3ds max etc still profit from their seamless integration into the most powerful rendering engine created till now, pixar's RenderMan.

Since Blender 2.5 has an architecture that should make it relatively easy (at least compared to 2.4 and prev. blender version) to integrate other render engines, blender might start to get recognized once renderman comes to blender.

i'm a 3ds max user. fumefx for 3ds max is still better but oh my god... this program is FREE and it has got EVERYTHING! fluids, fire, great renderer. taking that into account it's 100000 times better than 3ds max where you have to pay like 20.000 bucks to get nearly the same effects.

I don't know the Blender 2.5 renderer but the one of blender 2.4x still does not have global illumination techniques so a nice illumination is quite difficult to set up for the designer. (But you can use many external renderers with really nice render quality like yafaray, kerkythea, etc.)

But Blender has still an awesome feature for a completely free software product.

Customizability and the choice of what 3rd party software to use is one of 3ds max's strong points.

All these things show up when i render the frame, but fail to show up when i press p to test the game. Therefore, the game engine sucks

It has nothing to do with your damn render, changing that wont affect the game, enable glsl, uv map textures to the objects, enable the uv in material settings, The only thing it cant do is particles [well it can, but it will lag or not show up.]

Now Before you say it sucks, learn how to use it, visit Pr3DaToR15 youtube channel and look at the game hes making using only the Blender Game Engine.
