US cars, especially our V8's, are of course faster than Japanese cars because the Japanese are about efficiency. Japanese make a 1.6 L B16 for the Civic that puts out over 160 hp, more than 100hp per liter. They had a horsepower limit for many years of 280ps. Believe me, if they made a 6.0 liter V8 car, it'd put out no less than 600 hp stock, it's just that to them a big gas guzzling engine is pointless.
A 5.0 mustang for example, most definitely does not put out 500hp stock, not even 400. Japanese technology is more advanced than ours. American cars may own the strip and be the fastest for now, but if the Japanese wanted they could out do us. Notice the AMERICAN cars aren't selling and constantly getting bailed out? From what I could see, the Cuda picked up speed OUT of the corner and passed the imports. If you want to suggest a heavier car has a better cornering speed then a lighter car with a similarly tuned suspensions for the track, then I'm sorry your just wrong.
BTW 525hp out of a 340 is a RACE BUILT engine I have no beef with race built hi revving engines. 12.0 compression and 8K rpms is what it would take to make that kind of power on a 340 N/A. Stock your lucky to see 330hp lets get real!
My friend filmed that. And talked to the owner. The Barracuda is really going threw the corner with more MPH.He actually has to time the passes because you can't pass in corners on track day.This Barracuda(2700lbs)has a wider track width and wider tires,makes higher corner speeds. The 340, with stroker crank puts this engine at 396ci.While definitely not a stock engine, it is still not a RACE MOTOR! This engine probably maxes out at 7k RPMs and runs on pump gas so has about 10.5 to 1 compression
From what I have read, the 68 Cuda and its 340V8 engine was designed for road racing speed and handling. The engine was built for abuse from what I can tell, and looks potentally like 9K rpm capable with the right build. This combo of power and handeling capabilities was special to the 68 Baraccuda.

Research Scott Harvey Jr. He won an International RALLY in a 67 Cuda. Basically developed the Formula S package while he worked for Chrysler. A package you could apply to ANY Mopar. Stock Parts.

You are correct, except Ford had it's Shelby Mustangs, And GM had Yenko built Camaro's and AMC had there AMX's. But the 68 Barracuda was better, but never factory funded. The B18C-5's reliability and durability SPEAKS FOR ITSSELF. Its expensive if you were trying to build a 9 second Civic. BECAUSE if that was your goal you would get the LS motor WITH a B16 head and boost that. Its CHEAPER, its lower compression, OR you could get a B20 bottom with a GSR head and boost that. The reason I got the REAL type R enigne the Legendary B18C-5 is ONLY because I wanted Perfection. Not a hack job for less but the the REAL DEAL. This is by far the most durable honda makes.
Yeah, if I wanted a RWD car, my price range would be more along the lines of a Nissan 240sx with either a Bluebird swap or a RB26DETT swap (Thats a skyline motor for the less informed)
By the way, for me this is not a import vs. domestics thing. That's childish. It's just a fact, no matter what make or model motor you have. The same type of motor with more displacement will make more HP. And anything you do to the smaller motor you can do to the bigger motor. Newton wrote the laws, and no one can brake the laws of physics. It's just that simple. And a bigger displacement motor making the same hp is not working as hard. I am not aware of any import with 400+hp and a warranty.
im not saying that bigger engines dont produce more hp. im saying that a bigger engine isnt the BEST way to produce more hp. there are more affordable and reliable ways to get 400 hp than to buy a bigblock.

It's in the transportation section. Look for it. They say stay away from the 1.8 as it's to expensive and unreliable to get more HP from it. NOT MY WORDS. From a Honda guy. His advice is so swap in the Biggest displacement VTEC motor you can and build up that motor. HOTRODDING 101. Americans started this in the 40's.

Not taking sides I respect all cars but here's the facts:
US cars, especially our V8's, are of course faster than Japanese cars because the Japanese are about efficiency. Japanese make a 1.6 L B16 for the Civic that puts out over 160 hp, more than 100hp per liter. They had a horsepower limit for many years of 280ps. Believe me, if they made a 6.0 liter V8 car, it'd put out no less than 600 hp stock, it's just that to them a big gas guzzling engine is pointless.

A 5.0 mustang for example, most definitely does not put out 500hp stock, not even 400. Japanese technology is more advanced than ours. American cars may own the strip and be the fastest for now, but if the Japanese wanted they could out do us. Notice the AMERICAN cars aren't selling and constantly getting bailed out? That's a truck engine dude :). The b16 was a performance engine and a J-spec performance v8 would do the same. The b16 and Type R engines are showcases of their technology (Type R B16B 1.6 L 180 hp, Type R B18C5 1.8L 200 hp).
Oh, and I hope you don't mind a burnt up clutch in your imaginary fake mustang, that's IF the old ford powertrain/drivetrain could even handle the 150 shot?

Search youtube for "stunteric". Watch "poor little lotus". In the video you will see a N/A Barracuda close to stock. Rebuilt 340ci making 525hp. Lowered F spindles. Stiffer front torsion bar, anti-sway bars and subframe conecters. It literally BLOW the doors off a Lotus Exige and a 2001(?) Acura. The Acura is a club road course car. Gutted and lightened, carbonfiber hood and track tuned suspension mods and engine race tuned. The Barracuda passes the Lotus that is passing the Acura.

So true the imports spend to much money on body kits and that bull shit and forget about power If you took a evo8 with 900 hp at wheels and put it up against a challenger with 600 hp at wheels the challenger would kick ass with out the extra 300 hp and the turbos. All imports do is hit high rpms and the only this that is good for is cutting lawns!!!!!

There is a big difference in Stock and race engines of all makes. A BMW stock engine & HP is nowhere near the same as a stock BMW race engine & HP. Or ANY OTHER manufacture for that matter. Very few stock engines are 500hp or more. There are some. But almost ANY engine can be built to make over 500hp

Why is it so hard to understand, its Hp/displacement (volumetric effiency) that ultimately gives clarity to which is a race engine and which is not. At what displacement does it take to make 500hp 5.0L for BMW! that is the question. Race engines are 8K rpms and nearly 100 hp/liter MINIMUM! RACE engines are built with strict rules which limits displacement for the class they are in. Thus, increased effiency is demanded. Emissions limits the capacity of hp/displacement in street legal cars.

Its really very simple, Honda makes the best 4 cylinder engines in the world, the likes of which has NEVER been seen. These Type R's are MY GENERATIONS sports car. You say stock for stock but you use cars who's displacement tripples its competition. Whats the point to brag about that? actually, if you are a big fan of muscle...a 69 camaro will cost you anywhere from (poor condition) 15k to (mint) around 60k.
I'm a fan of imports, but i appreciate old school muscle, not none of this new american recycled bullshit...so i know a little bit.
a fully build ls-vtec with all full race turbo goodies... a maxxed out at 20k...12 second car ONLY because it keeps on snapping the axles, and cant catch traction. Which brings me to the conclusion: why so fast, if there's no handling?

Once you open the door to modification Displacement wins. So you ignorant import guys changed the topic to road racing. No prob, I posted a video with a 40yo car spanking imports on a road coarse. I checked out a bunch of "touge battles", rolling start road coarse. You can gut a 68 Cuda, cage it, 4 adjustable coilovers, 14 inch Wilwood, RMS Rack tube K and 4 link rear. Ritter all Alum 750hp R5 motor. 2500lbs car. It would be cheaper then the cars I saw touge. Now you have a car that would rip in touge. We have hill climb here!

No, you "hate" knowing that an FF powered car with a 4th the displacement of a 429; has a double wishbone suspension (used by formula 1) and an F2 racing coil over suspension which gives the car a close to 50/50 feel because of the dynamics and benefits of low and wide stanced, light weight cars. It not only performs like a 302cuin powered car BUT it also gets much better gas mileage.The 1.8L Formula 4 powered beast ALL MOTOR in the 12's. You "hate" this "knowledge" so you "mock" it.

You dont know your history now do you? A REAL Boss 302 raps out to 9k rpms. A REAL race engine has GOOD volumetric effiency. The REAL Mugen Formula 4 RACE ENGINE is the B18C-5 the SAME engine powering MY Civic. A REAL race suspension is double wishbone. A REAL race car is light weight.
Typical, you cant argue performance so you attack authenticity, Im a step ahead of you every post son.
Your limited understanding of reality is a big truck motor, powering a solid rear axle FR car.

You have to get Stronger CV's, stronger or rebuild the Sh*t out of the tranny. Stronger cluch. All those part will brake, I've seen it to often. And Rebuild the engine so it wont POP! You know, there are SOOO many people who are interested in making 800 and 1000 hp cars these days. Or is it there are many millions of people who are looking for fuel effiecent cars these days. Well, I get Ford Mustang performance with Ford Focus MPG. All in one wonderfully built HONDA! If I was worried about making a 800hp car I might just build a K24 MONSTER! From what I could see, the Cuda picked up speed OUT of the corner and passed the imports. If you want to suggest a heavier car has a better cornering speed then a lighter car with a similarly tuned suspensions for the track, then I'm sorry your just wrong.
BTW 525hp out of a 340 is a RACE BUILT engine I have no beef with race built hi revving engines. 12.0 compression and 8K rpms is what it would take to make that kind of power on a 340 N/A. Stock your lucky to see 330hp lets get real!

My friend filmed that. And talked to the owner. The Barracuda is really going threw the corner with more MPH.He actually has to time the passes because you can't pass in corners on track day.This Barracuda(2700lbs)has a wider track width and wider tires,makes higher corner speeds. The 340, with stroker crank puts this engine at 396ci.While definitely not a stock engine, it is still not a RACE MOTOR! This engine probably maxes out at 7k RPMs and runs on pump gas so has about 10.5 to 1 compression

From what I have read, the 68 Cuda and its 340V8 engine was designed for road racing speed and handling. The engine was built for abuse from what I can tell, and looks potentally like 9K rpm capable with the right build. This combo of power and handeling capabilities was special to the 68 Baraccuda.
NOT the typical Muscle. It would take a Boosted 240sx, or Built K20 Civic Hatch, hell maybe a Supra, even a early model RB32 to match the performance. This car was ahead of its time.

If I was to match a Supra or a RB32 against the Lotus or Acura in that video there would be NO bragging rights whats so ever. In the same token a built 68 Cuda vs thoes cars offers no bragging rights. Now if you had a 64Cuda with a stock engine doing that, then props to the guy who built that car. Otherwise, kick the boost up on the competition for a more fair Power to weight and then see what happens. Ill stick to my imports ultimately they offer greater appeal to me, Type R or no car for me.

The Barracuda Formula S package you learned about, came out in 65. The 2nd year of the Barracuda. Weighs the same if not less then the rebodied 67-69 Cuda. The 273 Commando motor was a road race developed motor also. True no as powerful as the 340. But VERY potent for what "we" call a little engine. Research Scott Harvey Jr. He won an International RALLY in a 67 Cuda. Basically developed the Formula S package while he worked for Chrysler. A package you could apply to ANY Mopar. Stock Parts.

The biggest innovations came from the late 60's early 70's. Thats not to say there were no innovations left to make. Honda picked up the torch in the 70's and continued to kick out new technologies and higher better made cars. Thats why I like the 68 Cuda, and the Boss 302. They represent the best of an era.
In the same token Type R's represent the best of the late 90's early turn of the century. Today's stuff. The 68 Cuda is like a 97 NSX Type S, and the 98 Integra Type R the best of a kind

Only in 70 when they came late into the game (TransAm) and left after the year because the money was being spent in NASCAR and NHRA. Also the 1st gas crunch was soon to come. The line drawn from Honda F1 technology and Honda's Type R technology is a clear and real line. If you want to suggest there is a difference between F1 and Type R suspension then you are correct. But if you want to say double wishbone suspension on a type R is marketing alone, then you are truly just splitting hairs. and for the record I have F2 coil over gas struts. Honda's independent double wishbone suspension on their Type R's DO improve cornering and handling. The concept born of F1.

The B18C-5's reliability and durability SPEAKS FOR ITSSELF. Its expensive if you were trying to build a 9 second Civic. BECAUSE if that was your goal you would get the LS motor WITH a B16 head and boost that. Its CHEAPER, its lower compression, OR you could get a B20 bottom with a GSR head and boost that. The reason I got the REAL type R enigne the Legendary B18C-5 is ONLY because I wanted Perfection. Not a hack job for less but the the REAL DEAL. This is by far the most durable honda makes.

By the way, for me this is not a import vs. domestics thing. That's childish. It's just a fact, no matter what make or model motor you have. The same type of motor with more displacement will make more HP. And anything you do to the smaller motor you can do to the bigger motor. Newton wrote the laws, and no one can brake the laws of physics. It's just that simple. And a bigger displacement motor making the same hp is not working as hard. I am not aware of any import with 400+hp and a warranty.

Since I've been posting on here, I have done some research. Flipping through Tuner magazines and even read a book in Borders that's all about race tuning your Honda. It's in the transportation section. Look for it. They say stay away from the 1.8 as it's to expensive and unreliable to get more HP from it. NOT MY WORDS. From a Honda guy. the b18 is a GREAT engine. expensive? unreliable? not as expensive or unreliable as a corvette engine. fast? not as fast, but pretty damn close stock for stock. ive raced a iroc camero (the one with the vette engine) and i kept up using a stock k20.

Funny thing is, Im more disapointed in your simple lack of the truth, and your insistant denial of the truth when it is given to you. Yet because, I speak the truth you do not believe me. It does not fit into your little box of reality that you seem to have shoved yourself in to. If only you knew a little better OR could recognize the truth when it is presented to you. The only thing unreliable about the B18 type R is boosting more then 11psi on HI COMPRESSION, Supposed to be an ALL MOTOR engine

AND, you did not answer my question. Yes larger displacement has more potential to make more power, its not rocket science.
If there is one thing I can get through to you is simply this, with EVERY (so-called) disadvantage possible 4 cylinders, FWD, AND smaller displacement. You've still got a fast car that runs down Mustangs, 350Z'z,
S2000, RX8's STI's AND gets 34mpg or so!
Name ONE gasoline powered car that can do these things, I can name ONE! 97 Civic B18 Type R swap. Get some!

You can get as much as 280hp ALL MOTOR from this beast with bolt-ons and a cam. Find me ANY MOTOR IN THE WORLD at 11 compression AND 11psi of boost. Yes, 280hp out of a 1.8L motor on a 2500lb car makes it a 12 second car! Nothing more then CAMS, HONDATA, AND BOLTONS! (Ok, port the head too)
