Can you give me a link from the CD you got this piece from? I'd love to buy the CD with this piece! I could download it of course, but this is so good, the people deserve my money! :D
Yes, David Munrow burst upon the rather torpid London renaissance music scene, turned it upside down, shook it and completely revitalised it. He was indeed, a key figure.
This is fantastic. What a rich, full sound this instrument has! I very much admire David Munrow's work. What a shame there is nobody to take his place.
In the description from the vinyl record set the strange sound is produced by the Arpichordum stop based on the description by Praetorious in his "Syntagma Musicum Vol. 2 of 1619.
Great song. I'm a HUGE Early Music fan and have been a member of SCEMS here in L.A. for years. I'm going to start posting some of my favorite EM songs. You inspired me.
A guy who played this back in these days, would certainly win the love of all the girls.

What do people call this song? Does it have a name? I think I heard it on lute before. I really love it!!!

@HannekeDeb Check your inbox! I have it in vinyl, and the CD version looks different, but I'm pretty sure it's the one I've sent you.

Sounds like video game music from the 80s and ealry 90s, though the compositional style is very different, of course.

wow this is awesome!:-D
the instrument that entres at the end sounds like a techno synth thing or a sitar

I believe it is just a switch you can flick on a virginal. Lowering leaden hooks to make the bass strings buzz.

Love the piece. It really swings. The instrument has a great bass sound, as though a pizzicato double bass were playing along with it.

This piece is so rocking that it cries for a jazz or rock version, with e-guitar, and it would not sound bad !

the "sweep"

It's an arpichordium-stop. By pulling the stop, metal hooks were pressed against the strings and made a buzzing sound.

Much like the two bridges on a sitar.
