those stinking bastards at NBC just plain don't care, they just don't give a damn, that's why they're the No Body Cares network in my book, and you can tell those SOB's i said that!!!!
Concentration was great game show, NBC had many shows taped on each other on the same tape. I read that they lost lot of the tapes. Its bad, because all the game shows they had would make huge collection. Even too big for GSN.
I've always loved "Concentration". I was too young to have seen the original but I do remember watching the Narz version as a child. It's the 87-91 run that I recall most vividly though.
Now if, as you say, the original really IS intact and NBC lies about its wiping, do the 64-75 and 78-79 runs of "Jeopardy!" really exist too? I know I've asked about it before elsewhere but I'm too eager a fan, I guess.
I'd also be interested in seeing that list of existing shows you mentioned earlier.
by the way, Mark Goodson never owned the rights to CONCENTRATION, he leased those rights from NBC,which of course as i have already mention in a previous comment owns the rights to CONCENTRATION, the most popular and most beloved game show in the history that network aand they still own the rights to it,those filthy bastards!!!!!!
I have a full version of this theme, if you're interested. It's called Un Tout Petit Pantin (Puppet on a String), and the artist is Raymond Lefevre. I have no idea when it was originally released, though.
I would like to see the Clayton Episodes of the players spinning the"Cash Wheel".If anyone has it,would they be allowed to upload them? I know NBC Uni owns the show and destroyed the tapes years ago.Brainy
anyone know what the solutions are to the other puzzles at 0:41 and 1:16? Also is the kinescope featuring the puzzle at the 1:16 mark available on video? (I only know of one ep available on video and would love to obtain more if possible.)
The one at 1:16 is Walter Slezak (an actor - he was in Alfred Hitchock's "Lifeboat," among many others). I don't know if that episode is available on video but it is available for viewing at the Paley Center for the Media (the old Museum of TV and Radio) in NY or LA.
Oh ok! I could not figure it out for the life of me, but decided it must be a person. I have heard of Walter Slezak but I'm not sure if I've seen his work or not. Thanx for the help! :)
The tune is "Puppet On A String" ... I don't know whose version it is though.
I look forward to seeing video on that episode you have on Quad! There are far too few episodes out there on the trading curcuit.
I will never understand why NBC keeps such a tight-ass rein on the existing tapes. They could have made some money on them, back when GSN wanted to air them.
the main host of the show during the 1958-1969 era, Hugh Downs, was a big star for the NBC network...not only did he host this game show but he hosted/co-hosted NBC's "Today" with Barbara Walters, 1962-1971, and was an announcer on a show called "Home", 1954-1957...on top of all that, Hugh was the announcer during Jack Paar's five year run as host of the "Tonight Show", 1957-1962...
In 1978 he joined ABC news and became co-host of "20/20" with Barbara...remaining on that show for 21 years.
CONCENTRATION had life after NBC...Bob Clayton took over as host, 1969-1973, after Hugh left; it was a syndicated hit with Jack Narz hosting, 1973-1978; the version I grew up watching came along in 1987, hosted by Alex Trebek, until ending production in 1991...and since that time no new episodes have been produced. Game Show Network aired the Trebek version with some regularity but not the Hugh Downs, Bob Clayton, or Jack Narz versions. it's a mystery why NBC doesn't revive the show or something
Oh I agree. I think it'd be interesting to hear the closing theme, for instance, played with strings (maybe even as a MIDI). If the clip heard in your other video is the full closing theme, it wouldn't be too hard to do.
Great clips. :) I wish they'd stuck with this version of the theme (mid-show) instead of switching to the cheesy organ version. Of the few eps I've seen of the NBC Concentration it almost seems like they kept as low of a budget as possible, opting for things like organ music when other game shows were using pre-recorded music, guitars, or other more-modern sounding stuff.

LOL good one. This was my dad's favorite game show as a child, along with the Newlywed Game.

NBC owns the rights to CONCENTRATION,which is why there will never be a revival and why the existing episodes will never be seen on GSN!!!!

And the one at 0:41 is "Breathes there a man with soul so dead" -- it's a line from a poem by Sir Walter Scott.
banjochris 2 years ago
Oh yes I remember that line. They had some really great challenging puzzles on the NBC and Narz versions.

I dont either! I cant see why they dont want to air the tapes of Concentration or their other gameshows that exist on tape
secondchance1977 3 years ago
Because NBC has their head up their ____, NBC is too darn stingy with the tapes. I wonder what other shows NBC has in their vaults.
kimberlyKfnOphiEAGLE 3 years ago
They have MANY! I can send you a full list if yould like!
secondchance1977 3 years ago
Mind asking your friend about the original '50s Tic Tac Dough? And if you're lucky, your friend can send you an episode to upload.

but perhaps Hugh being so closely associated now with ABC is why NBC fails to release the earlier version of CONCENTRATION in any abundance?

I should clarify, I meant played ON strings (like 101 strings), not with strings. Sorry about the confusion.
