Great video. I felt like I was there with you guys looking around. It's so sad that they are going to tear some of those big places down. I guess if there isn't the money to fix them, they have no alternative but to level them.
A lot of great shots of grass, the back of that lady's sweater, weeds and trees, but not much else. Probably only 30 seconds of this video total is actually of the hospital.
@teseract It was tough getting footage as we went in guerrilla-style without a real plan. I'm glad I got anything at all. I have more footage actually inside the hospital that I'm still editing.
@heelfan1234 I would not want to destroy anything inside. I love the old architecture and it inspires me greatly, so I'd rather see that preserved. Pretty much everything of value has already been taken or smashed, unfortunately.
@Lurdanjo Good answer. The admin block is architecturally interesting and that could be preserved. There are many other buildings of little merit though. New wave urbex smashcrews would research this and allow the good parts to be spared. I feel we have achieved this well in the UK on various asylum sites.
A lot of damage can be done by block heaving. This where a large block is heaved though a wall, a floor, or a door by two or three members of the smahscrew. We call this "bloickbusters".
@heelfan1234 I gotcha. The administration building is currently being prepared for extensive renovation, while they plan to tear everything else down, which I still think is tragic. There's a lot of fascinating history and design in these buildings that have inspired me, and to see it go will be a very sad day.
@heelfan1234 smash stuff up ?????????, wtf , I was taught not to touch anything that didnt belong to me , ... you must be of the younger generation , nothing is sacred to yall, .. . karma is a mean bitch , , you will see ,
@MurphySecurity Well, of course you have! Must be fun to be on Murphy Security. Such a shame how the buildings were left to crumble, huh? I really think that folks just taking photographs and video footage should be allowed in, but they constantly deny us at the Redevelopment Agency. What do they have to hide, what do they have against being able to get some more money?
i broke into the building near the commuter lot a couple times and a word to the wise... enter with extreme caution theres stairways and floors rotted out booby traps set by guards in the underground tunnels and homeless people occasionally other than that its a blast and very creepy while approaching the building a deer jumped out of a bush and i had to check my pants.heard unexplained noises and just some crazy old stuff be prepared to dodge security
@ValeVancouver The property is on the town line between Norwich and Preston on Route 12/2, just across the river from Mohegan Sun, seven miles away from Foxwoods.
Purchasing the property also inherits back taxes and fees, so unless you're a millionaire, you're unlucky to get much.
It's only illegal if you get caught or if you steal anything. Looking isn't a crime. Exploring isn't a crime. Let the people in if they want a piece of history at their own risk, let them. Next time you go in there drop me a line, I'll go with you readily.
@ViktorDragmire I'd love to go again someday soon, though it's pretty difficult now with the six foot wire fence surrounding the area and video surveillance (though it's possible that they're only dummy cameras, knowing personally how cheap the Redevelopment Agency is).
If there's a way to get into one of the buildings other than the theater building or administration building without attracting attention, I'll do it, and certainly wouldn't mind another experienced explorer with me.
Theres no way i'd go in that place by myself especially at night man this place is creepy but I think somebody should fix the place up I hate when these old buildings are demolished when they could remodel it
@pearldrumsarecool Indeed. I actually went to the Preston town hall meeting to try to appeal to them to save more of the buildings or at least give me permission to photograph the outsides, but they said that they'd have to let EVERYONE do it if they let me. Bah. The architecture and layout is so fascinating that it BEGS to be explored!
@MrUndertaker420 I don't know which of my comments you were trying to respond to. There IS a fence up on the property now, which prevents me from exploring further, unless of course anyone can confirm a better way to get around or over it without injury or detection.
@XxabsentlifexX Unfortunately it's pretty hard to get on there to explore anymore, because I've heard they put up an electric fence to keep people out! I'm going to find out for certain tomorrow...
I don't know how you all have the guts to go into these places. The pictures really creep me out. I can't imagine going in there. That guy @ your favorite site said that he actually sleep in the one in Germany. Creepy........I'm sure I'd see a ghost for sure.. :-0
It blows my mind that our govt used to care enough to actually spend money on people who were mentally ill and had no place to go. It's too bad there won't be any places for all the children with autism to go someday. I hope they will at least save the main buildings. Thanks for posting this. Check out this website. This person has done a wonderful job in photographing old buildings including this one. Go to opacity dot us /locations/
@bigelvis1485 That's actually one of my favorite sites for old abandoned buildings, and it's where I learned enough about this property to really get interested in exploring it. Now if only I can find another time to get there without security everywhere...
@gotRROD Thank you very much for the compliment! I'm trying to push my videos a bit more, especially as I get closer to creating some truly unique content, though I'm not completely sure what else I should do. I don't want to spam my channel everywhere I go, for example.
