Seems like the Catholics are worried about Jeffersons poem. There must be 3/4 Catholic responses on here. The Bible says that there is one God and one mediator between God and man-the man Christ Jesus. Jesus is the only means of Salvation. Religion will not save you. His entire poem is about how we, our society, twisted religion into a legalistic hypocrasy and how we need to free ourselves from it. Remember, he bashes FALSE religion, not TRUE religion. Now God only offers GRACE and there is now no works based/performance based system to re-attach yourself to God with. No works you can do, only the work that Jesus Christ did and your trust in that is what makes one right with God today.
Now however as described in the book of Galatians: There is neither Jew nor Greek. God is now not dealing with a specific chosen people and their performance based program. The middle wall of partition (also called the circumcision) is down.
The meaning of the word religion is to reattach or rebind. Look at the word: comprised of "re" and "ligion" the root and meaning is that of our word ligament. Through rituals and works, re-ligion, re-attaches man to God. The Israelites agreed to such a works based program when they agreed to their God given law contract.

I think he doesn't understand what the purpose of the "I hate religion, but love Jesus" video is. The purpose of the original was not saying that we didn't need church, it was saying that Christianity is a relationship with God, not just a set of rules or requirements. The connotation of religion today is something that people do to feel good about themselves, based on a set of rules and requirements.
@mikeyjz93 Jesus said the two most improtant commandments are love the one true God and no other gods and love your neighbour as yourself. Religion helps us with their rules and requirements to live these commandments until we actually become that love relationship between God and neighbour. Once you truely love God and neighbour, rules and requirements are no longer needed. So religion has a useful purpose up to a point.

There are as many teaching of what people think Jesus and the Father taught as there are people with their own opinions. So how do we protect ourselves from false teachings? A Catholic never judges any person's eternal destiny as we know we are not God, and God is the judge. We believe if you have invincible ignorance about sin, Christ, and His Church, than you will make it. We also believe Our Lord gives everyone an opportunity to repent at the last moments of life. The image of Jesus Christ is merely a remembrance, not an object of worship. We can do so because He came, existed and we now know how He looked. Before one could not paint that which he did not/could not see, now we can -- except God the Father -- and The Holy Spirit can be seen as a Dove or Fire.

Seems like the Catholics are worried about Jeffersons poem. There must be 3/4 Catholic responses on here. The Bible says that there is one God and one mediator between God and man-the man Christ Jesus. Jesus is the only means of Salvation. Religion will not save you. By "you're on the 2nd", I meant that Miko seems to be arguing against Jefferson because he thinks Jefferson is bashing the 2nd, true religion. "A poem I wrote to highlight the difference between Jesus and false religion." That's directly from Jefferson's comments. The whole time Jefferson has been arguing against false religion, but Miko is arguing against Jefferson as if he was talking about God's law (the 2nd). Does that make sense?

His entire poem is about how we, our society, twisted religion into a legalistic hypocrasy and how we need to free ourselves from it. Remember, he bashes FALSE religion, not TRUE religion. And I think that "false religion" is an adequate description of what he describes because it actually is a falsification of religion. Hope you'll see my points

But most of the catholic Saints loved first and foremost like Jesus commanded. But glorifying these people is wrong, pray to Jesus only. It's fine to hate sin but realise that as religion is a human creation it will be inherently flawed and sinful. Instead look to what is beyond religion; the only perfect thing: God.

You can talk about Mother Theresa and those saints all you want but until you have that Jesus in your heart it won't be going anywhere. I love Jesus Christ, he's changed my life and saved me. The saints, the virgin mary, or mother theresa has not done that. I don't need to go to confession to talk about my problems with God, nor do i need rosary beads.. i need an open heart and love for Christ. Those are the books we should be majoring in if you will and minoring in the rest which are to the Jews but are for us contextually. There is no religion now that God honors or excepts. God has now extended the invitation to be right with him to all people and not through works but through something much greater. Now God only offers GRACE and there is now no works based/performance based system to re-attach yourself to God with. No works you can do, only the work that Jesus Christ did and your trust in that is what makes one right with God today.

I think he doesn't understand what the purpose of the "I hate religion, but love Jesus" video is. The purpose of the original was not saying that we didn't need church, it was saying that Christianity is a relationship with God, not just a set of rules or requirements. The connotation of religion today is something that people do to feel good about themselves, based on a set of rules and requirements.

@mikeyjz93 Jesus said the two most improtant commandments are love the one true God and no other gods and love your neighbour as yourself. Religion helps us with their rules and requirements to live these commandments until we actually become that love relationship between God and neighbour. Once you truely love God and neighbour, rules and requirements are no longer needed. So religion has a useful purpose up to a point.

There are as many teaching of what people think Jesus and the Father taught as there are people with their own opinions. So how do we protect ourselves from false teachings? One way is to follow the teachings of the religion that follows the teachings of the early church. To rely on our own personal interpretations of Scriptures is to make God into our own image.

A Catholic never judges any person's eternal destiny as we know we are not God, and God is the judge. We believe if you have invincible ignorance about sin, Christ, and His Church, than you will make it. We also believe Our Lord gives everyone an opportunity to repent at the last moments of life. It will be difficult to repent tho if you've always hated Him.

the first post was saying it's not about anything but Jesus and He is the Church. When believers come together they are the church in a building to gather. He was saying if you are trying to follow all these do's and do nots to make it but have no love, that's religion and Jesus called it a viper. Love Jesus, and be in a relationship with Him! me: We need the Churches. God ordained it Jesus died to be it and the Holy Spirit empowers it, When u come together He is in the mist and all His gifts.

I do not belong to a religious group and have been taught by the Holy Spirit through the word for 30 yrs.Jesus Himself ordained Paul to start the Churches. Brother how can you ignore the whole new testiment? Acts on to Rev. teaches the building of the Church.

We can worship and be one with Jesus at any given time. But the buildings are more reverent. Please stop the false accusations towards us. @marteepee80 Yes, in the Old Testament, before the Jesus Christ came, it was idolatry to worship a statue, even if it was the One God because they did not know what God looked like. The image of Jesus Christ is merely a remembrance, not an object of worship. We can do so because He came, existed and we now know how He looked. Before one could not paint that which he did not/could not see, now we can -- except God the Father -- and The Holy Spirit can be seen as a Dove or Fire.
