  • im learning hok san too (:

i think its pretty good since you all learn from videos

    keep it up :D

  • you guys messed up on the front 5/7 clicks. right 2 times left, right and left then should be ended with the right click.

  • i will be afraid of this forever :X bad childhood memory/experience

  • need more emotions!!!

  • @lvshaolin I think you should omit the words "Hok Shan" in the title, just "Lion Dance Performance" would be more suitable, since one of the lion is actually "Fut Shan", I mean the far left one on the screen at the beginning of the video!!!

  • also i think if you can put more energy into your bows and when you shake the head(:

  • you guys need to bend down a little more. it looks weird when you stand up straight especially during the bow

  • I didn't know leung white crane gives away euipment

  • @Sandiegopadres112 We bought the heads at a really good price. Daniel imports from Singapore.

  • where did you guys get your lion dance equipment

  • @Sandiegopadres112 Leungs White Crane in San Francisco. They have a website. ask for Daniel.

  • kid needs more practice

  • the baby lion is so cute!

    xD

  • I like it I don't know if I could get that standard in like 9 weeks! ^^

  • hey there a fut san in there tho lol

  • Ahaha rightt on !! I never really learned from a teacher I learned off studieing other groups nd vids too, and we gotten kinda good ahha u gotta admire your devotion to lion dancing dat u pursued it on ur owns, ahah u guys r Gs for dat

  • nice job guys, don't worry bout the criticizing, just shake the head better, but other than that you guys did good, at least u have the drum beat down, i'm from yyt and we're about lion dancing

    lol

  • which yyt im from sydney yyt

  • yyt in houston =) we have vids of our performances up here too

  • awsomeeee

  • @shaolinwarrior87 woo!! go houston! :P

  • the head players seem to sway the heads side to side. This make the lion look like it's saying "No, No , No". The head players need to work squares and triangles and also to lock to give definition and a liveliness to the head. So for a square rather than move head to left, down, right and up.

It should be move the head to the left and snap tense the muscles to give a jerk,

then drop suddenly in a low ma bu to go down. then snap to the right and then lift suddenly into a high ma bu.

  • on thigh stacks the tail player needs to stick close to the head player otherwise in side profile you will see a break in shape with the tail players head clearly visible. The tail player needs to turn their head to the side and the side of their head pressed up against the butt of the head player. So the lion's shape is maintained as one in side profile.

  • The head player is not moving the head up and down with his jumps. Whenever he jumps into the air the head needs to be pushed up off the shoulders. Whenver he is landing or get into a rebound squat the head needs to be brought down on the shoulders. This reflects the way we jump, as we drive our arms up to jump and down to land. Also the jump onto the table the top lip of the lion (moustache) lifts above a nine oclock position and has a slight side wobble which breaks the image of the lion.

  • On the jumping it is important not to lose the shape. The series of jumps at 3.12 you can see quite clearly the tail players head through the skin. Try to get the tail player to move up & down exactly in time with the head player on the rebound jumps as well as the main jumps. A lot of peolpe do not appreciate why KSK are so good, when I judged them in competition there was no break in their shaping whatsoever. Other teams had more impresive stunts, but they could not maintain the shape.

  • Your team has some potential.

    In terms of constructive criticism

The head players need to lean there body forward to a 2 oclock position. The reason being the head players stomach becomes the lion's chest. If the head payer stands too upright it destoys the animal shape.

The tail players need to flatten their back as the arch detracts from the shaping of the lion. they should aim to get the back of their head lining up with the head players waist and it should rise no higher.

  • Again, Thank you for the help :)

  • where did u get the lil one from love it

  • stop doing one knee so much and shake the head better

  • hey hey that kid know how to performence or not..train more pls...they look like my first day train lion dance

  • Well we are not saying that you guys are wrong, but the main point is please do train better and get at least a better quality performance before getting out for any performance. Therefore, you guys told us that by using the routine of KSK, do you ever think for them and wat happen if any KSK members seeing this and their routine has no more standard. Anyway, dun give up! Practice Practice believe you guy can do It!! Think of other lion dance members all around the world b4 saying anything =)

  • From the information being provided by you... i could say that you guys are having the great motivation and the effort.Just wanna inform you guys that, I would just really wanna say that please do not give a DISGRACE name to KSK Team. Their routine are immortal!! The routine that you have showed to us is really making the KSK team to be really disappointed and a shame of it!! KSK is the top champion and the best lion dance troupe ever!! PLEASE DO NOT Destory KSK Name..."dance"+drumming all Wrong

  • KSK is the top champion and the best lion dance troupe ever. People know that we are copying KSK. They also know that we are not KSK, so any disgrace or shame is only on our team name. We know that we have many mistakes. We are working hard to be a good team.

  • the small lion needs more practise man

  • to be honest this is pretty good there were some mistakes but overall the presentation was good

  • yeah i a totally agree .....it does need more practice .....the little lion hould do wat the others are doing .....my club does all the same thing

  • It's not bad for a performance, but I agree with you that your team needs practice. In some parts of this video, it looked like they were hesitating when there wasn't any movement. Nothing wrong with watching videos but as they get more advanced, they should try to create some movements of their own and have some coaches later on to work more on the difficult parts. I'm not saying this is bad, they should try to add more movement to add more excitement. Overall, I hope they keep trying.

  • yeah, one of the hok san wif purple ears obviously dun know how to dance like lion n so inactive n not expressive at all,not to mention the basic steps, even the basic 3 times staute oso can't get it rite when ending part..

  • Comment removed

  • that was a pretty nice performance. i giv props to teh little mess up and pulling it off xD, but u guy's cymbals r out of tune. nevertheless, fantastic =p

  • keep up the good work, hints for a successful team, cymbals shouldnt look at the drummer 24/7 they need to memorize the beats and a tip while practicing make a few mistakes and let the drummer keep drumming the same beats and when they get back in steps continuing drumming the routine and i know its hard for no coach but my team is from alabama and we also had no coach we taught ourself our drumming and stances and movement and the jump more practice and try to do it daily to get use to it.

  • hey try to tell your cymbals people to try to listen to the beats and make a routine and instead of looking at the drummer look at the lion cause what if the lion fell what can yall do? for us when we fell off of our jongs we kept drumming the same 15 seconds beats before we fell and start back about 3 steps before you fall cause its easier to get back into the beats. and the gong person tell her to relax more and loosen up and remind her to memorize the beats(more helpful in performances)

  • good teamwork but its like my lion dance group we only had 8 people in our team and we had 23 places to dance for during new years and we had alot of stress cause my team we taught our own self then we had to rent a lion with my uncles money cause ours wasnt delivered on time but now we looked and performed way better after hours of practicing and the drumming the gong person tell her to relax and follow the rythm in the beats and the cymbal instead of looking at the drummer all the time

  • great lion dancing ^^

  • haha hey it looks pretty good, just keep it up and you guys will be a lot better. There's no shame in learning from videos and don't worry about what anyone else says about you guys. Most don't know anything about lion dancing anyways ;]. A lot of the members on my team is also in that age range and they do learn well and try hard. Loved the lion on the table and of the baby needs a bit of practice =] but off to a great start! good job! =] Nice lions BTW.

  • sorry to say but this looks pretty bad...one lion has no idea wut hes doing...and there were a few mistakes...such as the stack/kick -.-

  • One lion has been training for 3 weeks only which means a total of 9 hours. Like it says in the side bar, we do need work. Just because we put something up on youtube doesn't mean we are saying "look at us, there were no mistakes" The students know they did not land the stack kick. They tried it but did not make it. Thanks for trying to help us out by pointing it out, or are you just being critical to make yourself feel good?

  • no im just saying that u guys shud work on the rountine more...it looks sloppy, its not bad for begginners, but one lion doesnt even do bows right -.- u guys have potential tho

  • you should think they are only kids and they are trying to have fun and plus no pressure on them cause if you do put too much on them they will keep up and its not their fault if they messed up they havent had alot of time for practicing and what yall did i got to agree my team also no coach and we sponsor ourselves for our lion we had after hurricane katrina and our equipments we had to rent for our performances until i bought our own equipment and paid the team back for it cause im the leder

  • is that all kids doing the lion dance

  • The entire team, except for the main tail player, is under 16 years old. Most of them are around 12.

  • Very nice, I don't do lion dancing now, but I used to, and I've got to say, you guys are really good, especially for not having a coach and only practicing one day out of the week.

  • Thank you very much. The Main head player has been training only 3 months.
