Wow Roger, you are for the common man, he plays a lot, not to say, I'm your big fan, each video is your lesson for me ... a big hug from your friend, Miranda Higson - Brazil
Fantastic. Incidentally, my wife has an FP-4 and I have an FP-7, I prefer the action and piano sound of the FP-4 ! - though I also love my FP-7 and it is proving invaluable in me learning Jazz/improvising.
As a professional pianist myself, I am really enjoying these videos. You have a nice Chick Corea influence, but with nice use of space, blues phrases, good changes with tritone subs when they work, nice use of diminished patterns over dominants, and some lyric lines like Bill (Evans). Great stuff, man!
***** I'm amazed. Roland ought to pay you. You're the best advertising for the FP4 I've seen anywhere. Sounds great. Love your playing. Thanks for posting.
Fine again the jazz chords in Latin music. I send you my Slow Samba, own composition in a live performance. My mother is born in the Dutch Carribes, you recognize that probably. Enjoy!
Great playing. I love watching your hands on the keyboard. A week ago I ordered a new FP-4 Roland and can´t wait for it. I won´t be able to play like you - I've got a lot to learn.
L2L another great post. You really have those Corea-like things down. The lines that you played seem based on pentatonic scales, and you had that Chick Corea signature thing of playing grace notes using lower notes from the pentatonic scale rather than just lower chromatic neighbours. I am sure that I have heard CC do that 2 handed chromatic run. Actually the changes sound kind of 'Spain' like too. Wonderful!
Thanks Doug. Yes, that line was something like I heard Chick do on Spain - there is actually a video here on YT of him playing it at the 1975 Down Beat poll-winners concert.
I agree...that two handed line at 1:26 is crazy! It's amazing to me what you can do with those internal session partner songs. Rhythmic flow is great. Melodic lines are well defined. Terrific post!
Some of the switches and manner of improvisation remind me alot of Spain. Very awesome! At the moment I'm looking into ways of implementing typical Chick Corea lines into my playing.

The rhodes patch sounds like Lounge Lizard. Am I right?
ryancangri 1 year ago
@ryancangri Although I do use Lounge Lizard on some of my videos, this is actually a built-in stock sound on the FP-4 for this one.
Lot2learn 1 year ago
@Lot2learn Well in that case Roger, I must say that the FP-4 is a pretty amazing DP.

I have an F'-4 and I like to sell it. I don't like piano timbre. For the video: U are great man, wonderful. Five stars 4 U! Enrico

Great job, Roger. I don't need to go into any of the technical aspects as they have already been discussed. As usual, I enjoy your playing.
