and just think if everybody in the world had like 30 of these on there house how much you could save/be less dependent on a non-replaceable energy source
@Mrinfoone No Shorts, but the connections are a little rusty. But I'm making a new 3-fase generator for this one. I think it will be ready in early spring.
Nice job But why dont you go to a heating or air handling company or even a scrap yard and pick up a Used large squirrel cage fan. Its already balanced and has a shaft and bearing already attached (and bearing housings). might even still have a pulley on the end of the shaft. They already worked out the best design years ago. they use them on apartment buildings and factories for roof exhaust fans. Again nice work. :)
@jimdennett True, but I wanted to build a windturbine with the stuff I already had and intended to use the design of the exhaust fan you are talking about. I noticed lots of differences in test output with different angles of the blades. (I use an old fan for testing inside my house)
If the angle is to narrow, the VAWT won't start by itself. If the angle is to wide, the same problem occurs.
But I will keep this in mind, should save me a lot of time. Thanks!
One of the motors has a spring for tightening the belt.
I have no data yet, but my order of pannelmeters just arrived, so I'm planning to build one. I got solarpower and windpower connected to the same charger unit. I want to measure amp and voltage from both inputs and from the output together. Already have a cyclecomputer for measuring speed, now I just need some time...... :S
Looks great! Would like to know how you connected the motor to the VAWT. Looks like you used a belt. Elastic? With springs? Any data on wind speed and voltage generated?
cool

WORLD RECORD: BIGGEST WIND TURBINE
Visit: windturbinecarriedbywheels.weebly.com
ZERO-NOISE from gears and generators since they're sealed underground.
SAVES THE BIRDS AND BATS since the turbines are slow-moving.
DOES NOT NEED TO OCCUPY A WIDER LANDSCAPE since the turbine can be very tall.
MAY BE LOWER-COST since it can use parts of junked trucks and others.
ELUDES HURRICANE FORCE since the blades automatically close.
HELPS THE WIND ENERGY COMPANIES since it is FREE FOR ALL.

3kv. @ what (minuman) wind speed?
acklan3 2 months ago
@acklan3 I wish! I think it woul be around 9999rpm to get that kind of voltage.
I managed to get 150volts out of it @ 4bft but with no load, so no amps.

does it still work in the rain with any shorts or problems?
Mrinfoone 3 months ago
@Mrinfoone Yeah it still works, although rust is building up, so I wonder for how long this will last.
In the mean time I'm building a 'Dual Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Alternator' which will replace the ceilingfan within a month or two.
That would be the moment to get some dimensions of the VAWT so I can answer other questions.

Anyone can build a VAWT, but recycling is the greater challenge!

Nice job, very sturdy.

The VAWT has again been altered.
Look for my 'VAWT 02' vid.
It is still the same driver but the printer/scanner motors have been replaced by a modified ceiling fan.

nice job man....do you know hoa many ampers are you producing....???let us know....om

Well done on the design.
What are the dimensions?
What are you using as a generator?
I really like the looks (for lack of a better description), it's pleasing, that alone ought to keep the neighbours off your back. *****

Really neat looking unit. It actually looks to be a part of the house. Would be great to see close up of the generator workings. Awsome job.

I used a belt from a deskjet printer.
One of the motors has a spring for tightening the belt.

it looks well built, happy to see others trying to use things from arround the yard.
good work

I used a motor from an old printer. Later that week I changed it. Now I have 2 printer motors in series so the voltage is higher with lower rpm.

Nice! I see you raised it a bit to get it into the wind. What sort of generator are you using?
