  • Note too that the voice-over announcer talks about "a uniquely Canadian television network takes to the air".

In contrast to CTV, Global, CHCH, and "A", all of which have program schedules consisting mainly of U.S. imports.

  • @altfactor That's pretty true (CBET also typically dumps out of certain US-related stuff the CBC may air as well).

  • Does anyone have a CBET Sign-OFF from the late 70's/early 80's? I remember picking those up from my home about 125 mi. from Windsor; I might like to see those.

  • From about 1:55 forward I remember always watching this in the morning before cartoons on CBC when I was a kid... Under the Umbrella Tree was always on right after, 7 AM

  • Great comment from our 11th province

  • Thanks to our sellout president Clinton and his NAFTA...

  • @chipjumper

The 51st state is Canada? F*CK OFF!

  • The video national anthem segment was just for CBET, but the painting/scenic/light map segment was used by many CBC stations, and, with Francophone narrator, on SRC as well. Both networks are usually 24h today, and this nicely done work is generally not seen on the air anymore.

  • I don't know what you mean: "It's quite fascinating in some circles to describe such a culturally diverse nation such as Canada."

Of course it's facinating, but I was talking about the image in CBET signoff that impressed me. Does it (or does it not) impress you?

  • From the 1950's to c.early 1970's RKO General owned the station, which until CBC's takeover was called CKLW-TV (a sister station to the famed 'Big 8' Top 40 radio powerhouse).

  • This is the closedown (sign-off) I always listen to when I am near Windsor, Ontario. The painting scene that starts at 1:47 is the thing I remember, but with a female voice in English, singing O Canada.

And dang it, when I compare it with the US sign-offs, I find no comparison.

The map is the thing that gets the lump in my throat...

  • I love the brunette wearing a striped shirt and overalls during the "painting" scene (for lack of a better description). Does anybody know who she is? Is she a noted artist? In any case, she's a babe!

  • Any one remember "Newsday" a local news program anchored by David Compton ?

  • Yes I remember that - he was the Channel 9 anchor in the late 70s - not sure about what happened to him. I've tried searching online but no success about finding his whereabouts.

  • The lady at 1:28, is that like the prime minister or something??

  • No, she was the governor general of Canada.

  • Fmr, G.G. Adrienne Clarkson

  • Does Canada have a strong christian communities,or is it just filled with a bunch of liberals and atheist like I heard it's famous for.

  • yes they are SORTA turning to atheist but not all and cannot reflect all Canadians, mate.

btw, you are listening to another BEST RENDERING of our national anthem... EVER!

  • I heard CBET-TV9 is except from the rules that other CBC stations must abide by, such as 50/50 of the programs must be candian. Though since Windsor is near the border,it is targeted at Detroit auidences and does not have to follow the rules.Though despite the language differences-which I find very annoying, by far Canadian media is better than U.S. media-I would have to say.

  • Not even near vintage enough to excite me. Looks fairly recent. '90s maybe? Much too recent to be all that interesting yet for me. Post one from the '70s or early '80s and ya got something neat. :)

  • This was taped sometime between 2001 and 2006, although 1:47 and onward was produced in the '90s, and possibly the national anthem sequence as well.

  • (01:12) you would never find in America.

  • Looks like some citizenship swearing-in ceremony to me... or some sort of meeting---both things you'd find in the US (the only things in the video montage I can think off off-hand not found here are the parliament session footage, what looks like people celebrating Canada Day, and, far as I know, the military officials carrying both US and Canadian flags at a riverfront plaza/park...).

  • @flamebird30 Maybe the U.S. and Canadian flags sequence was edited-in the anthem footage specifically for CBET Windsor, since it's across the river from Detroit and that it's coverage area (and some of its viewers) are in "The States".

  • @altfactor A lot of cable systems in Michigan and Ohio do offer this station anyway.

  • @RetroToledo Sadly, not so much anymore in Ohio. Time Warner dumped it from their systems around 2009. I think Buckeye Cablesystem in Toledo is the only operator NW Ohio still offering it.

  • @eekoutasignal They do, and I can still see it if I must.

  • @altfactor That's really the big difference here (since the station is in the Detroit area technically).

  • @RickyMA1988

    Racist!!!!!!!!

  • @RickyMA1988 We would never find Somali's getting sworn in as citizens? Have you ever been to Minneapolis, MN?

  • Why is it that Canadians like to celbrate diversity, but in the U.S. its taboo.

  • i have that on tape!!!!!!!

  • It looks like that anthem, or at least the video portion was produced by CBET because the majority of those shots are local to the Windsor/Essex region.

  • Does channel 9 still do much in the way of local anything, other than news? I rarely watch, and when I do it seems to be all network.
