  • anyone making an anus joke here aught to be taken out back and shot.

  • @jackyjackson right then, following orders. *takes PAPERofRock out back, shoots him like fucking old yeller*

  • magic coming out of uranus

  • uranus is pretty deep

  • The comments below are why I always call it "Ouranos" XD

  • @CreativeImpulse Read my astrological poem on Ouranos/Uranus on my Channel.

  • no URanus

  • @markhalbert2008 did you not mean to post that 3 times? Or do you have OCD to go with your lack of a sense of humor?

  • @motiongraphics81 - did you really mean 2020? Or do you have a time machine?

  • @markhalbert2008

    Futurama...

  • My theme song. It feels like plotting... There's always something going on in my crazy little mind. But can be so all over the place, passionate, and energetic.

  • pluto wasnt discovered when this was composed

  • Being a huge Lord of the Rings fan, listening to the beginning of this makes me think of the elves throwing a party and the darker parts are either Saruman or Sauron marching in.

  • @Glitch5222 of course after reading that, i too have that image

  • Whait... Uranus is not the magician... Neptunus are...

Well, never mind, I love this music!!!

  • Thats odd, it almost sounds like Harry Potter.... I got to stop watching too much DVDs

  • choon.

  • Uranus woke me up! put a cork in it lol!!!

  • GRAN OBRA DE HOLST

  • I remember the first time I heard this symphony. I fell in love with it.

    Mars made me shiver.

    Venus made me cry.

    Mercury made me smile.

Jupiter pulled on my heart strings.

    Saturn put me to sleep.

    Uranus woke me up.

    Neptune gave me dreams.

I feel like the symphony was written specifically for me. I love it.

  • @PAPERofROCK Nice. XD I can see all those happening to anyone. Mars made me want to duck and curl into a ball under a table or something XD.

  • @PAPERofROCK I agree!!! :D

  • @PAPERofROCK uranus woke me up. that's called a fart.

  • @strongbadman2 LOL not YOUR ANUS AS IN PENIS

  • @PAPERofROCK I LOVE this! Both the video and your description/interpretation; I agreed wholeheartedly, although Mars was stirring I always associated anger with him, he is definitely the bringer of war, I felt for Venus too as I felt she was sad at his warring ways- Saturn is a grand and wise old sage :) My favourite though was Jupiter- like you it played my heart like a harp, hearing it brought me back to my childhood- its so romantic! n_n

  • If you want to know what classical music does to youtube, please read the comments to this song.

  • BAAAAH~

    BUUUH~

    BAAAAH~

    BUUUUUUUUUUH~

    Love it XD

  • This is a good theme song for a crazy drama teacher.

  • @TendancyToFloatAway All Drama teachers are crazy, aren't they?

  • 2:18 pretty cool drums, sounds like some funny scene out of looney toons haha

  • chord ch-chord ch-chord ch-chord chord

  • i swear the Pink Elephants on Parade song from the movie Dumbo took inspiration from this

  • By far the most diverse piece of the set, I can visualize the story better with this than any of the others.

  • fav. song of the set

  • how come the music goes on when the vid has?

  • Story of my life.

  • Comment removed

  • this sounds like something off of fantasia lol

  • @matt789123456

Yup. This was intended as a kind of demonic spin-off of The Sorcerers Apprentice.

  • I once read somewhere that this was Holst's personal favorite of the set ^_^

  • Nope, Saturn was. Though this planet doesn't get enough credit. It's as monumental as Jupiter or Mars.

  • Epic ending!

  • LOL, beginning made me jump xD

  • If the song gets stuck, refresh the page; it's a great piece. =P It really does sound magical.

  • i love that flute thing where it gets those really high notes, i cant get the time thougjh because this vid is glitched

most underated of all of the movements

  • ARGH whenever I try to skip a bit of this song it gets stuck! The same thing happens on Jupiter as well! >:(

  • I know!!!!

  • The best recording of Uranus, the Magician is that by the Montreal Symphony from 1985. The overall clarity and resonance is unparalleled.

  • oh no i glitched it! i cant hear the rest of the song! FUCK!

  • i glitched it even worse now! the music is still playing even though the video reached it's 5 minute mark! thats when the video stops but it shouldnt be over DAAA! im confused!

  • hahaha Holst. what a guyyy :)

  • LOL Uranus is a magician xD

    beans beans magical fruit...

haha sorry had to say it :P

  • HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!!!

  • Can anyone tell me the exact recording this is and if it's available on CD? I've sampled several of the ones listed on Amazon but none have the same feel as this one. Thank you.

  • waaaaa i want one of those shiny and cool marbles loloilololol

  • beautiful

  • This music worked so well in that 1930s short film; the birth of a robot. Made it really sinister. If anyone gets a chance, they should see it, only 6 min long and really original.

  • Ahh! Lots of old movies on youtube, but the Birth of a robot isn't anywhere. Maybe I should travel back to 1930.

  • its on the web somewhere, but you need to be on certain computers to view it

still, it was a pretty cool and amazingly original video

  • this is AWESOME!

  • im glad that gustav holst didn't compose a pluto piece. because it's not a planet.

  • heathen. Pluto will rise again!

  • lol :)))

  • cats want planet uranus hehe

  • Wow. I'm not saying I'm surprised, but there sure is a hell of a lot of immaturity going on here.

  • lol i agree

  • at 1:28 is my faverite :-P

  • they sped it up. it not this fast.

  • I agree, this version is incredibly fast.

  • Not incredibly fast.... This is a tad fast, but I prefer it to move along lightly as opposed to dragging along dreadfully.

Great recording, but wierdly pitchy at parts.

  • Uranus and Saturn (Cronus) were Titans

  • Uranus wasn't a titan, he was what is considered a primordial god. He fathered the titans.

  • wow the god uranus is a magician 0=)

  • これどこの交響団の録音?

  • this song is sure short compared to others

  • It's the second shortest... "Mercury" is only 4 minutes or so.

  • This is a great movement, one of my favorites to Mars

  • sounds sinister.

  • reminds me of dumbledore.

  • i love 3:23 it sounds like u could hear it in a circus

  • That's exactly what I think of everytime I heard this.

  • This is my favourite movement from the suite. For me, it conjures up images of a mad wizard playing with powerful forces to create an amazing spectacle before accidentally unleashing armageddon at the end. Ties in nicely with the bleakness of Neptune that follows on from it.

  • Professor: "I'm sorry, Fry, but astronomers renamed that planet in 2020 to stop that stupid joke once and for all."

Fry: "Oh. What's it called now?"

    Professor: "Urectum."

  • You sir, win at the internet.

  • @motiongraphics81 I'm pretty sure it was "Ursphincter" I could be wrong...

  • @missTawnton Err, isn't that the statue in Egypt.

  • @Stepper11 That's the great sphinx of giza.

  • @missTawnton It was most definitely Urectum"

  • i like this cuz the beginning sounds like godzilla. >:3 lolz. its a really good piece. i heard that this one was the most popular movement actually.

  • I would have thought the Mars or Mercury movement were the most well known.

  • Jupiter =D

I hear it all the time

I heard the beginning of it on a chocolate commercial, I heard it on a soap oprah, I heard it playing at a soccer game.

other places too but i can't remember at the time

  • Jupiter FTW.

  • people often get married to parts of it.

  • Anything that has those ominous godzilla notes in the beginning is garunteed to be awesome. The Godzilla 1985 soundtrack is really good, the opening has some epic-ass doom orchestra music

  • actually godzilla would technically have uranus' notes as it is the original composition that the sound track would have drawn from

  • I think this is where Walt Disney got his idea for Mickey Mouse in the Sorcerer's Apprentice? Good piece but Mercury and Jupiter still my favourites. Thanks for posting these.

  • disney's mickey mouse came from Paul Dukas' music piece: THE SORCERER'S APRENTICE. not from URANUS

  • Yeah Sorcerers apprentice is the actuqal music that is on Fantasia not Uranus.

  • I read somewhere that Holst and Dukas wrote both pieces without hearing the other one, sort of around the same time. A lot of late 1800s and early 1900s classical music is very cinematic and shows up in movie trailers a lot, and I'm pretty sure that John Williams writes in that style. The songs are very similar, though. This and Mars rule the Planets suite
