I too was deeply hit by this news. While i never really got interested in ER itself, I have read every fictional book. Though I never met the man or had the oppertunity to communicate with him, he was the single biggest influence in my life to write. He will be greatly missed by me as well.
@retardedcartman - According to comments made by RandomHouse to news agencies, Crichton had no finished projects ready for publication. Unfortunatly I think we've seen it all. Hope I'm Wrong.
Never watched ER, but I've read every one of his fictional books. It's hard for me to realize that the next book (possibly being released next year) will be his last one... forever! :(
It is very sad, I'm an avid fan of his books, sad that he won't be around anymore. I enjoyed reading every one of his books and loved the topics he wrote about and the way he wrote them. Condolences to his family.
--I suggest reading "Travels", his travelogue/autobiography.

Check out what Frankielove914 had to say on the matter. Infuriates me.
Crichton touched me deeply as well, through the imagination of his works.
