  • I loved this song when it first came out. It did sum up the weird parties that were regular in the early 1970s.

I dont care about the adjustment of the turntable, I heard Nursery Cryme many times at 37 & 3/4 on my girlfriends old record player, - and lived.

    Happy days.

  • Spin it baby..songs just like I remember..hehehe :D

  • i dig it

  • Why are they not in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame?!?

  • oh but ima coming////

  • the turn table is out of ajustment I know , I'm 50

  • the turntable is out of adjustment, i'm 50 I know

  • @maxwellmaxamillian

yes, turntable is spinning faster, the pitch is wrong

  • So, I was walking through Home Depot, music playing over the loudspeakers quietly and all, and this comes on. Quite surprised by this; I know of no radio station that plays it. Decided I might actually buy something. Didn't, though.

  • Woo woo woo woo!

  • sounds sped u and more high pitch

  • Some music is best enjoyed exactly the way it was first enjoyed.

  • Great! What's on the B side?

  • @briandunne1 "Rock & Roll Widow" according to Wikipedia

  • Love this song and the message about all the druggies in the 70s. People need to pay attention to the message and not do these things. Thanks for the post of all these great songs by Three Dog Night.

  • Sounds great even at 45 1/2 RPM

  • Thanks for that.

  • All those good memories...

  • "You work out at Vince's...oh, no...I would've seen ya there"

  • Brings back so many memories for me..." I've seen so many things I aint never seen before" It was the time. i'm glad I got to live thru it...wouldn't change that for anything. There was some exceptional music back then!

  • This song brings back so many memories for me...I loved Three Dog Night. Just not the same now w/o Chuck Negron now.

  • cool beanz

  • love that old record player

  • No Coment... Amazing

  • I bet he had a hangover the following morning when he wrote this song. lol

  • badass video man

  • records are the only way man

  • u have it sped up and the pitch raised

  • The speed is really messed up on the record player. Too fast.

  • This is so Cool, How I Love Vinyl!

  • Not only did I have this 45 record, but I had the EXACT SAME RECORD PLAYER!!!!! Wow, I am so eight years old right now......

  • come again, you all,, lol but a good song if you think about farts

  • I'm only 41 but had the pleasure of seeing theese guys back in the 80's thank you for a good dose of vinyl..

  • mama told me not to cum...... in her puss

  • yo need to check your speeds.. you can very clearly hear the record pitch up in the last 45 seconds, and no that is not the fault of the record, or the pressing... your turntable is warming up, and the motor is loosening up, so it spins faster pitching the music up...

  • whats all these crazy questions you axkin' me?

  • 13 people mama told them to go

  • Great vinal sir!!!!!!

  • Great vinal sir!!!!!!

  • this is what Classic is all about, besides having the ultimate carrying phonograph record player!..just AWESOME! =0D

  • CLASSIC

  • THIS IS WHAT REAL MUSIC IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • But I do believe that I am correct in how the band got its name --- "Three Dog Night".

  • @clintonearlwalker ----- ahhh...doktorzoom, just below, wrote "Holy cats...Randy Newman wrote this?".. .. I guess in reference to Three Dog Night song "Mama Told Me". Now I don't know if he did or not. So I wrote "didn't Randy Newman do "Short People"?", thinking that he did (which you concur). But also as a query, in my thinking that that, "Short People", was the ONLY song he wrote. I am not a music expert, so I don't know if he wrote more or not.

  • 'I'm looking at my girlfriend, she's passed out on the floor' ha ha ha

  • wait a minute? didn't Randy Newman do "Short People"?

  • @aspenrebel I'm not sure what this comment is referring to, but I'm nearly positive that Randy Newman did "Short People". I still have the 45 rpm.

  • "Three Dog Night" comes from the Aborigines in Australia. When they use to be out in the bush, hunting, they'd bring their dogs/dingos along with them. Then when, and if, it got cold at night, they'd sleep with their dog to keep warm. If it was cool, they'd sleep with one dog, if cooler with 2 dogs, if cold they'd sleep with 3 dogs. So the band's name refers to a cold night in Australia when you'd need to sleep w 3 of your dogs to keep warm. Thus, "Three Dog Night".

  • Holy cats...Randy Newman wrote this? Is there any corner of the music business he hasn't influenced, simply by singing about what he sees?

  • Love this song. Remeber listening to it as a child in the late 60´s.

  • 11 people turned on the lights.

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! Love this song! Brings back fond memories of the times bak then...I turned 14 in 1970. 3 Dog Night had so many wonderful hits over the years. A truly gifted group. It wasn't until recently that I found out what the term "3 Dog Night" means! MANY thanks for posting this utterly delightful "blast from the past" for us to enjoy! You've MADE my day & my week! :)

  • @JubalCalif Snagglepuss is wonderful; awesome ev-en

  • @Pinochle7hbt

Even Major Minor would second that emotion! Uh oh...gotta go...EXIT, STAGE RIGHT !!! :)

  • @JubalCalif Sheesh, Jubal, I turned 15 in Oct, 1970 and I may have heard what "3 dog night" refers to, but have forgotten, so tell me again!

  • @coloradoman11

Well, O' Man of the Rockies, the way I understand it, sometimes the pioneers would get so cold during those long winter nights that they'd take to sleeping with their dogs. The colder the night, the more canines were needed for extra warmth. Thus a VERY cold night would be a THREE Dog Night due to the need for that extra body heat. You turned 15 in Oct of '70? That means we're only a year apart in age. Groovy! Hope I've been of some help; thanks for your comment! Cheers!

  • @JubalCalif Hey! It gets bloody cold up here in the Canadian BC Rockies. I can believe a three dog night yes even a ten dog night! lol

  • @cefair22

The Canadian Rockies?? Heavens to Murgatroid, I can certainly believe how dang nippy it can get up there! Strictly from chillysville, daddy-o! I get goosebumps on me flesh just thinking about how cold it gets up there! Brrrr to the max! THANKS for your droll comment! CHEERS! :-)

  • wow i had one of those when i was kid. the suitcase 45 player!

  • When I first heard this song, I was still playing with paper dolls and Barbie's Dream House (with walk-in closet). A record player like this was my Christmas present that year.

  • i cant help but think this song shoulda been used for the opening credits of Fear and Loathing when theyre driving thru the desert .....instead it was used about halfway thru, and was barely noticeable.

  • @donthaveoneable OMG! you are SO RIGHT! i don't know why this song wasn't used ANYWHERE in that movie!! i don't remember it being used anywhere...and if this song doesn't COMPLETELY envelope that movie...then i must be a tall black man.

  • @notTHEcher It was indeed used in the movie... although part of it was overdubbed with the sound of the Room Service guy coming into the room before having a gun pointed at his head. It followed one of the most prosaic statements about the "hippy revolution" .."From There you could almost see the high water mark that it left before it turned and rolled back out to sea" (from memory). What this song needs is a proper hifi version with the Full Sound, and lots of BASS.

  • @donthaveoneable it was noticable enough to have at least a few thousand people come to this vid

  • Retro 70's

    COOL.

  • Solid State Phongraph LMAO!!!

  • @viscig60 probably bought from Woolworth!

  • (I am a vynal 45) DAMN, what are you doing to me with this barbie doll needle, oh man this is killing ME!!

  • does anybody have a song that sounds like "black and white"?

  • i like it

  • Oh Man! I love it!! I loved my 45's. Sheesh, I wished I'd kept some, but then 8 tracks came into style. LOL!!

  • @AngelMoonDust 4 Track was first

  • @realfoneguy You're right, maybe I just got confused because each track had four songs on it or maybe I just don't remember correctly. Anywho thanks for the reminder :)~

  • @AngelMoonDust The four track cartridge was bigger and thicker than the 8 track. The concept was the same but there were only two "Sides" to the 4 track as compared to the 4"sides" to the eight track. Later on you were able to buy blank 8 tracks and a recorder. I know Sony and Panasonic each made a model or two. I have both of them, but no blanks.

  • @realfoneguy Then I was confused & maybe a bit dazed as well. :)~ I do stand corrected sir and now more enlightened. Have a nice week & keep it real. Peace ;0)

  • This song was actually written by Hoyte Axton

  • @daddyroo45 Randy Newman i believe!

  • Fine fine tune right here.

  • Maybe I won't tell him about the bats, the poor bastard'll see 'em soon enough

  • This was the number one record when American Top 40 began, and it was number one on my thirteenth birthday. By the way, I still have the record, and I even play the other side, "Rock N Roll Widow", occasionally. I played both on a radio show on Tuesday, 30 June 1981, when I took the audience back to 1970.

  • Portable record players that ran on batteries !!!!! Mine still works !!!!! LOL ! Bought it at a garage sale.

  • this reminds me of a close n play

  • "I was right in the middle of a fucking reptile zoo, and someone was giving booze to these goddamn things!" Fucking excellent!!!

  • this is a classic, no covering this and doing it justice

  • I used to have one of those cheap record player when I was a kid. wish I still had it, but I tore it up like all the rest of my toys. It sounds surprisingly good especially since you've miked it properly unlike most people on youtube you have the mikes in the wrong place. It sounds like it may be running a little bit fast.

  • Hahahahahahaha that's great!

  • the record player is as 70's as the song! Note the "handy carrying case with built-on handle" transforming it into a "portable" record player. I love the song and the nostalgia that goes along with it. TY for this unique share!

  • This is when AM public radio was awesome.

  • Classic song about the perils of partying...never fails to bring a smile :)

  • 3 Dog Night left their mark in the rock and roll music industry. This group doesn't take a back seat to any other group in music history. They share it with an elite number of just as talented rock groups! Their list of hit singles are a testament to this group's talent and their songs are unforgettable.

  • This song defined the Summer of 1970 for me. Tell me this song doesn't take you back to the Summer of 1970. Where on earth did those almost 40 years go!!

  • @trinitylancer I remember hearing the song on the radio but I was only 5 years olds

in 1970. I was more interested in ice cream back then!

  • @catcookie So was I

  • i love watch this and see the record being played.

  • Cool song! Lol it took me forever to find this because I thought the song was called "That aint the way to have fun, son"

  • wow i love this video. i remember staring at a turn-table much like that one while listening to this song. Ah memories...

  • My favorite song of Three Dog Night. Joy to the World is next.

  • First trip with my friends to Myrtle Beach 16 and a 1966 Mustang convertible Momma told me not to go But I did and would love to relive those days again And this song was a hit on AM radio at that gotta love it

  • Awesome!!!!!!!

Delightfull song, amazing video! I mean, I wish I had one of these LP players, but I haven't it. So I keep coming here to watch one... lol!

  • "Remove the arm!"

  • Ha! I finally see I'm not the only one reminded of that movie when they hear the song!

  • lol i think ppl dont get ur comment and think its about the arm of this guy in this vid!!... but i get u... totally think of it too... one of the best scenes of the movie!!

  • <3<3<3

  • Too awesome.

  • got it met chuck negron 5 10 years ago got his autograph they are one of the coolest man

  • Thanks for the memories -- one of my all-time favorite bands -- played the same way I used to rock to it -- while watching that disk spin around underneath my phonograph "stylus." Rock on!

  • When one dog ain't enough and two is too low, you need THREE DOG!

  • old school!!!! NICE!

  • fucking love the dogs!

  • Vinyl blows the doors of CD's Period. I have sync them exacrly to compare the two. CD's have that icing sound while LP have the bottom and warmth. MOFI's and a real turntable were use during the comparison. All high end gear.

  • sounds blk dough

  • damir NORLANE --wog boy lova ---

  • I'm glad to see that vinyl is making a comeback.

  • I can never get enough bros!!

  • Randy Newman wrote some cool Sh##!

    Thanks for posting!

  • P.S.

    cool player!

  • nice vid aquaman

  • A little sped up... hmmm

  • Eddie Adams from Torrance. I knew ya'd make it!

  • NICE!!!!!!!! this new generation knows nothing of what music is to sound like

  • you got it right THIS VIDEO SHOULD BE AN EDUCATIONAL VIDEO you hooked the stereo microphone (radio shack doesnt make those anymore) to your videocamera. WOW!!!

  • Actually some people say that when the music is played on vinyl or period accurate playback devices it sounds better because thats how they remember it when they first heard it.

  • i adore this song.

  • classic

  • my god thats muuusic!!!

    aaalright!!!

  • There was a guy from calgary

  • What a great song Randy Newman is a living American Treasure

  • 1970..when I just turned nine years old...my Dad made me listen to this song..."Do you know what it's about?"

sheesh. I was still playing with my Barbie dolls! LOL

  • @rousse61 lol - that's funny....my dad would just come up and rip any "rock and rock" record we had right off the player if he deemed it to be "evil rock and roll" and throw it in the trash....ahhh, the good 'ol days...

  • When I heard this first I was very young. I thought that the party was real and scary. Now I can hear humour in the song, but also see it in its time at the end of the hippy drug party. Paranoia.

  • a fucking classic! i LOVE this song!

  • this song reminds of the summer of 1970..Ride Captain Ride!!!

  • this song always reminds me of fear and loathing in las vegas

    best movie ever made :P

  • hell yes!!

  • haha yea love that movie and this song

  • This reminds me of a moment I had with my Mum.

  • Well...you gonna elaborate ??

  • Freaking awsome song

  • Some songs are immune to age. This one sounds even better than when it was originally released!

  • WOW! Someone in Brazil stole your video. I can't believe people do that.

  • great job !

  • Eat your heart out Tom

  • FEAR AND LOATHING!!!!! :DDD

  • Yesssss. That's how I found my way here. I haven't watched it in a while, listening to this song makes me wanna watch that shit. Great, great, great movie.

  • uuhhuahhh

  • not

    to

    come

    \

  • momma

    told

    me

  • Sounds great!!

  • The TR-808 is coming...

  • Anyone knows the Wolfgang Press?

  • AH! I have the record as well! Getting needles seems to be the trouble. This was the number one record when American Top 40 began with Casey Kasom on 4 July 1970.

I remember that I began puberty with my 13th birthday when I bought this record.

I still miss the phonographs that played sic records at a time on the spindle.

  • i dont know why but 45s always sound better to me, a bit sped up i guess

  • Records are analog recording and cds are digital. a digital recording is not capturing the complete sound wave. It is approximating it with a series of steps. Some sounds that have very quick transitions, such as a drum beat guitars etc., will be distorted because they change too quickly for the sample rate. So vinyl does sound better. You have a good ear. Too bad about dust causing pop noises though 8(

  • the right vinyl ...

  • Hey i have that same mic

but i don't know how to use it

    can you help?

  • 8-) hehe

  • fear and loathing in las vegas soundtrack...:D

    amazing!!!!

  • The decision to flee came suddenly. Or maybe not. Maybe I planned it all along, subconsiously waiting for the right moment....

  • THis is fucking bat country
