It's funny how political speeches don't work nearly as well on the internet as they might sway a tearful crowd of housewives and homeless people in person. I wish politicians would just say how they really feel about their constituents: that they are a bunch of plebeian idiots, the mechanics of human emotions being so easily swayed by crisp white shirts and reassuring voices, and that they are their ticket to "fame" and European country clubs in a few years.

Here is how America is exceptional when compared to other industrail countries:

1. We are first when it comes to the amount of children living in poverty: 20%

2. We are first when it comes to the amount of money we spend on the military: over 630 billion dollars. China comes in a close second at around 125 billion.

3. We are first when it comes to how many citizens we put in prison: 700 thousand. Italy comes in second at 100 thousand.

4. Infant mortality rates per live birth--#1

"this is the greatest nation in the history of mankind" -how can one make a statement like this? In what way are we the greatest of all time? How can we know as much about other nations and other times as we know about our own? What about all of our problems which coexist with our strengths? Lots of people in "the history of mankind" have thought that their nation was the greatest of all time. Apparently Brownback has as unsophisticated of an outlook as they did.
