  • Excellent performance

  • how time you learn this piece?

  • Good interpretation!!

  • You may have posted this years ago, but I still watch your performance of one of Chopin's most brilliant pieces. Bravo! This piece reached out and grabs my heart. :')

  • you;r greet thom :)

  • WOW!! for one i would like to sayy your hands are beautiful <3 and soo prettyy veryy elegant <3 !! and that i have been learing piano for about a year, and i still havent been able to playy Chopin songs :(

You are absoultyy amazing!! haha :)

  • this is so beautiful. it brings tears to my eyes

  • tres belle performance interprétation velouté tres souple vraiment tres beau !!!!

  • very nice song and is play aolso very well i know that song already but i am watching if i have done any mistakes congratulation

  • I get goosebumps when i hear this. Wonderful!!

  • greattt

  • this is my fav piece by choplin. u made a wonderful job of it. :)

  • Your performance is taking my breath away! Especially now when Poland is experiencing such an unspeakable loss... [*][*][*]

  • @kocior1987 All the best to Poland in this moment!!

  • @thomandy Thank you so much! This melody reminds me of all the good people who died in this crash... May God shine His light on their souls!

  • Beautiful playing and video!

  • sooo prettyyyy

  • How do you use pedal on this one ??

  • Fine job! I listened all the way through, and honestly, the only way you can top this performance is if you play this on a Concert Grand. That would be my 2nd request - for you to play this on a grand. :-)

  • @cebukid70 Thanks :) Well the Audio in the new version will be better than this, since I got a new Pc with better Audio :) And I know how to adjust the settings better, but yeah, If I only had a Grand I would play it;) hehe

  • @thomandy Good and still quite reasonably priced (at least if you find a lot of use for it) way of improving audio is to purchase a usb-audio interface, such as a fasttrack pro, and a pair of condenser microphones... you get very good quality for a total of some 400€.

  • @saheltaja My new videos like the new performance of the Op 9 No 2 is a lot better because of my new pc :) It gets a lot better to record via cable rather than to use a mic on this piano since the audio is better than then pianos speakers can achieve to send :)

  • EURASIA! EURASIA! lol

  • ahhhhhh, just like my mom :D

    lol

  • the lights candels make this more romantic - (L) Chopin , his lovely , regards from Mexico

  • hey man. im trying to play this piece....right now infact. the left hands a bit of a nightmare. any advice? or just play it like a robot?

  • I think a nightmare is the best way do describe what the left hand is playing on this piece. It sounds so beautiful but its so hard play. the right hand is much, much easier. Ive been trying to play this for a few weeks now and I've only got about half of it figured out. Right now I'm doing what you said and I'm playing like a robot. lol

  • yea man iv been playing this piece since i wrote that comment. its really starting to fall into place. my muscle memory is really starting to improve with it. helps alot. the melody line is pretty simple with a few rough bits...like the turns and fast runs. but appart from that, the main melody is simple. gets harder towards the end....well not harder. just different.

    starting to notice patterns

    definately worthwhile to learn!

  • So it takes a while to learn huh? Thats encouraging. I've been getting really frustrated with it. I guess I have to just be patient and keep at it. I'm just so used to playing modern songs that are alot easier and take less time to learn. Perseverance is the name of the game.

  • yes man. iv only recently got into classical piano music and have really been trying to up the bar a bit. this piece is really quite complex. however since i have been practicing much classical music recently, i am improving vastly.

i was somewhat the same until about 6 months ago. i used to play nothing but queen and the beatles etc. this music contains alot of cheating...or i did. my left hand was improvised. now classical music is much harder! but definately worth learning. playing long?

  • dieses stück ist sehr gut gespielt

ich spiele auch piano aber du spielst es besser als ich

    dear cencerly Chris

  • I love Chopin and this is one of my favorite nocturns. Nice playing - you are very good!!

  • -_- even playing this much is hard, u know ~

if ur so good, y don't u put up a better version

piano is not abt how much the person playing feels, it's abt how good the song is when someone is playing it...u can just bang on the piano and express my anger @~@ (that can be my song too...)

i think this was close to perfect !!!

  • That was great!!

  • made my stress go away :D

  • congratulations! I've been wanting to play that music since I was young.....I just enjoy listening to it....makes a wonderful feeling

  • your amazing :D

  • Nice, pretty nice!!!

    5*

  • very good performance. the only think i would like to improve if i were you is the use of pedals - you keep them for too long most of the times.

this doesn't take any credit away, however - congratulations.

  • the exception to what I've just said... ;-)

during the final notes, you did not keep the pedal down long enough for the B flat 7 chord to last through til the finale.

But I realise that it may just be a conscious interpretation choice of yours. My interpretation is that it's the absolute pinnacle of the piece, and the longer the chord goes, the greater the tension build-up, hence the greater the relief.

  • Hi :) Thanks for the feedback!

I agree with you, I hadnt even played piano for a year yet, and at the time I had never practiced the use of pedal besides shifting grip once a bar or sometimes less.. I didnt know a lot about harmony at the time as well, but I might re-take this piece someday, and then I promise the use of pedal will be a lot different!:)

  • An amazing performance! You took me away bro!

  • Wow!!! XD I wish I could play this piece as excellent as you did.

  • so simple and amazing :]

  • Classical piano is some of the most beautiful music. This was great one day I'll learn! hehe

  • I don't like digital piano's... especially not for Chopin, but truly well played! Maginificent! Studying this piece myself right now, but I have a long way ahead!

  • Hi:) .. Yeah, I would have preferred a acoustic piano myself as well :) Someday!:) Thanks, and good luck on the piece!:)

  • it's excellent!!

  • Very good!

  • Thanks :)

  • some parts lack some "oomph" in my opionion

  • oooh. I'll give it a try when I'm ready. looks very difficult though :T

  • oh and I was wondering what level this piece may be?

  • As far as I know its a level 7/9!:)

  • abusas del pedal amigo

  • I play this too but hearing your version lets me know I still have a long way to go. Your version sounds very much like Tzvi Erez although I know you were trying to model Rubinstein, which it sounds like as well. Very professional sounding, bravo.

  • Hi :) I never heard Tzvi play it, but I like what I have heard from him :) Yeah, Rubinstein was at least my personal favorite at the time, but I tried to do what I felt was right for me :) And it has changed a little, I might do another upload with better audio some time in January I think :) .. Thanks, and let me know if you ever upload :)

  • I really had to put this performance you played so delicately in my vlog :) never get tired of listening to it.

  • Hi :) Thank you, very nice to hear:)

  • You didn't play the piano at all before 2008? In that case you are a serious talent! I play piano for over 20 years now and still try my best to get this song the way you did. Very sensitive.

  • I mean this, after a year? amazing!

  • GOD this is the only reason I ever took piano lessons, and I still haven't learned it, I hate practising :(, but yours is beautiful!!!!!:D

  • If you struggle with motivation you can try this, cause the left hand is very repetitive after a while, it seams a lot more than it really is, also the melody repeats alot, with minor changes, so start the piece(if you are good enough to play it?) and do one bar each day. Repeat it the next day, and it might stick. This might take you 15min each day, its really nothing. But the thing is, then you will be able to play it in January, if you dont do it, you will sit in January and wish you had:)

  • (if you are good anough to play it?) hehe that was awesome. Honeslty I am not really sure that I am, but you are right, I should take it slowly and consistently, thank-you so much for caring enough to reply. I will try. I promise. :D

  • Hehe, I ask cause when I first tried I was Not good enough, and I had to stop at the time:) But one don't know until one try, so I wish you good luck and let me know if you ever post a recording of it, and Ill be sure to listen:)

  • awesome thanks, but that won't happen for a loOOOOOnGGG time lol, thanks. :)

  • very moving, thank you that was beautiful!

  • Beautiful. Well done, mate.

  • 0:15 WTF ??

    Please comment and rate???

    Why??? not required

    5 Stars! hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!

  • eeey... i'm playing this song and I LOVEEEE IT!!! i wish it was easier... :) well done!

  • yeah really nice but the tempo isnt meant to be like this its mean to be played a bit faster plus the flow is kinda straight, sometimes you cut it and slow it down which is oviously nice too..over all its nice

  • Thanks :) Well I play it a little different now, but still I like the tempo, that's all about the interpretation. Listen to Rachmaninoff, he is 15sec slower. Rubinstein is pretty much the same as me, Yundi Li is 20sec faster.. But I agree about the Rubato, but I play it better now, and I think the Rubato is better as well :) Thanks for the comment!!:)

  • hehe ur welcome im playing this too but school always gets my attention. im already morethah half of it and probably posting it i followed yun di style more lively and romantic :)im worried on the last part i wanna play it on our graduation as it was requested but i have not much time for it..but i will finish it :)

  • I disagree. This piece isn't meant to be played with a rigid tempo. It's meant to be flowing, and played with feeling.

Thomandy, I think you played it absolutely perfectly.

  • the person who composed and played this one didnt performed like this, but i didnt mean to say that it should be played kinda quick if the feeliing wasnt there because chopin played this a bit faster than this with the feelings into it..that should be followed and should be the way how to play it ...if only i can say fuck all copy cat who played this differently and its such a shame on chopins behalf since its like vandalism for him to change his music work

  • How do you know what Chopin intended?? Where is the exact tempo written? Did you know that Chopin actually didn't want others to play like him? Did you know when Chopin thought students etc he didn't want to force his own style on to the students, but let them discover their own style. Did you know that Chopin liked how Liszt played his Etudes, better than he liked how himself played them?? - Seams like you don't know a lot about Chopin at all. Chopin was Pro Different interpretations!!!!

  • Haha once again your ignorance shows through. You know that composers leave little notes near the top of pieces that tell you how to play them, right?

The tempo at the top of the piece is "Andante" (look at the sheet music, moron) which means "moderately slow" or "walking pace"

Try walking to the rhythm that yundi li plays it. And then in the future, don't talk about things you don't know about.

  • pfft~ like u uploaded anything @~@

listen/watch the video if u want...

u dun hv to lecture someone else about the songs they play on the piano..

so what if it's "andante" it's his piano, his hands, his video, he can play at whatever tempo he wants :S

ur just talking crap cuz ur jobless, moron!

  • i love it!!!!

  • Good Job!

  • man i dont have piano tacher i have to do this by ear but i got this in 3 weeks payed off

  • ahh my ultimate favorite chopin piece, i never tire of it ,especially wnen played so well. thank you ever so much for allowing us to to view and listen to your concert.

  • I actually like how Yundi Li ends it in the second to last measure where he closes his eyes and slows it down. But you nailed the Rubinstein version, if u played it on a Steinway I couldn't tell the difference.

  • Hi =) Thanks. Yeah, I also like Yundi Lis version, but I the difference between Yundi Li and Rubinstein overall is that R. plays with more emotion. Feel free to disagree :)

But thanks :) Glad you liked it :)

  • I am 11 and I am at the Conservatorium and I am playing this piece...just one question: how do u put your feelings into your music..Anyone have any ideas? :)

  • Hi =) Well, its practice as well. You have to try to feel the notes, and listen carefully :) Its a good idea to Record yourself, listen to it, and try to find out where and how you want to change it. The continue to do so until you are where you want to be :)

  • hey , im 15 and i'm just having a teacher , (wish i could study conservatory):'( ,

this is just my opinion , i think u can put ur feelings into UR music by thinking of a THEME for that music , example: if u think ur music is joyful or playful : imagine some memories that u think were joyful for u, ,,

well .. thats wat i think and thats wat i do to put some feelings on my music and i also think of my inspiration.=)

  • Absolutely gorgeous! The playing and the presentation. Very charming. Bravo!

  • Tnx :))

  • Thanks :)

Well, it was able to just go straight to it before, but now you have to go to their site and search for it, but its there for free :)

  • watch out, i think this video may get popular becuase of muse

  • hehe?? :)

  • @rsmillionsguides you are right, i heard this at the end of eurasia and i wanted to learn to play it so im now listening to it over and over

  • its nice to see a fellow disciple of Andrew play one of my favorite pieces. I'm going to upload my interpretation soon! let me know what you think. ^_^

  • Can you post a tutorial for this song? Please?

  • hey bro...this is a nice piece,,,you played it nice,,,:D

be careful in playing the poco ralentando..1:31-1:35..play it slower .. and on the mini trills,,,i think u should work on that,,

ive played fur elise, to zanarkand, Waltz , Turkish march ..and now im practicing this piece,,

    i suggest , just suggest,,you to play Pathetique 2nd Movement,,its a soothing piece,,:D

  • Well, I do play this piece better now of course! But we all interpretat differently, and I wouldnt play it slower!!! :)

  • hahah,,well,,,its up to u..im not forcing u,,and youre also ryt about us pianist,, different pianists , diff. interpretations,:D...

  • Te odio, (broma) algun dia yo tocare asi, quisa en mi proxima reencarnacion.

    Hermosa pieza.

    Slaudos!

  • at about 2:41, what keys are you pressing with you right hand? for that mini-trill or whatever you call it. I press: f, d, e, d,e, f, g. I'm mostly confused about the d and e part. the first d&e i do it fast, and then regular d and e. are there supposed to be more keys involved?

  • The Eb is a turn! Its no trill there :) So its fast from Eb-F-Eb before you continue the piece! like normal!:)

  • Indeed just close your eyes and let yourself surrounded by this nice sound it has a nice feeling attached to it ... people like you really make me like chopin even more ^^

  • Aah!:) thats very nice to hear!:)

  • This is a very good performance. I have the sheet for this & read the notes while listening to your video. Chopin would be proud if he would hear this :).

  • i can tell this took lots of practice, great interpretation, although other than what i suspect of the song, this is another view, absolutely outstanding.

  • Hi :) Thanks! Glad you like the interpretation:)

I play this piece better now, but I have tried to keep the interpretation pretty much the same :) So its very nice to hear you say so:)

  • 5 stars, awesome video and amazing playing. I'm trying to play this song as well... it's a struggle!

  • Thanks:)

Yeah, might feel like a struggle in the beginning :)

But stay with it, its a real treasure to have when you manage to perfect it :) I have keep it alive, and play it a lot better atm, but I wish I had a real piano to play it on though :P hehe

  • Thank you! I loved it :-)

  • wooooooooooo, wow, absolutely amazing, I love Chopin, and particularly this one, is my favorite, and you play it with so much feeling, ... I love it, You are trully amazing, you've been blessed with a gift... Congratulations and keep improving yourself ...Greetings from Mexico.

  • I seen almost your videos and I love it : )you´ve got an incredible talent...

  • perfect as all your interpretations, would wish to play piano like you : ]

    greetings from mexico : ]

  • Hi :) Thanks!

    Greeting from Norway:)

  • Super!! Super!!! You're a great source of inspiration! I'm looking forward for new videos. Like Andrew(lypur), you have the thing of "giving", the generosity of sharing. This is beautiful. Like this incredible Chopin, beautifully played by you.

    Beautiful!

  • Hi there :) Thanks =)

    Nice to hear :)

  • Did you know that Arthur Rubinstein was born in the same city that I did? Here in Łódź (which means "boat" in Polish) there is a great philharmonic hall carrying his name.

  • No, I didnt know that :) That must Fun ha? :)

I would be proud of that :)

  • Yeah, Rubinstein was a Polish pianist of Jewish descent. I love his interpretations of Chopin's music. They both were true masters and I'm so proud Poland had such a great pianists. :)

And, btw, I love your interpretation, Thom. Haha I guess I'm saying this like 3rd time now... :D

Nice to meet you, Darek (I'm using English so that Thomas can understand it too :))

  • Yeah, Thomas has played this piece more than just well, but I'm running out of ways how to tell that, because whatever he plays it's great and he has a lot of movies. Sometimes I don't know what to write so I just rate it 5 stars without any comments.

YouTube is international so all users should use English.

  • Thanks both of you :) Im actually planing a new Op9 No2 someday.. Andrew gave me an 82on it back In January based on some things here and there :) And I feel Im on my way to playing it even better, same interpretative approach though, but with better technique I hope :)

  • Great work ! :)

I've noticed that u always have candles on you're piano :D

  • Tnx :) Well, candles only to pieces that are suited for it ;)

  • simply great, congratulations from spain;)

  • I'm probably not objective but I loved that. Lyrical.

  • That is so beautifully and sensitively played. After a busy day's work, it was just what I needed! Thank you so much! This goes straight into my Favourites....

  • Hi =) Glad you like it :)

  • very beautiful. so nostalgic*****

  • Tnx :) Nostalgic hey? :)

  • so relaxing!!!!

  • the faster this song is, the worse it sounds.

how great you play this song does not depend on the speed.

chopins creations emphasises playing music, not playing notes.

the main theme for this song is expressivo btw

  • Well said :)

  • Very beautiful music! Keep up the good work!

  • my friend is only 12 and she can play the faster version of this really really good

  • Excellent performance of this famous classic tune!

I love the music by Chopin

    Played with much expression

    Bravo!

    *****

    Lillo

  • Gosh!! i just luv ur vid!!

is ur piano a yamaha clavinova??

  • or kawai! :D

  • Hi both of you. Its a Yamaha Clavinova - CLP 240 :)

  • Beautiful! You play this piece so expressively. <3

This is one of my favorite nocturnes... I also like #1 a lot, and the love of my life is #15 in F minor. ;)

  • Thanks. Yeah, those two you mention are also very high on my favorite-list for sure! I also like #19 in E minor alot + nr 7 in C#minor. The beginning of that one is Very expressive :) I also like #20 in C#minor :))

  • Really enjoyed this a lot... beautiful.. :) great channel.. love the info and talent! Makes me think and THAT is a sign of greatness! MANY Stars!!!

  • Great job !

One of my favorite from Chopin nocturne with the 19th and 20th.

  • Just listening again. :) Yay, you make me want to learn this beautiful piece so badly! :D

I'm still stuck in a place where I've recently stopped practicing. :P Gotta work on it. =)

    This performance rocks! ^_^

  • Nice :)) Yeah, you Have to keep going on this on. You wont regret it :)

  • Awesome!!!!

    Mary

  • I think you tempo is good and the most of melody to but you pedals this make this a bit to long Good luck!

  • Yeah, I haven't been playing piano for a year yet, so to play this perfect Yet wouldn't be so easy. But thanks :)

  • wow really relaxing, sorry it took so long for me to watch it though.

  • very very clean

  • it LOOKS so easy ..

  • It is pretty easy actually.

  • Wow, I really love this song!!

It's my favorite nocturne and you played it fantastically!! I actually learned a simplified version of it in my piano beginners class but i would really love to play the REAL piece but i never find where to download it from.

    :(

Oh well, you played it really well, keep it up!!

  • Hi =) Tnx :) Its great :D

And I got the sheets ready for download it the description box! :)

  • Beautifully played. It is amazing how far you got in 1 year

  • Hehe... No, not Easy. Cause All of Chopin's Nocturnes are considered hard :)

  • very well played. bravo

  • beautiful played , i believe that this is a level 8 piece personally

  • Hi :) Tnx. Well its actually considered a 7/11 on a Grade-Manual-Thingy I have downloaded! Im not really sure! But its one of Chopins easiest Nocturnes

  • level 8?

It's not hard at all, I learned the whole piece in two days (approximately 2-3 hours)

  • Actually considered a 7/11 on a Grade-Manual-Thingy I have downloaded!

  • Oh?

I always wanted one of those "what grade is this/that piece"

You think you can throw in a download link for it or any site in a pm?

  • Your heart with music full. Beautiful work.

  • beautiful :O :D 5 stars m8 :D

  • Very nice. Thanks for sharing. I am working on this piece myself (again). LOL

  • Hey this is really nice performance. Is amazing if you started 1 year ago to play and you play this song like this now, great job!

  • Beautiful playing and such a romantic video with the candles! Thank you!

  • my fav.

    Awesome performance

  • Fanatic playing there but your hands look very awkward and tense in the first part.

Try relaxing a little more and you will play a lot more beautifully.

Myself I'm only getting back into playing piano and getting a Tudor to help me progress a bit more, no to mention i can't read notes. But this is a song I'm wanting to re-learn.

Never give up playing or you'll end up like me and having re re-learn all over again :<

  • Thanks :)

Well, actually im very relaxed. Might seem like im unrelaxed cause the camera cant really catch every single frame :)

Oh, I see. Yeah. I hope I wont lose motivation :)

  • Awesome playing!! I play the same piece and you do it beatifully, thanks for sharing. =) 5/5

  • Err, beautifully that is, not beatifully! =P

  • Beautiful! I've played piano and finished music school 6 years ago... it reminds me those times...

  • Outstanding! I love this piece! Really very well done. 5***** -Derek

  • Beautiful - especially that decrescendo trill around 2:50 (somewhere around 2:50 :P)

This is really relaxing stuff. You're great at understanding and expressing the mood you want out of different sections.

A thought for where to bring your piano playing - on a real piano, there are hundreds of different tone qualities you can have, even without changing the volume level. Your playing is amazing! I just don't want you to develop bad tone habits by always playing an electric piano.

  • Hi =) Thanks :)

Yeah, but I cant afford a real piano :P

But, I dont think I will develop bad tone habits, cause its a relatively expensive Digital Piano where every single note is recorded from a real piano, its not Data Created, but real piano sound. And its even better since it got 3graded sensitivity which is something of the newer thing. I think there is 4graded also, but then Id have to give a couple 1000 more for it :P

  • I know exactly what you mean. Even though the sound on the piano is real, and played by a real pianist, usually they only use one "tone quality." A tone quality is different than a dynamic (volume level). I know of at least a dozen tone qualities you can have, even within one dynamic level.

Tone quality has nothing to do with whether or not the sound is artificial or a real recording of someone playing piano.

  • I am not a big fan of Frederic Chopin, and you've just made me one. . . I didn't know if that was a slow piano piece, or fast one!!! It seemed to be both at some point in the video. . . Like what antoniotvfan said below me. . . I hope you find the 100% sound quality. . . But that was incredible as it was!!! There is no stopping you Thomas!!! Maby when I'm older I 'll learn this, but I doubt when I do, it will be as good as yours. . . Well done!!!. . .

  • Nice to hear ;) Its a piece that can, and in my opinion should be played Rubato, which means that we should have a fluent tempo, faster, slower ect :) Yeah, the Quality is better than most pianovideos where people rec the audio with their camera, but not as good as Grand pianos recorded with Mics. But Im fairly satisfied with the AudioQuality cause there isnt any statics ect, and If I choose another setting like in most of my videos the quality is better, but not as beautiful as this setting :)

  • WONDERFUL! I've no
