@mabulatious That broke my heart too what Cas did, but I think by then, Cas had already shut down and broken inside because he saw everyone turning against him when he was trying his best, and then Balthazar lying about being at his side just really was the last straw that shattered him. I could have swore I saw the moment when Cas just shut down completely before he killed Balthazar, it was like he just stopped feeling because he couldn't take it anymore. It was a tragedy. :'(
