  • "You couldn't take this case to an American court and win." How prescient. Why more couldn't see that has always amazed me. To call Tim Russert a journalist is an insult to anyone with a shred of credibility in the profession. What a joke! "When you look at Saddam Hussein, do you think he's a threat? Do you think he has chemical or biological weapons?" A credible journalist would've asked where is the proof that justifies launching a full-fledged invasion of another country. What a hack!

  • It's amazing how wrong Thompson was in that Bush stopped Iraq from destroying the US with all those weapons if mass destruction and then removing the national debt and fixing the economy bringing about an era of unprecedented prosperity.

  • Hunter predicted a radical cocksucker like Bush back in 1969 and said that someone like nixon will pale in comparison to a future prospect of a nation getting crazier.

  • With Hunter you just have to let him go and the truth will out,"a generation" yip he was right again

  • 2 great people gone but noy forgotten

  • They're both dead now....I'd love to see a life after death visit between these two...

  • the man had a theory that would end up true..spot on....

  • He predicted it all,as he always did.He was like a political Nostradamus.

  • prophesy

  • a "generation"? Sir you are right! this generation will get what it deserves too. What comes around goes around you stupid fucks.

  • Bush was perhaps the worse president we've ever had. He drove the car into the ditch and we are stuck. Obama is not such a bad president for an inexperienced guy. Ron Paul is the best we've got in the running right now. Far from perfect but again he's the only one who can drive us out of the ditch.

  • mass immigration is destroying the west

  • @knightschwartz mass immigration IS the west - where did your ancestors come from?

  • Why is there errors posting messages NOW? Damn YT

  • Terrible UHF reception, eh? I'd point out that Who'd Controlling What in Washington, who is the best LEADER is an issue we see with President Obama still, that people have the lowest opinion on Government in ages, Thompson hits the nail on the head

  • Damn. He called it all before it happened.

  • Hunter knew where we were going. Into the dark abyss. That's why I think he decided to, at that time, to say goodbye with a shotgun

  • The drugs had done their damage by this time... A brilliant mind of our time done in by too many drugs. His mind was fried. Listen to him in 1968 and compare to this... sad.

  • @beelzabubba What video were you watching? He's a senior citizen at this point. I see scores of senior citizens everyday and the tempo of they're conversations are in the same neighborhood. Just because he's not firing off 100 words a minute, he's fried? Thompson say's what he means to say. Which requires taking the time to choose his word wisely, as to not be easily taken out of context. Thompson was well composed.

  • @bSublime187 100% agreed. He was so physically ill at this point, that it's a miracle he spoke as well as he did.

  • i love when hunter speaks like this...

this is why i love him. he is fucking crazy and yet he knows more about the world that most "sane" people.

the world needs you so much right now Hunter. you left too soon..

but you.. you will always be loved and remembered. i hope generations to come learn from you as i have.

  • @FEARandLOATHINGgirl i believe future generations will as long as we keep the word alive now. and turn on new people. other then people who like fear and loathing in las vegas. . or the rum diarys. . HOWEVER; that is a place to start. with the people who only know of raoul duke. .or like him because of those movies

  • @theeturnone Fear & Loathing is what made me fall in love with him. Then I craved more Gonzo and went to Where the Buffalo Roam. After that I was hooked and read The Rum Diary (this was years before the movie). I've watched every single documentary made about him. I've most recently watched The Rum Dairy, but didn't care for it too much. I am working my way through The Proud Highway now.

I wish everyone who enjoyed the movies took the next step too. He has so much wisdom to share.

  • 2 men that died TOO early

  • I admire and love Thompson, but the case against the war could have been made much better than the case he makes here. So interesting to look at this from 2011, when we now know and acknowledge what a mistake and tragedy the BS wars are and were.

  • Some never live, the crazy never die ------------Long live the Good Doctor

  • I had to look up the date in the description to see which Bush and which Iraq war was being talked about.

  • I love his ability to be so intelligent while seeming so crazy. His craziness certainly matched his intelligence

  • The whole Iraq thing just seems so ridiculous now.

  • Damn, I miss this guy.

  • looking back 10 years later... it's scary how right hunter was o.O r.i.p gonzo

  • One

    Big

    Ass

    Mistake

    America

  • @RadioheadaphexZappa Better than the other guy, and the guy before him

  • @TheCrisisKings That isn't saying much.

  • bush blood

  • was he still doing coke in his later years? anyone know?

  • this is what being smarter than anyone around looks like.

  • I can't understand half of what he is saying

  • both of these guys were killed by the illuminati, russert was hit with a shellfish gun, and thompson was shot twice in the head with a shotgun.

suicides didnt know take 2 shots

  • @ChilloutSessionZ Yeah. HST was killed by a single .45 cal. gunshot to the head. The bullet lodged in the ceiling of his office. His wife was in the next room.

  • @creamyapanties did you do it?

  • @ChilloutSessionZ No. He did it himself. 15 minutes after his son Juan and his wife left Woody Creek. Hunter always asked obsessively about the condition of the car, the tires, and the brakes. he had a paranoia about cars getting stuck in the middle of nowhere just as a global cataclysm or something occurred. Juan left, Hunter went into his office, sent a fax to the Editor of Rolling Stone, typed a few lines (mainly "this won't hurt) then put the gun in his mouth and fired.

  • Despite the drug taking in his early years, he still has an amazing wit & insight. Only thing is he has this difficulty to breathe which might have been a result of smoking for 50 yrs. I'm only guessing but didn't Hunter take his own life due to respiratory illness?

  • @maccermacnab read 'The Jokes Over' by Ralph Steadman.

  • @maccermacnab he was just old and he'd had enough of his slow descent into gradually poorer and poorer health and finally said that's it

  • tim russert sucks.

  • It's shamful to watch Tim Russert as a chearleader for Bush's bullshit war.

  • "this is a war we will be bogged down in for a generation" prediction come true. we need another hunter s thompson, but no one like this man will ever exist again

  • i love how he called him 'dr.' at the end of that

  • The prescient nature of HST's observations seem unreal. In the age of information, it is important to know the facts, while carefully examining the producer of these facts. The issue Russert asserts several times (the prime arguments for the second Iraq war), have never been fully examined openly and with recourse. Who gave W the info? who did they get it from? CIA might as well stand for Curiously Invisible Agency.

  • Which Pixel is Hunter?

  • ...zoginated

  • HD?

  • A great testament to what a great free-thinker Thompson was, and what a mediocre, mindless cog Russert was.

  • @foolchild0

lol I was just thinking the same, russert is a tool, what a shitty journalist.

  • @foolchild0 His peers didn't think so. Neither did his audience, or the bulk of his interviewees. But YOUR opinion obviously holds considerably more weight.......LOL!

I'm laughing.....*wipes eye*.....because no one really gives a fuck how you feel about a dead, highly regarded, award winning journalist. It's the curse of being irrelevant, my friend.

  • @creamyapanties Well, obviously you do, or you wouldn't have taken the time to respond, and to vociferously defend Russert. If he's your boyfriend, that's cool, but keep in mind we're in the comments page to a video where he demonstrably gets it wrong on one of the most important stories of the last decade, so you just may be making yourself look kinda stupid. Great to know I'm making a difference! Feel free to share more of your wisdom--I love taking guys like you apart online!

  • @foolchild

Wait. I though YOU were my boyfriend! That IS why you like taking guys like me to a park, right? For a little, "Reader's Digest?" A word to the wise, though; if you bite me or refuse to swallow, I swear I'll crush your trachea with a fanbelt.

  • @creamyapanties THAT'S your brilliant comeback, huh? Think we've seen all we need to see here. Thanks again for your obvious interest in my views. ;)

  • @foolchild I agree. My come on your back does have a certain brilliant sheen, especially when dappled by sunlight. But your views from back there aren't really that interesting.

  • @creamyapanties Truly, you have a dizzying intellect...

  • @foolchild0 To the miniscule mind, even the most basic, slopes of common thought are as unassailable as Mount Everest, and appear just as....."dizzying".

  • @creamyapanties That's showing me.

  • i miss hunter the crazy genius.

  • a SHORT SCATTERED LIST OF MY INSPIRATIONS:

    Hunter S. Thompson

    Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

    Oscar Zeta Acosta

    Bob Dylan

    Michio Kaku

  • @Svitlo37 Wow I really don't give a fuck.

  • @malgrava

You clearly do a little, you went out of youre way to reply you stupid fuck. Go educate yourself, read a book sometime.

  • @Svitlo37 hahahahahahahahaha

  • @Svitlo37 A short list of who gives a shit.

    No one.

  • @Pipthewise1988

Then why are you replying you fucking idiot? Maybe if you read a book or two in your life you'd have better shit running through your head then contradicting yourself talking shit on youtube to strangers.

  • @Svitlo37 I think my reading comprehension is fine. I think your ego is not. I fail to see what I have said to you implies that I do not read, or that it is even a problem if someone does not read. You may need to review the meaning of the word contradiction.

  • I miss both of these intelligent men.

  • even Hunters drug battered brain predicted the finacial crisis

  • 9/11 DID HST

  • I don't like speaking ill of the dead, but Russert ended his career as a shill for the beltway party line.

Thompson had been drunk every day for about forty years before this interview, but he laid out exactly what the questions were that real journalists should have been asking before that invasion.

We sure could use him now.

  • I'm not convinced by any video or book I've read by Hunter S Thompson that he's the genius so many claim he was. He certainly doesn't make especially coherent arguments to support his positions. I'm not saying he's wrong about some of what he's saying, but he's certainly not articulate.

  • @chberry26 cool story, brah.

  • I just have one thing to say "IDIOT!"

  • hunter's suicide was strange, he was one of the first to start talking about gov involvement in 911, he did do drugs but it doesn't matter a lot of people listened to what he had to say.

  • Hunter was smart and leading edge, and most of us can't handle that many drugs nor should we try. He was a prophet and hedonist and a prescient soul... yet he couldnt handle it all, so he blew his brains out. Good for him. He saw his ride coming, and he caught it.

  • I miss Tim Russert at least as much as I miss HST.

  • Honestly, I forgot how bizarre those early 2000s years were in the media...

Just listen to Tim shill for the White House's war effort. The US media still has a lot to answer for the days when it pressed the war agenda unquestioned.

  • we should have elected hunter president when we had the chance

  • Both of these guys are dead :(

  • why does everyone hate bush and like obama. bush is a good man and he did a lot for this country. obama hasnt done anything in office yet.

  • @northwestern578

You go tell the mothers of innocent children that was killed by US terrorism in the middle east that is ok because he was a good man.

  • @adoplussmordi dumbass

  • @northwestern578

You go tell the mothers of innocent children that was killed by US terrorism in the middle east that is ok because Bush is a good man.

  • @northwestern578 sure he has, obummer has spent over a trillion dollars or your money.

  • @northwestern578 Both are a mirror image for each other. Why? They are both puppets, speaking pieces for the Hidden Hand that controls the world. Bush DID A LOT to add to the Depression (not recession) we are in. Once you realize both parties in America are actually working for each other, you will see it. "It" being that all presidents since JFK getting shot have been fake. They don't give a shit about us, never have. Best advice, don't rely on the government!

  • @northwestern578 Wow! Obama has done nothing. Funny considering his biggest detractors accuse him of doing everything from bastardizing the consitution, to brainwashing our children, to turning America into a socialist dictator state and god knows what else. That's an awful lot to accomplish for a guy who has supposedly "done nothing". But isn't that what the Right wants after all? A government that does nothing? An impotent beaureaucracy. They should be happy with a do nothing president

  • In retrospect now, we all see that Hunter spoke with intelligence and non-prejudice, and the truth was, Saddam was never a threat to the US (it's was al-Qaeda, different bunch of people), and now he's dead (Saddam), the threat still lives on, it's made no difference, if anything it's exacerbated the situation. Kinda makes a mockery of the whole war eh? Bless the folks that are fighting it though. R.I.P. those guys, and R.I.P. HST

  • the one dislike must be a bush supporter....

  • God Tim Russert's questions really expose the complete and utter breakdown of our media.

  • He definitely needs a lawyer here! It is always a gross mistake for a doctor of journalism not to have plenty of legal advice at hand; need a very fast car with no top and after that, the cocaine and then the tape recorder, for special music, and some Acapulco shirts. The only thing that really worried me is the ether: There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. And I know he'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

  • Boy, loooking back now Thompson was right on target about the war, Bush and Saddam and the whole Republican agenda. Russerts still crying "9/11" and Hunter questions the legitimacy of the war and has doubts about whose actually in charge here which at the time was somewhat radical. He even talks about Bush running the Country into the ground financially and just look what happend since then, this was in 03'. He was right on point whenever you can understand what the fuck hes saying.

  • I wish he were still I live, I would love to hear his writings on Dick Cheney, given how much he hated Nixon and how bruttaly he tore into him. And also I would love to hear what he thinks about Obama's half assing it and the state of the America populace being so much like sheep.

  • Maybe he knew too much, no doubt about it. Wish he were still here--but we people in the know need to keep his knowledge alive!

  • he was right about everything... so smart...

  • two of the greatest modern journalists. RIP to them both!

  • This war is gonna last a generation. wow. well played hunter

  • I agree with Hunter!

  • American Mental Breakdown is right

  • @roostertrigger no he killed himself at the start of George W. Bush's second Term as President.

  • @roostertrigger

died in 05 smartass try to be more clever

  • @roostertrigger no actually he killed himself right after bush got his second term. You're a smart man...

  • he is really smart despite his racial handicap

  • i love it. these fucking broadcasting liberals expect hunter to be duke. an off beat degenerate who took too much acid.... and every fucking interview he takes control and gets you on his side. man i wish he ran for president. RIP HST

  • Tim Russert was a great dude-very respectable

  • Making very logical points/observations which many Americans did accept nor believe for another 5 years.

(Miss him & Tim both. Two great journalist who truely seemed to love their country even if at times they had to report things others didn't want to hear or were ready to accept.)

  • It's good to see some politically sound and wise Americans

  • I went with Lizzid to see Hunter at Loeb Student Center NYU in 1982, at a lecture, he was an hour late and refused to start the lecture until he got a roll of toilet paper and a bucket of ice. After the student staff realized he wasn't kidding...they ran off and got him what he wanted. Upon receipt of the ice and the toilet paper roll, he opened up his briefcase, pulled out a bottle of Wild Turkey, took a glass filled it with ice and booze, used the roll of TP as a mic stand and started! OMG

  • that is an american way of being my friend, just like a roman ha

  • That is absolutely EPIC! Ha ha ha thanks for sharing that!

  • Hunter was the truth! To intelligent for most.

  • Speaking of intelligence, he was actually 'TOO intelligent for most.'

  • Amazing how right he had it.....

  • hunter got it right! great man. rip.

...but was the microphone in his mouth or something?

  • He was a writer, not an orator.

  • He never answered the Al Gore question

  • Fuck you

  • "When the going gets weird, the weird turn Pro"...I'm miss the motherfucker.

May the Great Magnet guide you safely.

  • a brilliant mind

    We will all miss him

    RIP

    Hunter Stockton Thompson

  • @dafunder This man was a lunatic.... Yea I miss him too.

  • Still, a shame the audio is so out of synch.

  • It's incredible how coherent and audible he is here.

Many times I've heard him, especially in the later years, he was almost unintelligible.

    I'm gonna miss 'im.
