaced by a 757. What a great airplane to own!

  • amazing video. I dont understand why the reverse thrusters opened just before it took off again and remained open.

  • They are not thrust reversers. These are very old engines... what you observed are not thrust reversers, but additional air intakes.

  • Could I ask you what these intakes are for?

  • The rings of small inlets were to aid the air flow on many early turbofan engines. They were spring loaded, and improved the efficiency by opening automatically at higher power settings. They also helped prevent turbine stalls, common in early TF engines. They featured on 707/720/737/747s, although as engines were changed to more efficient models, most aircraft were upgraded, and except for the 707s, they had all but disappeared by the 1980s

  • This plane was retired recently, after 47 years in service (20 years with Honeywell). It's being replaced by a Boeing 757. Fortunately, they plan to put it on display in a museum!

  • A380 sounds Much btter

  • nO duh this airplane is heka old11111

  • Show some respect for your elders.

  • NOT! It doesn't have the harmonics this one does.

  • What do you expect for good old planes?

  • Best sound available for my ears!

I love the 707 and 720 sooooooooo much!

  • wow! at 00:51 the turbines are virtally at idle.. the aircraft is on the ground... by 00:59, just 8 seconds later, this beast tears off the runway back in to the sky. Gas turbine power at its best!

  • to surdo

  • I love that sound!

  • thats the reason why a always try to choose the window sit when i travel on plane.its very funny to see the outside and the engines!

  • finaly a 720 vidwithout sound track

  • awesome sound ;)

  • This is awesome footage! Thanks so much for sharing it. I love the 720 and the 707!

  • aborted landing...

  • i loooove those engines. smooth landing as well

  • sweeeeeeeet

  • I did my primary flight training out at IWA... recognized that landscape as soon as the video started. You really get to see a lot of cool planes flying out there at Willie.

  • crap!

  • Great job by Honeywell... Always do the best..

  • omfg

  • Awesome!

  • wow! amazing sound!!!

  • Unbelievable! Very rare footage, thank you!

  • Wow! That sounds like music!! Thank you very much indeed for sharing this masterpiece!

  • clean landing

  • beautiful view
