@luckysod04 FDNY has notably banned the siren because of its loudness and for many years has used the Federal Signal PA300, which then lead to them being criticized for sounding more like a police car or an EMS unit than a fire truck. The FDNY then purchased an E-Q2B equipped 2007 Pierce Arrow XT, assigned to Rescue 1.Before then, many companies throughout FDNY have placed mechanical sirens on their rigs over the years confiscated during maintenance. The EQ2B now comes standard on new FDNY rigs

@luckysod04 Q's are good for vehicle traffic. They will render pedestrians deaf though. There's firemen who are suing their own departments because of hearing loss due to the Q, imagine the entire population of Manhattan suing the city for the same thing!

Q's exceed it... they can have them but they cannot ring out. in departments just above the city they can have all the Q they want... my department is crazy with Q's!

@longcut93 the real federal q siren bounces off all off the buildings, and in NYC the buildings are so close together it causes noise pollution- so the pa300 was the siren of choice (featured here) until FDNY and the city allowed for the electronic "q" or EQ2B to be installed on the new rigs
