to me zherdev seems exactly like kovalev when he was young, except with slightly slower hands (yes slower). and that's not a knock against zherdev (kovalev is just that good), the guy could be incredible but suffers from the same lack of desire as kovalev, but i think its even worse than kovalev's because atleast kovalev put up good numbers and won a cup. but hey, zherdev could still surprise me.

Somebody dropped the ball in NYR management, probably Sather himself. Young player, high talent, shunned from becoming at least an NHL star by bad decisions. Truly a waste.

The skill level and puck handling is there but, there is something about his personality, he is engulfed almost isolated and that takes a lot out of his game. You wan to be in New York better have some strong working habits or the best will also be let go. Would've been interesting to see him mix and match play in this new batch of rangers, sad for the change, it's only one year.

Well, Jhix88, I do play hockey. I've been playing it for my entire life. As a matter of fact, I play Junior hockey for the Junior Monarchs, so I think I know a little bit about the game. As for your apparent blinded idea of what talent is, he has all the moves, creativity, accuracy with the puck, etc a player needs to be a star in the NHL. The thing is, he has the work ethic of a 4th line ECHL player. He doesn't WANT to get any better. Which is why he isn't winning the Art Ross anytime soon.

Jagr is 6'3, Zherdev is 6'2. Even though Jagr is 240+lbs now, back when he was in his early 20's like Zherdev is now, he was a lot smaller. Zherdev can easily grow and beef up more. I mean, he's only 24.

He has so much talent. Enough talent to at least hit 70 points a year. His problem is his laziness which made him do shit in the playoffs.

If I was Sather, I'd give him one more chance, but I'd definitley not give him around $4.5 million a year; which he wants. And if he doesn't perform consistanly up to the next year's trade deadline, I'd trade him in a heart beat. Get something out of him instead of letting him walk after the season.

Nik really has the talent to make a video twice this long every year. Love him for that, but that's all to his package. His work ethic is questionable at best, and although he is A rated talent, Zherdev has no desire to get better. He is pleased with how well he plays already, and that's why he coasts. If Zherdev was hungry to win and hungry enough to lay it on the line every game, then the talent is there for him to put up much more than 58pts.

Zherdev is currently my favorite ranger, besides Lundqvist of course. He's got great moves, and could be a 40+ goal scorer if he tries hard every night. We know what he can do when he tries, now if torts can just get through to him, he could be a special player. This video illustrates his talent, plus the music is awesome! Zherdev rocks.
