this is cool. some of these are a hit or miss. this one is good! there is one listed here on this thread that they mentioned just to get attention and that one sucks... suckie wannabees
All of you people are douchebags. Who cares wtf the vid says, how accurate it is, and your personal feelings on the matter. The video is funny, and you people are stupid. And I hate you. Especially Ben.
didn't the civil engineer who designed the freeways in Austin kill himself? I'm not trying to be a dick, just trying to confirm something I've heard countless times.
Hah I never get over this. As a true, nonnative Austinite, who has lived here for 8yrs, doing my part to keep up the good vibe, I'd say that one reason this city rocks is because, for the most part, we aren't always so judgmental. Sometimes it take getting out of a city to really appreciate a good thing. Austin isn't cool because you were born here, its cool because we don't have to be too cool for skool to actually be interesting. Maybe try NY. Maybe THEY will be impressed you were born here.
@KestralWolfe "As an Austin native, I was born here so...blah, blah, blah...Californians, blah, blahblahblah...What you think doesn't matter. I mean, I was born and raised here, so I should know."
The street is Guada-loop, the river is Guada-loopy, it is Manshack, and the most often-repeated things any true Austinite says is, "I remember when ...." and "it didn't useta" ...
It's never been "Guadalupay" and it NEVER WILL BE. It's Guadalupe as in 'loop'. I'm an 8th generation Austin (since 1836), my family was some of the very first ones here and it is 'loop'.
And it's 'Burn-it Can't You Learn-it", and NOT BurNETTE Road.
The stuff they say sounds like the 19 year old transplants from California and New York, not real Austinites.
This needs Closed Captioning for those of us over 60 with hearing disabilities. I couldn't understand half of what they said.
Lady Bird Lake is a man made reservoir for the CO River right? Someone help me out here. I am surprised there was nothing about going to play Disc Golf, Record Stores or Bad Traffic,
one problem with this video: If u hate sxsw you're probably trying too hard to go against the grain. we call our city the "live music capital of the world" so COME ON. sx brings in so much revenue and so much talent that we get to discover way early in the game. if ur an austinite and u hate sx u must not be a music lover and u prob need to get over yourself.
OMG! I've been out of Austin for a year & a half and this reminded me how AWESOME Austin is! I can't wait til the end of the year when I'll be back. Thanks for the awesome video.
@PureGamingClanPC I was born in Austin long before you were...and we said different shit. But equally cool and weird. Something for every generation. :-)
you forgot, "Southby...that's for tourists"..."I really prefer to by local"....."I was BORN here...cool huh?" ..... "The cops don't care if you smoke pot"...."This place serves the best (insert mexican dish) in town"...."Not a lot of people know about it"...."I never go to Wal-Mart"...."Shop local"..."That's Austin for ya".
Man-SHACK! "A second office, called Manchac (a French work meaning a strait, a pass, or a rivulet), ... post office, now spelled Manchaca (pronounced "Manshack")." Formerly, yet briefly it was spelled Manchac, and the pronunciation stuck. Not exactly anglicanized.
@taylormc15@jmysl1 I lived there too!! from 2007-2008. My old roommates and I recognized it for the same reasons! the kitchen and fireplace!! so hilarious
@knotightul, really,? "there's usually a lot more bats," "I hear Stevy Ray Vaughn ate here," "It's pronounced (May-ner),etc." can be said anywhere? I think not.
@ jetwarrior I believe Lubbock is a better fit for LA Dumbfaces and Johnny Dallas they actually need a Razzoo's. I will never leave Austin, but I will protect it from all who try to ruin it.
You forgot: "Dude, the Frost Tower was totally built by the Illuminiati" - "But I LIKE being single right now" - "I'm looking for a job as a video game designer" - "Um, you know that Tamale House doesn't make tamales, right?" - "I heard that like, 1 out of 4 people in this town have herpes" - "This is the worst queso EVER" - "Yeah, my band's playing South-By, Tuesday, 10 AM, Amy's Ice Cream" - "I knew about roller derby before there WAS roller derby" - "This tap water smells like turtles"
I think all the hipsters should move to Yorktown, TX. The haunted hospital was featured on Ghost Hunters, and they have a place that serves pizza now.
@worthless420 Uh, last time we were in Lubbock, there were a lot of dust storms, douchebags, and a lot of people with the same voice as the comic book guy from The Simpsons, talking about how bad the music scene has gotten.
@themex Yeaaah... as someone who was born here... this is more like 'shit you'd hear from those californians who moved in here about 15 years ago and never left'
@KestralWolfe I was born here too, this is cliche for a reason; otherwise people wouldn't really get it. So quit acting like one of those "Californians" and get over your douche bag self.
@KestralWolfe I was also born and raised in Austin and I thought this was hilarious. I think that you are being slightly pretentious. Are you from North Austin...?
