  • Higher FOV = More dynamical looking gameplay, which is of course better.

  • The Reach FOV is actually 78 degrees, which is honestly a fair FOV for console games. Most the time console shooters make the FOV narrow so that they can get away with better graphics, because the more narrow the FOV the less the game has to render.

  • i just like higher fov cuz it makes it look like you run faster

  • maybe the dev just want "balance" in their game and avoiding people get hurt in the eye because not getting used to fish eye? just sayin

  • @ohdudez There is no distortion with a high field of view, only with a mismatched field of view. For any given combination of display size and viewing distance there is an ideal FoV for which there is no distortion.

Console gamers generally have a pretty large display, but they sit very far away. PC gamers sit about 2 feet away from their display and it covers a good 100 degrees or so of their FoV, the game needs to match that.

  • Why are people calling FOV hack? Its no fucking hack OR cheat, you just change the view -.-

  • this is not a very effective way to show the difference. To show the effects you would have to show the game fullscreen

  • What about having a narrow FOV (non-tunnel vision) with triple screen (wide FOV in total)?

  • can you also do this in Halo 2 pc? i have it and need to know :)

  • @AeroFix94

Yes you can do this in Halo2 pc too, I don't remember what the program was but it shouldn't be too hard to find it with google...

  • @Kokkelkhan ok :) thanks!

  • @Kokkelkhan how to do this?

  • @rookie6111

See the bottom of the description. Google the program Sky's the limit 2.0. It's the FOV changer. It only works in the 1.09 custom edition.

  • @Kokkelkhan thank you

  • Mirror's Edge uses 90 as standard i believe. Feels very realistic.

  • Halo's FOV is terrible, I think it's around 50-55. However, having it at 100 is way too much for me, and most people don't like it that way either. The way I see it, the most comfortable zone can range from 60-90 depending on what game it is.

  • @Zookie297 It depends on what monitor you're using. For me, between 90 and 100 is the most comfortable fov setting.

  • But.. In the Halo series you're playing as someone who is always wearing a helmet.. A helmet will almost always limit your FoV..

  • @TheZeroRising realism smealism.....

  • @TheZeroRising Limit your fov to 1/4 of what it normally is? Yeah, cause that would be practical in a real life situation.

  • Very good

  • 80 FOV feels best to me, it doesnt look like im watching a wall, but it isnt like looking into a black hole.....

  • I use to play skyrim vith a 95 degrres FOV, the standard one is real annoying

  • In Unreal Tournament 90FOV is standard

  • its much more difficult to shoot with a high fov because everything is littler

  • @xTott123 but IMO, the enhanced awareness is worth it. I think there should be an FOV selecter like in minecraft, COD, or TF2.

  • Great video.

  • the standadrd FOV in console shooters is mostly 65 or 70...if they would make it 75-80 as a standard it would be perfect!

  • Part of what made the narrow FOV side "lame" might have been the player camping on the upper ledge and only shooting what ran by, as opposed to the other screen where they were running around in the thick of things with lots of explosions.

  • Wow! how to do it?

  • Justice, FOR.THE.WIN!

  • @Hamodey1500

    FOV sucks?

Then play with 0 FOV. Lets see how that works out for you.

  • Oh yah Justice

  • DJ HERO :D

  • game developers=retardedd fags

90 should be a default FOV in FPS games

  • you sire how do you increase the fov for halo combat evolved pc

  • @markuscc u dont understand because you are retarded,so dont you worry your little head about that my son

    peace

  • @markuscc

Yes I understand how it could be considered cheating, and that's sort of the point of the vid. If everyone would be able to change the FOV as they please, would you still see it as cheating? As for you not understanding why do this, well, it I guess it just comes down to a personal preference. The narrow FOV makes me feel like a horse with blinders (or w/e they're called), like tunnel vision.

  • @Kokkelkhan But thats how everybody see so...

  • @Kokkelkhan how to do it this

  • @markuscc

Guess I'm just too used to seeing and being aware of things around me w/o constantly having shift my head left to right. So to emulate this on a screen, I want a higher FOV, obviously that will screw with the pixel ratio and distort the image, but I'm fine with that.

  • Comment removed

  • @Kokkelkhan its not cheating. I need to adjust my FOV because I have a big screen pretty up close, so if I have a high FOV like 90 it looks fantastic

  • @markuscc Low FOV gives me a headache, disorients me and makes me dizzy in intense games, if I was on a 4:3 monitor it'd probably be fine, but on a 1920x1080 widescreen it effects me greatly so I have to have around 90, that's just me though

  • @markuscc when u have 3 monitors.... Like me :)

  • @markuscc Check this video /blZUao2jTGA You'll understand,

  • @markuscc It hast nothing to do with pixels and everything with relative size of the screen: Distance from screen and its actual size. When you're far away from your screen (console gamers) the content has to look like it's far away aswell. But who says you can't sit closer to your screen or just have a really large TV? And on PC being close to the screen is the default. Then when the field of view is low it feels like looking through binoculars.

  • @markuscc That's exactly right, "It's like watching a 4:3 movie on a widescreen TV, it looks ridiculous." Pretty much everybody plays on a widescreen, so having a narrow FOV is just stupid, your FOV should be relative to the size of your screen. A 70 FOV on a 16:9 or 16:10 monitor is just a stupid idea, 85 or 90 is much better.

  • @pilotenhandboek Rubbish; the correct FOV has NOTHING to do with the aspect ratio you chose for your display and everything to do with display size and viewing distance.

It is equally correct to think of a 16:9 display as a 4:3 display that has been extended on the sides as it is to think of a 4:3 display as a 16:9 display that has been extended on the top and bottom. There is nothing inherently superior about either format, they just allocate pixels differently.

  • @markuscc a low FOV also gives some people headaches, especially with high sensitivity. A human has nearly 180 degrees of vision and having just 70 in a game feels very weird (for me at least).

  • @markuscc FOV change doesn't change aspect ratio. It compresses the vertical pixels the same as the horizontal ones. It's more like zooming out.

  • @markuscc perhaps this will help. part1: /watch?v=blZUao2jTGA part2: /watch?v=S1XsPYPGcl0&feature=related

  • @markuscc To give you more of an advantage

  • @Oxygen97 It not for gaining an advantage, it's to prevent motion sickness, dizziness, etc.

  • @IshCoolReviews What? I suffer from motion sickness a lot and i don't think it does anything. It just gives me more of an advantage to see around more.

  • @Oxygen97 A low FOV affects your brain in the same way that blinders do, by cutting down your peripheral vision. Because your brain does not like having its fov cut down by so much, you may experience things like motion sickness, dizziness, etc.

  • @IshCoolReviews So thats how i started to suffer from motion sickness?

  • @markuscc the warping is noticeable only for really high values. why people want to change FOV - because when playing on a PC, you're closer to the screen, so smaller FOV makes you dizzy, motion sick, etc, because it doesn't align with what your brain is used to see in reality. if you play on TV, you're sitting further away from it, so the wider FOV wouldn't align with reality, and the narrower one does.

  • @markuscc it also affects how the turning in game feels. small FOV makes the center of rotation be further away (roughly on you, when you're playing on TV, but BEHIND you when you play on pc), and bigger makes the rotation point closer to screen (roughly on you when on PC,but in front of you when on tv). so on PC in game with small fov, you feel like you were attached on one end of a stick which is being rotated by the other end.this is one of the things that cause the motion sickness.

  • @markuscc about the warping effect - when on pc, you don't have whole screen in center of your vision, the warped edges of image are in peripheral vision where you can't percieve the warping, so you don't even notice it, and in this area the game can provide you image that actually behaves more like your real peripheral vision.

  • @MidnightSt That's not it at all. There is no warping, even with 150 degrees FoV or something insane. You simply have to sit at the correct distance; perspective cancels out the "warping".

At 150 degrees FoV the correct viewing distance is something like an inch or two. That's a very uncomfortable viewing distance, but it is NOT warped.

  • @markuscc It causes things such as nausea, headaches, and dizziness because your brain does not like having its field of view limited by so much. It's like walking around with blinders.

  • @markuscc Its not cheating. Cheating is using godmode, aimbot, wallhack and the like. Lol console gamer.

  • @markuscc uhm you just answered your own question didn't you? your whole point works two ways too. what about users with the aforesaid widescreen TV with a dvd that forces the users to watch it in 4:3 without the option to ratio? it indeed looks ridiculous. not being able to change fov is the main reason no one will buy ie darkness2 on pc.

  • @markuscc FOV isn't just the ratio. It's the angle of information put on the screen. And it is actually a health/comfort thing more than anything else. Having the wrong FOV for a FPS is like wearing someone else's glasses: The world looks warped and you feel kinda sick quickly. The larger or closer a screen is, the higher the FOV should be to keep the proportions of things lined up with what our brains expect.

  • @markuscc Are You Bitch Its To See More Your Hands You PICE OF SHIT!!!

  • @EliteTutorials26 HOW IS BABBY FORMED.

    LERN 2 ENGLUSH PLEEZE.

Also, stop capitalizing every word it makes you look like a retarded tween.

  • @markuscc I have a 32" monitor, anything below 95 seems to give me a head ache, you can argue cheating, but i say its because i shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable while playing video games.

    @EliteTutorials26

Chill the fuck out, i don't see how he is a piece of shit for having a differing opinion mate.

  • @markuscc You're fucking stupid scrub.

  • @markuscc

I think you're thinking about this the wrong way. Viewing a game at a low FOV while close to the screen is not only an unnatural sight, but it's UNHEALTHY.

  • @markuscc you're dumb

  • SONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

  • I added the name of the song and the FOV changer into the description.

  • @Kokkelkhan

what program are you using to change fov

  • How about when you showed where hiding in grass makes you think your hidden from enemy and your not once you step away..........what can I do to get rid of the grass and flowers that are blocking my view of the enemy, but not blocking their view of me ???? I am getting shot a lot lately in Metro by 12 X scopes and the flowers and grass are blocking my views thanks so much for your help, I did the 60 degree view instead of the 90

    and lowered my AA

  • ok all the way up until the end i thought you were trying to communicate how you prefer the lower FOV :S i won't judge your preference but it was a little unclear which one you actually preferred.

good video though, personally i would actually prefer 70 degrees over 100

  • @2J99 Hah yeah I can see how it may seem a bit unclear, but yes I prefer the higher FOV. Ultimately though, the point was to inform people about the subject in general (and ofc to express my opinion aswell). Thanks for your input!

  • Ive been playing BF3 with 90 FOV, I was wondering if using 70 would allow me to see snipers laying on the ground better, as Im getting older and my eyesight isnt what it used to be and before I upgraded my Evga 9800GT's in sli mode to a EVGA 580 series, I could never see anything going on. I also upgraded my monitor to a 120 hz and play the game in that setting. Any help with being able to spot others would be of great help. There is a " color blind" setting I have not tried yet????? Thanks

  • @ctguy1955 The truth is, FoV is mostly relevant to your cone of vision- it's not truly an issue unless playing a game is causing you to be ill. To answer your question though - yes, a smaller FoV would put your "eyes" closer to the enemy character models, making them larger. That could definitely help with not seeing prone enemies. Another benefit of a lower FoV, is it's less intensive on your hardware, as less has to be fully rendered constantly. Regardless, I'll inbox you a couple vids on fov

  • Justice. Hell yeah.

  • How do you change your FOV in Halo CE PC, I'd love to know?

  • Best way to compare FOVs:

Minecraft! You can change it nice and easy in-game, from "Norma" (I'm guessing 70ish) to "Quake pro".

  • justice yeah!!!!!

  • 80 FOV is what i always play on. ;)

  • @cutelilhog the CoDlock at 80? Hahaha, I hear you

  • @meinabucket Says the one that is playing runescape.

  • @cutelilhog Haven't played runescape in ages, Toots. I've been playing CS:S and Promod for years. Why vanilla CoD locks the FoV at 80, as opposed to say 90, I'll never know. But it does, which is why I guessed that. Promod has it set to 90, but that's neither here nor there at this point. I expected better from you, honestly. Even if I did still play runescape, UT04', or even SWBf2, what would it matter? The belief playing one game over another makes you better is not only pathetic, it's idiotic.

  • @meinabucket kaithxbai.

  • You have to make the video with the video on the right more widen or you will get fish-eye effect. 1080p screens is 90 degrees fov more optimized

  • @lotmein20 Yeah, but real life vision isn't constrained to a box.

  • i liek my fov on 85

  • 90 is best to me, looks less distorted and I think is the standard for most FPSes before 1998 or so...

  • how do you change the FOV in halo pc anyways

  • I prefer about maybe 120

  • @lotmein20 I shall start up minecraft right away.

  • 150 FOV quake FTW!

  • @deathlyemo123 150? I prefer 250.

  • @ChiefBada Same, but only in quake. In most other games I use 120.

  • @deathlyemo123 How do you chnage the FOV on Halo Pc then?

  • 100 doesn't look natural. 70 looks more like real life

  • @Niwram Humans' field of view is nearly 180 degrees. Try again.

  • @Orayn yeah, but you only have clear vision in the middle 60deg...

  • @Efemral At the very least, using a FOV of 90-100 with a widescreen aspect ratio does a good job of simulating that plus a bit of peripheral vision. It's a good balance between usefulness and not looking too distorted.

  • Apologies for my lack of communication, and thanks everyone for the comments. For people asking; I used a program called Sky's the Limit to change the FOV (works only in the custom edition of Halo PC), you can find it with google and I suggest everyone to try it, really makes the game much more enjoyable!

  • 90 enough for me

  • how do you change it?

  • 150 is my fave.

  • The video was informative for those who don't know what FOV is and the music was awesome. You deserve an upvote good sir.

  • I don't like how it looks like you are walking faster on 100fov.

  • @JesusFruit10 I lke fast paced gameplay and for some games, ie minecraft, it makes it look more fast paced in way, at least for me ;).

  • How do u change the FOV in halo ce PC?

  • In Minecraft, the maximum FOV level is called Quake Pro.

  • Lol reminds of the days of quake...

  • Is there any way to change fov on CE without a mod?

  • Can you make a longer video with the assault rifle at 100 degrees?? it looks so much better and i have this game for xbox so i can't change my fov as far as i know.

  • 100 degrees FTW it just looks better

  • 70 is fine, and for Halo 70 is the better imo since it also makes the motion tracker have more purpose and we all know, whether consciously or not, that it adds a great dynamic to the game. I will admit that it is nice to see more of the model while doing melee and reload animations. That and as a SPARTAN you would have a slightly wider field of view and be able to see more of your body since you're that much bigger. Thanks for taking the time to put this together though.

  • LOL, I actually like the 70 better.

  • @coltomatica Can you explain why?

  • @Kokkelkhan I prefer 80-90 persoonalaly, for multiple reasons, 1 it looks sexy. 2 you see more, thus making it more competitive... but other than that I Cant think of anything else

  • @Kokkelkhan Because not everyone has 23" monitors to play comfortably in 100 FOV. And not everyone is motion sick. While your message is understandable, your presentation of it calling FOV 70 lame is childish.

  • @MrAnthonyDraft Btw, I play with a 19" 4:3 monitor, and the fish-eye distortion doesn't bother me one bit. Infact when I play Quake 3 I usually set the FOV even higher, up to 130. Oh and the 'childish lame comment' and references to motion sickness were just some lighthearted and exaggerated stuff I used to express my opinion. Anyway, thanks for the comment.

  • @Kokkelkhan whats the song ?

  • @coltomatica It feels a little more intement. More absorbed in to the game. 100 feels a little outstretched and odd imo.
