hey i want to do that with a ford 3000? its supposedly @40pto hp and 35 engine. Looks a lot like yours. Is that thing cutting clean all the way through at that speed? awesome. Show us a raking and baling video??
Don;t sound too healthy, pto shaft rattling, needs new knife and guards, but these were a good machine on the back of a Ford 5000 Major with high speed pto that let the tractor run at just a fast idle.
My grandfather had a Ford sickle bar like this many years ago...........ran it on an NAA Ford.....worked fine.....only part replaced was the pitman rod, and I think he made his own out of oak.
I don't think you sickle bar should be vibrating so much and grass it getting caught in the mower try adjusting you cutter clearance where the grass cuts and falls over
i was doing the same thing yesterday with a 78 ford 2600 and a fingerbar mower that hasnt been used in about 15 years. it worked perfect. they were such a simple design!
Yeah this one hadn't been used in over 10 and I just greased it and it worked like new! Yeah, this is a 501, I wish it was a 511 with the wobble box though. Thanks!
Wow thanks for sharing this, I never seen one behind a tractor before. I know an older gentleman maybe in his 60's that has one and uses it often but he uses it with horses he does have a tractor and bachhoe but says he loves working with horses better , I think they are called shirpe, sorry dont know much about horses except his horses are huge they are black and have like white fur around their feet. again ty for sharing 5 star
Your welcome! You don't see them as often any more. Yeah I like working with horses, but tractors are faster and less stubborn! Haha, yeah. Probably Shire horses. Thanks!
It's true you don't see horses as much although there still some that work with em and I don't blame them if the price of fuel goes insane again park the tractor and take out the horses heheh. I didn't want to reply back to your comment until i was sure about his horses, yeah they are shires. they are frigging huge I am 6'1 and i can't see over some of their backs The older gentlemen showed me some pics of him a long time ago plowing with 12 horses on a 4 furrow plow looked impressive too
Its really well designed. Shows you don't need computers and robots for everything. It has a safety latch and if you hit something with the bar the whole thing can rotate to where its almost straight behind the tractor and still run. If you look at 0:07 you can see the hinge. If you hit something small but hard that gets between the teeth (like a solid steel rod or something) there is a little ball that the push rod clamps onto the blade and it will simply release and stop running.
Yeah just mowing trash around my house. We already got the first cutting of alfalfa done a few days ago. I can't remember how many but it was 2XX mid-size square bales and 7XX small square bales. cut, raked, baled, stacked. Sold every last one of the small bales and about 50 big bales in less than 24 hours haha.
