Uli is not the fastest guitar player out there, but he's definitely the most emotional one. Listened to Galneryus' cover of this tune, Syu is great, but he's many leagues below Uli. I actually love power metal, I'm pretty fond of Timo Tolkki's or Kai Hansen/Michael Weikath's playing, but nah, Uli just kicks some major asses - without even trying to do so. Uli the best.
@jasamheadquake He is a very gifted guitarist, but I never liked so much his vocals. I saw in in concert early 80's with electric sun it was terrific ! Today I think his career should has been better...
@ploermel56490 lol but who on the earth listens to Uli for vocals anyway? ;) his career... nah, he himself said that his "career" is a sort of a personal journey, and that he does his music because it's the best way he could express himself - and that if someone else things he could do better, he's willing to let them have a shot... xD
during the years with the scorpions uli was fuckin great then i listend to this electric sun stuff and i couldnt believe my ears ,I didnt care for it to say the least
Totally agree with 'jeffygpictures'. Jimi Hendrix influenced him so much, including the facial expression. A Great German influenced by a African American. Excuse my words, I'm not a racism. He should employ a singer like Michael Schenker, then he would be much more selling records than MSG.
uli was certainly influenced by jimi hendrix but who wasn't ? i think however that he has his own style and he is a great musician and guitarist , stop to allways compare one to another , each guitarist has his own way to play , that's what i think
its great how everyone wants to compare everybody else to hendrix. influence is a great thing, but i guess anybody who started playining guitar after hendrix died should have gave it up? music is a beautiful thing no matter what.
well I can uderstand your comment but if it comes down to everybody giving it up after such influences had die I believe we wouldn't have 98% of the music we have today, like the Stones,Beatles etc. because they all were influenced by the root of the old blues players, singers etc!
the true pioneers! even Hendrix was influenced by it,it's just too bad he never saw what he had in his hands & had been chosen to be,so unfortunate!
but at least it's great to see that there are musicians that as a respect to those guitar heroes that were taken away so soon have opted to pay tribute to them in their own way & by not meaning to pretend to be better or outplay them but to honor them!
First time hearing Uli. My guitar teacher recommended him. He's pretty good. I still like a few guitarists better than him, though. Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Buck Dharma to name a few.
Thanks for posting this! Even the albums are hard to get hold of. Are the Electric Sun albums or concert footages released on CD or DVD (the only one I've found is "Beyond the Astral Skies")?
Interesting choices! My favorite (rock) guitarists are Uli, Adrian Vandenberg, and Gary Moore. The list of guys I like or admire is pretty long, though...
Look for their first album or his work with Manic Eden. Unfortunately, most of his other work is generic poppy hard rock. If you search through Youtube, you'll find many live performances of Adrian in Whitesnake too, altough not all of them are great.
I admire Adrian Vandenberg's playing quite a lot, but I still prefer John Sykes. A LOT.
Malmsteen repeats all day long, half way it burns you out, when Malmsteen was learning his chops he was learning it from Uli Roth ,RitchieBlackmore & Al Dimeola!!
I thought old Malmsteen with Alcatrazz was pretty decent. He actually had some soul back then and wasn't just playing notes. Now he's pure garbage though sadly.

The sky guitar is cool and all but I sure dug it more when he was using the Strat. I simply just preferred the tone he had back then.

i think his playing on Firewind (the album) is even better than during his time
with the Scorpions.
to me Firewind is a classic
