  • Oh, did I mention the diction? Since I believe that is what makes your performance...speak. It really gives an impression of an emotion. Thumbs up

  • @Miganiya Thanks! Check out my recent video of "Sweet Lorraine". It's another Gene Puerling arrangement like this one, but I got a little help from a real bass and a real soprano :)

  • Overall impressive pitch control, and an absolutely adorable bass. Loved it

  • i love all of your stuff!!! your really talented!

  • HI - really enjoyed this performance, and your 'A Nightingale Sang...' One little suggestion - you could let us enjoy your phrases a bit more by lingering at the ends, esp. the end of the song.. Since you possess such an obvious gift we would only wish you explore the breadth of your phrases a bit more... we want to 'breathe with you'! Thanks for posting, and you should be getting as many hits as Sam Tsui and NIck Pitera - can you guys do a trio? When are YOU going to be on 'Ellen'??

  • That was cool

  • Kudos to the late Gene Puerling for this fine arrangement. Nice project, Danny.

  • This is how music should be. it was honestly the most amazing thing i have heard in such a long while. i got this tingle that i get when i here really good music. i really can't even explain it. please make more because i have missed this kind of beautiful music so much and you have brought it back and given it justice.

  • @rjszilagyi Check out my "like someone in love" I think it'll be up your alley

  • Young man, please keep this art form alive. I tried in my generation of musicians. All my life I wanted to have a vocal group. Had done once for about a year. Everybody else lost interest. Am too old now to sing like that, but I hear harmony in my head for breakfast. Tackling a Gene Puerling chart...man, that takes guts and talent.

  • Your soprano part is too low.

  • do you transpose the bass line down an octave to get the bass line out? as well a lot of auto tune was kinda weird...bring it down to bring out your natural voice which is heard very sparsely but was very good

  • @livingeternity There is autotune on ONE note in this entire song, and that is the C, last note of the intro, where it is noticeable, and I dislike it too. The rest of the song may sound autotuned, but that is just my poor technique at the time showing through, it's just shakiness in my voice. But if you listen closely, my tuning is nowhere near spot on in this recording.

  • @daniscool99 Thats pretty crazy. Your tuning is really good if your not using autotune extensively...but ya i guess i mistook it for bad technique. I totally understand that. Regardless, is the bass line all you without any computer transposing

  • @livingeternity Yep! However I sang it after a nap so it was really low and raspy.. it sounds pretty bad by itself haha

  • @daniscool99 I was about to ask if you use some computer pitch change (not autotune) or if you have all this voice extension... Amazing!

  • @daniscool99

Hope you like this video as well. Focus on music and emotion (and low unedited notes) :)

    Peace :)

  • @daniscool99 @daniscool99

Hope you like this video as well. Focus on music and emotion (and low unedited notes) :)

    Peace :)

  • Aye bro this was tight my dude. Low key it kinda had a barbershop feel to it tho. Have so girls in the room.... for some reason that brings the jazz out of people lol

  • I desire you so much, it is killing me. How about some close-ups?

  • What program do you use for this?

  • The upper corner voice's (i think alto or tenor) volume is up a little too high i think. I heard a bass undertone in my headphones in the beginning and it was awesome!

    You earned another subscriber.

  • Pretty complex. Nice job.

  • Dude you're my satb idol :)

  • I'm impressed.

  • Gene Purling definitely arranged the heck out of this...We sang this version in my collegiate choir at UAPB I love this version brought back memories good job man

  • That is crazy good!!! What a BEAR of an arrangement to tackle. You did it, though! :-D

  • Great job! As you admit you're a bit pitchy here and there but hey, singing ONE of these parts alone in Puerling's arrangement is challenging enough! I'm a huge Singer's Unlimited/Puerling fan and this is my favourite of their tunes...

**dates self** When I was your age I went through a phase listening to this album and MT's Mecca For Moderns almost every night before hitting the sack. That was over 25 years ago! In fact, my first vocal lift was the OTHER song where I commented about you ;)

  • Bravissimo!! wow, I'm really enjoying (present tense 'cause I'm listening over-and-over) your treatment of this fantastic arrangement. Starting around 1:50 the "out" harmonies set up a really delightful tension. Its a beautiful high wire act. Thank you so much for transcribing, performing, editing, posting. ...

  • GREAT!!!!

  • Good stuff young man!

  • this is amazing!!!!!!!

  • This is VERY good and beautiful. Considering the effort that this take, i think that it's increidible.

  • Excellent! This was a triumph! You are truly outstanding. I will favorite this one for sure and subscribe! I'd pay to see you do more Singer's Unlimited arrangements. You certainly chose one of the most difficult ones!

  • @scrippslarry Hoping to do another over Christmas break!

  • Not perfect but pretty good! I can imagine it makes you happy doing this :-D

  • ima bass in my chior, the only one, and there are 5 tenors, and 20 altos and 22 sopranoes, lol, if u ever need a bass =D i can project =P

  • danny!

  • What do you sing normally dude? Pretty good bass voice if you sing lead.

  • @pianoplayerJH I sing tenor, I only sing bass when I wake up :)

  • @daniscool99 Lucky! I can't EVER sing bass. (My lowest note is seriously an F#2 My highest though... is a G6. :3

  • Cool! It's widely inspired by "the singers unlimited", is'nt it? Indeed, it is a very beautiful arrangement!

  • He is perfect. I do multracking myself and just play around with my multitracker and it is not easy. No auto-tune will work on acapella, so this means this is all pure raw voices, maybe a little reverb helps but you have to have the perfect ear and pitch. Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • First vocal jazz video I REALLY enjoyed. Adorable work, thank you very much! Just great... Good luck,

    B.

  • when my vocal teacher brought a jazz singer jared i was hooked i asked my teacher how to sing like him she said he listens to alot of music and being in her class since hes a senioir and hes free in my hour im going to see if he can help me jazz forever

  • wonderful !

  • I enjoyed that Danny! U are cool! Keep singing brother! You got it!

  • People often say i have the

    perfect voice for barbershop

    and SATB's. But people forget

    that i can't read notes :(

  • @Ruttie2

you don't have to read music to sing barbershop. Most choruses provide their singers with part predominant learning tracks. Even the singers that read use them to learn music while they do other things like drive. I urge you to get involved. I sing and direct and love, love, love it.

  • wonderful voice!!

  • Those are some hip substitutions.

Do you know music theory, or are you doing this all by ear?

    Impressive either way!

  • Good vocalization and blending.Keep it up..good work..

    Sunny Toronto

  • BRAVISSIMOOOOOOO!

  • WONDRFUL

    This shows your ability.

    You range is awesone.

    trevororrell

  • oh my gosh! this is friggin awesome!!!!! is that really u singing???

  • Hey my names christian.i love your multitrack barbershop vid's great work you inspire me no homo..lol.. well just wonder.idk if anyone else asked you. what program do you use to do this i've asked but i keep forgetting which one it is.thanks for reading hope u answer back soon.if possible.. thanx.dang you got to teach me these things and also do u use a normal hp pc with the program to record or an imac or wat..sorry again for these questions.thanx again.

  • Amazing range brother!

  • awesome chords. only thing i would fix is your pronunciation of "that", which sounds like "dat".

  • @gfunk449 He's Canadian...nuf said. Seriously, I love listening to these vids.

  • Wow!

  • Comment removed

  • @eaglesonofwill The lovely sentiment is by Oscar Hammerstein for Kern's melody.

  • love it...you have a great voice..and an incredible ear...

  • great harmonies.. keep up the efforts

  • What an amazing job young man. I am a totally impressed 73 year old voice major and teacher and I've never heard better.

  • That's beautiful! I'd love to get my hands on that arrangement...

  • @RLBscoring - It's a published chart arr. by Gene Puerling - originally recorded by Singers Unlimited.

  • Congratulations! I've just added this to my favorites at orkut. Greetings from Rio de Janeiro!

  • Solamente para estudiosos.Bueeeno...

  • Outstanding!

  • amazing!!!

  • That's one heck of a difficult arrangement. Love the harmonies though. You said you do some arranging yourself. Is there a website where one can check out those scores?

  • Awesome!

  • this is cool

  • WOW. Those are some cool voicings. Did you do the arrangement yourself? If so, congratulations on being one of those rare vocalists whose also a musician.

  • Not bad at all, enjoyed listening!

  • I still and probably never understand how you do it. I know i know,

reading notes. But that doesn't really work for me. I've always captured

music by ear (and i always will probably)

  • Danny, really cool stuff and a very honest interpretation.

Keep it up. Songs need you.

  • Thank you. Just a joy to watch and listen!

  • Had to sign in to comment on your video.

    Excellent, well done!!

    What a treat!!

  • amazing dude

  • Did you practice long?

  • amazing!

  • Great idea, young man! Of all the times I've recorded practice/parts CDs for choral groups, it never occured to me to create a video performance like this. Very cool idea!!! Stay with this art, you are gifted.

AND - thank your parents (or whomever) for supplying you with recording equipment, too! ;)

  • Thanks! I bought the recording equipment myself :)

  • The Hi Lo's were when there were real vocal groups. The crap we hear today doesn't hold a candle to their work. Real musicianship not recording studio tricks.

  • I sang with Danny in choir for a few years. He doesn't use any recording tricks in these videos, just overlapping multi-tracks. And he sings live in several vocal groups, including a rockin' barbershop quartet. I'd say he has real musicianship!

  • Thanks! but who is this mystery musician who sang in choir with me for a few years?

  • @daniscool99 Steph from Greystones way back when. I felt the comment made by the person above mine was uncalled for so I decided to back you up!

  • @slr729 Rideout!

  • Too bad Gene Puerling arranged this tune for the Singers Unlimited, eh? ;)

  • Then I guess it's too bad that Gene Puerling arranged this tune for the Singers Unlimited, eh? ;)

  • Wonderful beautiful of all, thank God there are people with this musicality,

thank you for this video, wonderful ...

    sorry my Englich weak.

  • absolutely amazing !!!!!!!

  • wow wow wow...this is great

  • AMAZING!!

  • That was beautiful, kid ♥

  • VERY CREATIVE! i never thought of a quartet being sung by one person lol...i thought it was pretty nice (sounding wise) and i enjoyed it. good job!

  • Phenomenal!

  • Amazing! Really good job!

  • ur a tenor naturally....but amazing still

  • where can i find free sheet music for this song for my choir quartet

  • great dissonances. all of your stuff is top notch, especially for just being in college. I hope to see you performing at the BHS International Championships one day.

  • Nice! I really enjoyed this.

  • Gene Purling - good choice !

    Terrific work !

  • Flatten your tongue. Your open vowels are choked.

  • WELL. DONE.

  • dud... this is one of my favourite songs and i am always looking for cover and yours is awesome... i'm a singer and musician... excelent!!

  • @jerryhepi Thank you :)

  • wooooah! bravo!

  • I salute you. Bravo! That is really tough to sing all this ranges of pitches.

  • Coisa mais linda!

  • Amazing! I am ready for cry! Bravo!!!

  • this is the singers unlimited's arrangement...well done!

  • Incredible full voice range, and falsetto. I love this arrangement did you compose it yourself? I would love to see some sheet music for it.

  • This is such a difficult arrangement, and you have performed it brilliantly...BRAVO!!!

  • .applause

    Fantastic

  • So was it the ensemble director that came up with the SATB arrangement? It's really beautiful... I there were any way for me to get the sheet music for this, it would make my day.

  • Dang Boy!! You got something there! That was oddly evocative and disturbing at the same time! But in a good way!! Keep it up!!!

  • D'You have the sheet music?

  • wow this is so cool!!

  • how did you this ?? look at my videos (djrex3)

  • WOW AMAZING. You're my idol.

  • Those progressions are intense. And you nailed them. I'd give you a high five if you were within arm's reach.

  • I've heard a lot of jazz singing, but this is really amazing! Keep on jazzin' buddy!

  • awesome like ever

  • Love your work !

  • What program do you use to edit and mix all of these?

  • i'd love to hear you do i'll be there by michael jackson.

    or

    ben by michael jackson :D

  • Those are some delicious chord progressions. I think my ears had an orgasm. o_O

  • eargasm?

  • lol, touche.

  • lol

  • One of my all-time fave jazz standards, and not an easy tune with all the complex chord changes -- excellently done.

  • You are excellent! I'd like to hear you tackle..'Tenderly" one of my faves...

  • W-O-W !!!!!!! You are AMAZING! This timeless song is one of my favorites. Thank you for posting it. :)

  • I wanted to sing this as a solo and was researching different vocalists, like michael jackson, beverly sills, and so on. yours was so inventive and lovely! you are very talented.

  • got this kind of John Barry thing going on

  • Just stunning. Wonderful harmony, not a bum note in the entire piece. Very impressive.

  • I love your music, but it's too bad that you can't perform these songs live. Unless you could clone yourself into 4. Beautiful, danny!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice eb

  • great!

  • that is freaking amazing. so hard to do... believe i've tried haha

  • Beautiful! Bravo!!!

  • I dont beleive you did this, sorry it is too good!

  • I don't know if that is a compliment, or if you are accusing me of lying? I assure you it is me and is genuine. If you ever find this audio anywhere done by anyone other than me. Then I will admit to being a liar. If it's a compliment, thanks I guess.

  • I am not sure, it was just a gut reaction. The range is massive and there are very dissonant harmonies there which are incredibly difficult. If you say it is you I beleive you. You didnt state it was all your own work on the video, some people do mime on youtube as a performance piece.

I am a pro musician of 30 years experience and I would say this work is exceptional.

  • Ahh I see. This is not a mime work. I am indeed singing all 4 parts. The Soprano and Alto primarily in falsetto, but with some of the melody lines I was able to sing in a very high chest. It was not an easy task to say the least recording this piece.

I am a vocal major entering my third year of a degree based primarily around jazz music, so I know what I am singing and have performed this live (singing tenor).

  • ooooh tegid699. i think you just got burned. :O

  • Wwell.. hardly. He says he is a professional, and said he believed me if I said so :).

  • man who is good is good :) the others aren't!

    like you

  • your a very talented man!

    you have my respect .

  • U R amazing...

  • A great, great piece of work. I have a lot of respect for this accomplishment. Thanks!

  • This is beautiful.

    So very beautiful.

  • Oh wow, nice work! Is there any way I can get a copy of the score so that I can perform this with my quartet? Keep up the good work!

    -G

  • Very impressive, young man! Nicely done. Did you have something to watch to direct the 4 of you's? Many years ago I played piano for Western Michigan University's Gold Company. Ever heard of them?

  • Only the waveforms of the tracks previously recorded. Recorded the first one from a note on the pitch pipe. Haven't heard of them unfortunately.

  • How about Stephen Zegree? He's Gold Company's Director at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI, USA. He's done an awful lot in the area of Vocal Jazz, and is known around the world.

  • Still have a Gold Company albmum around. I rember a track called "screamin" - very cool bass and keys for the time. Had a scholarship to sing with Gold Company - brings back memories. Anyway - the above arrangment is Gene Puerling's - but I believe this is the Singers Unlimited version. It is a little different, but close

  • four freshmen ! my favorite old stuff. very complicated chords. nice work.

  • you make my heart warm. i miss and love you my little fongaroo

  • dat YOU ARE da first tenor did wuz squeaky as hell, but dis jawn wuz nice!!

  • huh?

  • I'd like to second that.

  • i think he meant that those are the things "dat YOU ARE". and that the 1st tenor was really squeaky (which i think that the tenor was fine, the bass was kinda weird tho), and that overall, this was a good job (i agree)

    That's what he meant. Lol

  • OMG,I´m spanish,I don´t speak too English but I think that You will come very far I have listened to all your multitrack and in all the hair of top has put on me, Excuse me for the mistakes of expression, but I´m helping myself with a translator (who isn´t very good), I sing in a choir and love the music, therefore I say to you that you are wonderful, you have a voice of luxury and very nice, I wish a lot of luck you bye no dejes nunca de cantar porque lo que haces es verdaderamente dificil

  • I have to say, this multitrack has to be my favorite one from you, so far ;) . Like ocariocao said, He would have been proud. Great song! You sound amazing! I love your voice. Can't wait to see what you have coming up next! :)

    Cela

  • AMAZING!!!!!!! MARAVILHOSO!!!! LINDO!!!

Hey man, how old are you? You look like a teenager, I can't imagine what you`ll be able to do in 10 years... What a voice!!!

I wish Gene Puerling could hear that. He would be so proud of you.

Congratulations from a Brazilian who lives in Vancouver.

  • Thank you so much! It's nice to find people who appreciate the difficulty of this music. The barbershop music i like to sing is practically child's play compared to this. I am 20 years old, and in music college. with no major plans for the future so far.

  • This is a difficult song as you say, but the result is pretty good to my ears.

  • Yes My Friend ...Rest in peace Gene Puerling the best vocal arranger of all times... The true giant that over his shoulders stand all those guys like Take 6, NYV etc. ...Also RIP to the greatest Bass of all times Len Dresslar, without him The Singers Unlimited wouldn't have been the same, his range was unlimited indeed !

All the best to you my friend !

  • Buddy !

Really really great ! Gene Puerling must be very pleased with your interpretation ! I'll send a link to the rest of The Singers Unlimited so they can hear this awesome tribute !

  • Hopefully Gene would be fond of my interpretation! RIP to the great man. Do you know the singers unlimited?! That would be fantastic! What a pleasure!

    Bless you,

    Danny

  • Oh my goodness that is AMAZING. You pretty much made my LIFE...not just my day, my life. I just want to know where you get your music (or possibly if you write it yourself) and how in God's good name you have such an awesome range. This is just amazing. I love your vocal jazz....it's depressing because you can't find stuff like this much anymore.

  • Thanks you very much Shannon. I go to Humber College and am in an 8 part vocal jazz ensemble and we tackled this piece. Our teacher gave us the music for it and it's the arrangement performed by the Singers Unlimited. I appreciate your kind words :).

  • thats gorgeous :)

  • Dude, that rocked. Fan-freakin-tastic. Really nice job putting that together. Keep it up.
