Just think, this being the last song on War, and Brian Eno listening to it in considering working for them for the Unforgettable Fire production. Quite a fitting indicator of things to come, as was Scarlet on October.
A fan will recognize their genius through out the years. I don't draw the way I did in 1979 or 1991 or 2001 and don't expect those guys from Dublin to sound the same either.
I find it inspiring that they continue to grow in reinvent themselves.
everything up to Joshua Tree was amazing. The evolving sound after JT including rattle and hum set the stage for commercialism for the band which has never been more obvious than today...Should U2 have to tour for free? no..should they have to donate all of their the proceeds from concerts to charity? no, should they have to stay in Ireland with when they can save on publishing taxation in England? ..no...but please $150 plus dollars tickets in 100k seat arenas...PURE F EN GREED!!!
Every good song U2 is great. i'm not saying that every song is amazing, but the greatest of their songs are individually the best in their own ways... if you get what i mean.
I CALL THIS EVOLUTION,80'S HAVE PASSED MY FRIEND,WE LIVE THE 00'S.Ok Get On Your Boots wasn't the best choice for the first single, but No Line On The Horizon is Better from The Unforgettable Fire by far.
Nope. The largest grossing tour of the 90's belongs to the Rolling Stones. N'Sync and the Eagles also had big tours in the nineties. What's your point? That a lot of people are willing to shell out their hard-earned cash for crap? Point taken.
U2 of the 80's = thought-provoking, emotionally driven music.
U2 of the 90's and Oh's = commercially produced, tinsel-wrapped crap. Take any song from Zooropa and swap it for any song from Pop, and you won't be able to tell the difference.
U2 always try to keep ticket prices down, lastime round ticket master wanted to add 40 euro to tickets in dublin, bono kicked up, wanted prices kept down, for pure effect Pop mart and Zootv were huge, Stones aren't woth their ticket prices and I dont agree with ur thoughts on the U2 of the 90's and 00's, when they release an album/single, everyone has an opion, when was the last time the stones had a hit single or album??
What in the world are you talking about? What do ticket prices have anything to do with anything? And who said I liked the Rolling Stones?
If you're so concerned about ticket prices, stick to your local clubs. The bands there are reeeelly cheap.
Everyone has an opinion about scratching your ass in public too. So what? Stick to the subject, man. U2's music was far more thought provoking in the 80's. Boy. October. War. Nowadays it's pop. That pretty much says it all.
ticket prices affect takings, you said the stones had the biggest grossing tour of the ninties only due to having higher priced tickets, i had commented on u2 tours zootv and pop mart being the biggest of the ninties, they were in scale and i'd love to get actual figures of attendances, we had different opions and thats it .
I agree with you rofyle. U2 were at their peak in the 80s. For me "The Unforgettable Fire" is their best album. As you said by the 90s they were shit. That new single "Get On Your Boots" is horrible.
It's a shame U2 have went downhill to the point of no return...
I am a huge u2 fan, so I kinda tend to disagree with negative things people have to say about them; however, i think youre onto something. U2 of the 80s is very different from their 90s and 00s stuff. BUT I completely disagree that their 90s and 00s are crap, as you say. Achtung baby, released in '91, was praised as one of the best U2 albums. It is my favorite one, and has some genius songs. But they sound very different from songs in Boy, War, October...which is maybe the reason you dislike it.
Achtung, Baby might have been critically praised, but so what. Half of Joshua Tree had already marked the beginning of U2's foray into commercialism. Prior to JT and everything after, they were a band with a purpose and a mission, to promote peace. Their home country was being torn apart by war. Now, nearly everything they do is commercial, and is done strictly for cash flow.
Yeah i kinda think that the experimenting in the 90s was a bit didgy, BUT if they had of continued to make stuff like their 80s releases, then wed probably all be sick of them by now
Thats what makes U2 great, they constantly evolving not like those other dinosaur bands that stay stagnant and become a karaoke gig. U2 still can release fresh music that can still attract new & younger fans.
thats what happened to me man, i grew up listening to u2 because of my dad and i liked them but when i became pro i listened to them musically i completely fell in love with the band and they are my biggest influence now and thats the best thing that ever happened to me as a musician cause i am writting way better and meaningful songs! thanks u2 lol
@7franny7 I'm not saying you should do these things.. LOL. What I mean to say is that someone posted a comment about "subliminal messages" U2 show on the back screen at times during their live performances like "Everything you know is wrong" and "Watch more T.V." and I was commenting on that by saying "Gotta love U2's subtle subliminal messages! haha." Hope that makes more sense! Sorry about the confusion! haha
Psalm 40 I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, Out of the miry clay... I will sing, sing a new song How I long to sing this song He set my feet upon a rock, And made my footsteps firm. Many will see, Many will see and fear
this is awesome, a man of faith thats why they succeed as a group!! U2 the best band ever !!!!!!!!!!!! bono ,bono he's our man if he can't do it no one can !! hahaha
Loved how they used to end all of thier shows with this.
Like cadillac seats U2 and I go way back. Loved Boy, War and Josha Tree was a masteriece. They have had some wonderfull hits since too

Psalm 40, verse 1-3:
I waited patiently for Yahweh.
He turned to me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit,
Out of the miry clay.
He set my feet on a rock,
And gave me a firm place to stand. He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God.
Many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in Yahweh.
Btw, U2 rocks :D

@u2joshuadesireu U2 *is* music! It is a shame many younger artists couldn't pick a group like these gentlemen to emulate.
