For any beginners who want to try one like this, I'd do 3 things a little differently:
1. Insert tail center for better support & probably less vibration
2. Wear a face shield in case she blows apart or throws a chunk of bark.
3. You can turn the bowl gouge right over on its side, and use a push cut across the tip, instead of the "back cut" on the wings, shown here. This is an excellent way to do this for more experienced turners like DRJ, but is not as good for newbies.
