@100PercentOJ There's nothing wrong with your question, but I'll tell you why it isn't realistic. For starters, plenty of ST BTDTs are already worried about AFSOC specialists being turned into generalists, & when you have a generalist, you lose the edge that these gentlemen posses in their respective fields, & thus you take away from their benefit to the SOF community as a whole. Second, it isn't fair to expect a CCT to provide ATC & forecast the weather, that's insane & counterproductive.
@GUMMYBEAYUH@100PercentOJ Third, SOWTs don't just forecast the Wx (Both terrestrial & space based (eg, Geomagnetic storms that can trash comm & guidance systems)), they also provide ER, which covers everything from (But not limited to) pinpointing river crossings, to flood predictions, avalanche threats, near-shore hydrographic data (eg, Tides, fog banks, storm /wind patterns), determining roadway/trail capacity for upcoming elements, & noting geographic features & their tactical importance.
@GUMMYBEAYUH@100PercentOJ SOWTs are also in charge of maintaining emplaced sensor platforms in remote locations, & training local assets to take & report their own readings as a network. An entire SOWT can literally carry suitcases full of their own equipment, as a CCT brings along their own too. Look at it this way as well, CCT combined with SOWT can run an entire airfield together as a combined unit, with CCT acting as the Tower, & SOWT the Met Office.
@GUMMYBEAYUH@100PercentOJ Yes, btw some of their abilities do overlap, but CCTs can only provide limited Wx observations, while SOWTs can only provide a basic level of air control. These men do go through most of the same training, but the big difference is their trade. The tradecraft of either takes a very long time to master, & they are both top-notch specialists who completely master their respective fields.
@GUMMYBEAYUH@100PercentOJ FYI- Often you will find individual SOWTs & CCTs attached to other SOF. SOWT has recently been deployed with SF ODAs, & MARSOC units. The CCT is with the team to provide Ground-Air-Interface. The CCT is busy directing AT/CAS, meanwhile a Wx system suddenly approaches & a huge issue arises. Now it's up to the SOWT to determine how long this system will last, where breaks will occur, & to help figure out a clear route for continued support. This happened in OEF & OIF.
@100PercentOJ because its too much.why dont you try combat air controlling and being a weatherman at the same time while youre being shot at.it doesnt work.if it did we wouldnt have swots.
@frankrojas09 theres no comparison.i was a soldier first then i became an airman.id rather have air force pjs tacp anyday over a seal or army special forces next to me.ive witnessed the training and the actual actions in combat theres just no comparison.ill be honest when i was in the army i thought the air force was a bunch of pussies until i became a PJ in 2006.
people argue about who is best: SEALs , PJs, CCT, or Delta. All I know, is that I would piss myself if I came across one when they were operating, and I wasn't an American!
Actually the PJs and CCT aren't really even in that contest. The PJs are more concerned with saving life than taking it, and the CCTs are more concerned with their radios than their weapons. They, like the Navy's EOD have a respectable amount of training due to the people they have to operate with, but units like the SEALs and MarSOC are a step above them in regards to CQB and other direct action type engagements. They are all great at what they are meant for though.
You're so right...soldiers don't fight for anyones freedom. Well, I mean all those guys who fought the British so we could govern ourselves...yeah, they did. And I guess the guys who bought our continued independence with their lives in the War of 1812 did. And then you've got the guys from WWI & WWII who went and not only fought for our freedom, but also that of strangers, in foreign lands. And today we're fighting for the liberty of the Afghans and Iraqis...yeah.
@USN1985dos Yeah, 200 years ago American militias fought for this nation's freedom. Today the military is owned by the Israeli lobby and the military industrial complex. Our freedom wasnt under attack in the world wars. All we did there was screw Germany. The dirty muslims dont give a shit about freedom. Democracy isnt civilizing Afghanistan. Invading Iraq caused a huge influx of dirty muslims to invade Sweden and now that country is more fucked up then Iraq. Stupid ass neocon.
Ohhh, the Israeli lobby. So pretty much what you're trying to say is that you're a racist piece of shit, a conspiracy theorist, and a dumb fucking moron. Go back to your bomb shelter with your picture of Adolf, douchebag.
@USN1985dos If by racist piece of shit you mean patriot who cares more for his country then some hostile foreign entity. Since you're obviously an idiot who's scared to death of upsetting the kosher mafia let me give you some facts. AIPAC is the most powerful lobbying group in the US. Why else do all the presidential candidates, except Ron Paul, bow down to them? The ADL and SPLC are not only intelligence organiations for police but they also dictate law enforecement policy.
More like I don't want the Jews sent back to the gas chambers for being Jewish. You can repeat all this bullshit that you heard from your Klan buddies, but the truth is, you're a racist sack of crap that would look for any excuse to condemn Israel and the Jews. Your kind lost WWII, give it up.
@USN1985dos I'm not in the Klan. They dont accept pagans. The holocaust is bullshit. Even if it was true, it doesnt give jews the right to completely dictate our foreign and domestic policy. Yeah, the good guys lost WWII. Thats why every white nation is slowly becoming non-white. But you still keep thinking that everything is fine and the punkass military is fighting for your nonexistent freedom. You just beleive whatever fox news tells you. How is Israel our ally anyway? I dare you to answer.
Which is to say that if you weren't pagan, you would be a happy member of a racist organization in your fresh white sheets? Figures. And the holocaust is bullshit? Alright, well you see, now I just know your an insane fuck tard. Piss off Nazi.
@USN1985dos Well I am a pagan so I guess we'll never find out. I bet you're the kind of asshole who thinks that only whites can be racist. @onemancomedy I have never seen one in an actual op -- the training will take 2 years and you will lose all relationships during those 2 years -- also, you will have to want to have some medical love in your life... I trust you know this is about rescue mostly and not killing.
@onemancomedy Just a heads up, I spoke with an Air Force recruiter and he said that Pararescue is enlisted only, and the officer version is called Combat Rescue Officer, and that it is mostly a desk job and you are in charge of the PJ's but you mainly make sure they are correctly supplied, getting the right training etc.
@n3gr0amigo1 thats not completely correct. combat rescue officers go on almost every mission with theur pj's. yes they make sure they are trained and supplied but they are always the call just as their enlisted counterparts are. when a CRO reaches the rank of major he will then have more f a administrative role because they are getting older and someone must run the wing. so in conclusion CRO's do the same thing as a PJ, just with more responsibility and more leadership roles.
@n3gr0amigo1 theres no difference all the training is the same for officers and enlisted.the only difference is that when youre done training the one with the commision is an officer and a cro.that just means that youre in a leadership role youre still a pj!youre just an officer.
@thenetnewb The USAF has just as many capable special forces as any other branch. TACP is no joke. Hell even Security Forces have the opportunity to go through Army Ranger training and RAVEN training. Stop being ignorant, if you aren't in the AF and don't know what it is about than don't make comments.
@thenetnewb No, i dont mean chair force you disrespecting little cunt. In the Air Force you choose the job you want if you qualify for it. @THEFUTURECCT 1. My father was in the Navy, My grandfathers in the Navy, I myself am in Army Rotc, and I live breathe and sleep military. I know things you couldn't dream of. I think you may be the one who's ignorant. Please test my ignorance.
@thenetnewb that means nothing. idc if your in rotc or not. so am i. and i do know the history of all of those topics thanks for asking, do you? dont call me ignorant because im not the one who is showing it by direspecting our battlefeild airman. yes airman not airmen. look that up too. and if you want me to test your ignorance on military history then who was the famous leader of the air force/army joint task team that was recognized as " the persian spartains"?
@THEFUTURECCT Sounds made up, but if not please enlighten me? How about this then: An easy one name 3 camouflages used by the US military that were not officially adopted.
@thenetnewb his name is staff sergeant robert gutierrez. and i dont have to waste my time typing an essay to prove anything to you. how about this. you keep yourself and your disrespectful comments off of this video. sound good? thanks.
@Eirik36 it really depends. some tacp are in full special ops platoons. but most arent. so some are and some arent. either way they are still under comand of afsoc so they are still considered special tactics airman.
@Eirik36 TACP is not spec ops. after they get done with their training they are allowed to go through a selections class like SOWT CCT and PJ do, and the ones that get selected go to a spec ops unit. typically TACP get assigned to a unit in the army for CAS purposes.
Raven unit with Security Forces can go SOF as well. If you think in lamen's term, TACP is a USAF job that is embedded with another branch, they work with the army/navy/marines to get warheads on foreheads. If it was any other branch it wouldn't be Spec Ops. Now I am a TACP candidate and let me tell ya, the PT is harder than any other PT out there except other Spec Ops. 4-5 hour pt Smoke sessions can take a toll on your body.
@n0rth you say you are a TACP candidate so i assume you have gone through bmt already? Now i know that pt isn't everything during TACP pipeline so how difficult is it to learn all the electronics and radio stuff?
@Eirik36 It isn't really hard at all but the biggest issue that a lot of people were having especially me was the confidence in speaking on the mic. If you know the basics of Ham radio you will have nothing to worry about with the radios, if you know how to hunt/navigate/camp in the woods over the weekend, you should be ok in the field. If you have any other questions, let me know!
@prodigynitrogen a swot deploys with special forces and go behind enemy lines and bring in a weather forcast so the special forces know what to expect
@rockandrollallnight4 The whole job description is to tell weather in a combat zone? What else do they, say for example when the weather shows no sign of changing? I'm sure they have something to accomplish at the same time...
@prodigynitrogen sorry for late reply but my uncle(who used to be one) said they also just fight with every one else on the mission their objective is to make sure everyone is prepared for rain or snow or heat.
@kylecali actually he is wrong. all special tactics careers have officer equivalents. CCT-STO TACP-ALO PJ-CRO SOWT-SOWTO. And they all see just about the same amount of combat until they reach the rank of captain. Then theyre moved to more of a planning position.
@buttholeBANGER31flav That's not really true. I know guys that have clearances as high as TS/SBI that smoked weed and got cleared and given an EAR/SAR. Someone is "blowing smoke" up your butt. :) One of my co-workers even had a Marijuana leaf Tattoo in color on his arm.
Good luck to you and I envy you being able to do this (Im in the aircraft maintenance field, and wish I would have know about this job when I enlisted, its to late for me now though)
@strangerthnnorm woah nice work!!! goodluck with it. You should inbox me and let me know some info. ive been considering the SOWT for a while now. requirements? qualifications? im already aware of the training n whatnot but want to know what u have to actually do to get in. what steps are required. thanks alot!
@lightlearner an sto will do the exact same job as an enlisted cct until he reaches the rank of captain or major depending on his assignment. after that he will be moved to more of a leading role like paperwork maybe. but as an officer you can still go on patrol if you wanted to because your an officer. plus by the time youve made it to the rank of a major, you wouldnt want to be in the feild that much anymore anyways. ive gotten this info first hand from sto's here at lackland afb.
@aptxxxtimmy make sure you read the AFI on retraining, cause AFPC will try to fuck you in every way possible. also, often times they don't know what they're talking about.
@coastalrecon62 TACP are Close Air Support specialists who mainly support conventional Army units, with qualified JTAC operators supporting Rangers and occasionally other special operations units. CCT are Air Traffic Control specialized operators who roll with Special Forces and SEALs who can provide not only Close Air Support but are also serve as Air Traffic Controllers to direct air traffic and precise air drops and get aircraft like C-130s to land even when there is no base or airfield.
hope all is well, you should be about half way through BMT by now, so you wont be reading this anytime soon, but good luck and never give up. keep you mind focused
Nothing against the SOWT's but I still don't understand the need for weather teams. I don't get why they just don't train CCT's to do that job.

4-5 hour pt Smoke sessions can take a toll on your body.
n0rth 2 months ago
@n0rth you say you are a TACP candidate so i assume you have gone through bmt already? Now i know that pt isn't everything during TACP pipeline so how difficult is it to learn all the electronics and radio stuff?
Eirik36 2 months ago
@Eirik36 It isn't really hard at all but the biggest issue that a lot of people were having especially me was the confidence in speaking on the mic. If you know the basics of Ham radio you will have nothing to worry about with the radios, if you know how to hunt/navigate/camp in the woods over the weekend, you should be ok in the field. If you have any other questions, let me know!

the easiest way to put it is a weatherman with a gun. they are used to provide acurate weather info in a combat zone.

What the hell does a SOWT really do?
prodigynitrogen 3 months ago
@prodigynitrogen a swot deploys with special forces and go behind enemy lines and bring in a weather forcast so the special forces know what to expect
rockandrollallnight4 3 months ago
@rockandrollallnight4 The whole job description is to tell weather in a combat zone? What else do they, say for example when the weather shows no sign of changing? I'm sure they have something to accomplish at the same time...
prodigynitrogen 3 months ago
@prodigynitrogen sorry for late reply but my uncle(who used to be one) said they also just fight with every one else on the mission their objective is to make sure everyone is prepared for rain or snow or heat.

THEFUTURECCT 3 months ago
@lightlearner no just the cct aspect of it. But of course they could always do a joint ops and join with another group if the mission called for it.
THEFUTURECCT 3 months ago
@kylecali actually he is wrong. all special tactics careers have officer equivalents. CCT-STO TACP-ALO PJ-CRO SOWT-SOWTO. And they all see just about the same amount of combat until they reach the rank of captain. Then theyre moved to more of a planning position.
THEFUTURECCT 3 months ago
is there an officer equivalent to special ops weathermen?
kylecali 3 months ago
@kylecali
only TACP and PJ's have officer equivalent
and TACP officers are the only ones that really see combat
PJ officers typically plan the strategies for a PJ mission
though they can deploy with a PJ team

also, is it true that if u smoked weed before and admitted to it, u can never obtain a TopSECRET clearance??? thats wtf i heard.
buttholeBANGER31flav 3 months ago
@buttholeBANGER31flav That's not really true. I know guys that have clearances as high as TS/SBI that smoked weed and got cleared and given an EAR/SAR. Someone is "blowing smoke" up your butt. :) One of my co-workers even had a Marijuana leaf Tattoo in color on his arm.

one more year in college and ima enlist for either sto or cct
lightlearner 4 months ago
@lightlearner well if you graduate college you can only be sto you cant be cct. cct is enlisted only and sto is the officer equal to cct.
THEFUTURECCT 4 months ago
@lightlearner an sto mostly does paper work right? i might enlist because i want to be in the field, not behind a desk.
lightlearner 3 months ago
@lightlearner an sto will do the exact same job as an enlisted cct until he reaches the rank of captain or major depending on his assignment. after that he will be moved to more of a leading role like paperwork maybe. but as an officer you can still go on patrol if you wanted to because your an officer. plus by the time youve made it to the rank of a major, you wouldnt want to be in the feild that much anymore anyways. ive gotten this info first hand from sto's here at lackland afb.
THEFUTURECCT 3 months ago
@THEFUTURECCT oh ok, so the sto's is in charge of all spec ops or whichever you sign up as?

whats the diffrence bettwen CCT and TACP?
coastalrecon62 4 months ago
@coastalrecon62 TACP are Close Air Support specialists who mainly support conventional Army units, with qualified JTAC operators supporting Rangers and occasionally other special operations units. CCT are Air Traffic Control specialized operators who roll with Special Forces and SEALs who can provide not only Close Air Support but are also serve as Air Traffic Controllers to direct air traffic and precise air drops and get aircraft like C-130s to land even when there is no base or airfield.

What kind of MOS does the airforce have for you to become a sniper like the guy in the video at 7:23 ????
POPJack1717 8 months ago
@POPJack1717 When you enlist, you can request the school. If you want to be a sniper your best bet is the ARMY not the AIR FORCE.
