  • Since this Volume is out-of-print, would you mind passing a copy on ? (compensation expected of course)

  • mike stern!!!

  • Hey MarloweDK, awesome feel for music man! I am awiting for a TRB6II as well, and like the tone of your bass, is that the natural sound, or is it EQ'ed a bit.

cheers man, and keep up the great work

  • man, how can u find that music not terribly boring ? The guitar is downright horrible, the rhythm section so muzak-like lame despite of all the fancy fills ...the keyboard's atrociously pretentious. That is "music for musicians" in the worst sense of the expression. Don't mean to be insulting to anyone, but -man!- I really had to spit that out !

  • Totally brilliant playing Marlowe! Hombre, you are amazing!

Really in the groove there! Lovely tone too.

  • A few years older and Berry Gordy would have hired you for Motown. ;-)

  • me encantan tus aportes!!!!

    aguante loco!!!1

  • hahaha fusion music : ) i'm sure you wish steve colaiuta was there doing these big drum fills awesome

  • @checkabreak steve = vinnie ?

  • The TRB has such a nice tone. Admit it, Marlowe... it's becoming one of your favorites!

  • haha i´ve never seen you play like this...i love it how you in the end of the video really jam around... is it all impro or do you play it after the book?

  • Just jamming:)

  • Everything I hate in music, probably the cheesiest and most bad taste one can come across..

  • My favorite part is where it says "Thats a great way to practice - highly recommended - not for beginners though"

This is beginner song no doubt about it. It's not like you're doing something amazing like Wooten (if you don't know who he is then shame on you).

  • mister pro. you so cool. can I touch your hair?

Its true what he says, it is maybe too hard for new bassists to try, but for people who have played for maybe 3-4 or more years it is good. I dont see them as beginners.

  • agreed. i have no hair. no one's loss but mine. ha ha ha.

  • @manimaneman Ow come on. This stuff is not for beginners! If you think you can play this after 1 year of playing then your stupid. This piece has some rythmic difficulties, your technique has to be very good, you must know how to read notes and he's playing this piece note by note. and this is not the hardest piece in the book, there are many more pieces with many more difficult things ;)

  • "This stuff is not for beginners! If you think you can play this after 1 year of playing then your stupid." wow you know me so well. I've been playing for 3 going on 4 years. but i was just ripping on the fact that it specifically says not for beginners. how long you been playing for? since it's rhythmically difficult.

  • @manimaneman Dude i've been playing for 5 years and attend a conservatory. So i know when stuff is difficult for beginners. If you could play this when you was just playing 1 year, then you could consider yourself quite a prodigy. And i'm not just talkin about this piece, it's a book so it means that there are more pieces.

  • okay, it even says it's a level 1/2 book.

  • @manimaneman For those standards.

Be reasonable. How many players that have been playing for 1 year do you know that can play this?

  • maybe a hand full. but still i was just laughing at the fact that it says not for beginners and yet it's a level 1 book. those books are generally for beginners. so they can learn the rhythmic techniques, read notes, and stay on beat.

  • @manimaneman I think you are only listening to this piece! There are more pages cause it's a book, following? Maybe this is the first page. And i think some as experienced MarloweDK knows when something is difficult or not.

  • omg....so boring- i felt asleep....

  • Fantastic sounding bass.

  • Hey Marlowe, I'm one of your subscribers for maybe more than a year now and I'm learning a lot from you, thanks Bro. just want to ask, where can I get this JP ultimate bass playalong? I'm so interested about the cd's only coz' I can't read notes, I only use my ears since day 1, again, Thanks a lot bassbrother....

  • ohh cool :D i have this for drums (means that this is minus drums on my CD), Dave Wreckl on drums btw.

  • well i haven`t seen this guy playing somethings like dream theater or some progressive music but man this guy play like a god thanks to him i learned a lot of things about basses and he made me buy my first fender it`s a jazz bass from 75 ressiue sunburst and it sounds really really good LOL but i`m sure that this guy can play dream theater or things better than that..keep it going marloweDK your the best bass player of youtube

  • Thx man , but im not into progressive rock im afraid.

  • @MarloweDK

And you are right to be not, just keep it with funk, jazz and blues. and gospel ofcourse!

  • well i haven`t seen him play something about dream theater or stuff like that

  • Is there anything this guy CAN'T play? He's amazing and makes me want to practice a lot more than I do - which is almost NEVER! lol

  • nice playin good dynamics

  • This is funny to hear! I use to have a dave weckl drum book and it had this same track only without the drums just a cowbell

  • Well, hes wearing headphones. As he's said before - His neighbours love him.

  • nice how the camera starts shaking at 4. that's a beautiful bass.

  • Hey MarloweDK, i dig ur playbassnow dot com website! How's the music going for you? Hope all is well! Nice vid too!

  • so can you actualy read music properly then Marlowe have you done grades

are you self taught or tutord

  • Great stuff, will check this volume on amazon right now.

Just a question: will my 5 string (low B) be sufficient or the book uses 6 str exclusively?

Didn't see any C string usage in this video ;)

  • dolgano:

all basses can use it, ok sometimes you have a low d, but not often.

    Highly recommenable

  • thats at least where i wanna get with my bass playing, must have been alot of fun ;)

  • Marlowe...you said you were 'trying my best to tag along'???? you were holding groove in and burning it!!! LOL!!! i'm a big fan...i don't even consider myself a beginner in bass...but seeing you play, sure makes me want to go back to the wood shed and practice!

  • are you sight reading this piece?

  • to kissassdude:

Somewhat, its a leadsheet with suggested notes, but i add my own too

  • wow, thats so cool, unfotunately i live in argentina and that J P stuff is impossible to get here. i wolud love one of those books

  • fukn sick ! patitucci my man

  • yes! more 6 string jammin, ur the man, great groovin

    gotta love patitucci

  • What is the six string you are playing ?

  • Marlowe might correct me, but it looks like a Yamaha TRB6

  • yes thats right it it :D

    realy nice basses them :D

  • always love ur tone man

    another great jam. sounds great

  • Seems like you play with a very light light touch. Is this because you keep your action very low?

  • to Fluffy:

I have a moderate to heavy attack i think, some times really diggin' in and sometimes with a lighter touch, it varies.

  • Thank you. Do you keep the action on all your basses relatively the same, or do you mix it up depending on the main use of the particular bass?

  • to fluffy:

I lower the actions as much as possible, but some basses needs major fret work and cannot have too low action without major fretbuzz. So you are right in a way

  • I see. Thank you for your response!

  • John Patitucci is a kick ass bass player.

  • You would like Anthony Vitti's Hip Hop, Finger Funk Vol. 1 and 2 books. Check them out.

  • Indeed a great book. Great sightreading and feel.

  • Love it.

  • Marlowe you Legend

    that bass is lush =]

  • Never liked John Patitucci for some reason. Thats all changed now.

  • Great to see 6-stringed here! It gives more options to vary fingerings than less strings, and tonal variations too! I personally recommend 6 strings to all my students, who have fingers long enough to handle it.

  • nice bass

  • New strings Marlowe?

  • to fleajr:

    Yes , DR hibeams

  • ah, I thought they looked a bit clean.

  • Comment removed

  • to Martskre:

The main bassline is written out, but im adlibbing all fills and variations. The important is that your play with a "professional" recording, and it makes you try harder:-)

  • awesome job man, sounding groooovy

  • still appreciate your playing, but I find that music really really reeeally boring... yawn...

  • Nice, i like the 6 string.

  • Great vid as usual MarloweDK. Have you ever had a bass teacher or are you self taught?

  • to kab0000:

mostly selftaught initially, but got showed some theory stuff by a renown jazz bassplayer. Later in life i got a musician/music teacher education

  • Hi Marlow,

sounds and grooves great as always. Remember the Keith Hatchell track?

  • thx for getting the 6er back into the game marlowe! great video here :)

  • great job

  • Órale Marlowe!

+ 1 to what 6str said! Keep 'em coming!

    Bobbo

  • I have to say that I've really enjoyed your vid's the past few month. I'm a Bass teacher and always tell my students to check out your site. You have the chops for sure, but man can you groove. Thats what its all about. Keep the funk alive, Peace.
