  • Where does the lovely background music come from?? I have heard it also in the video about the laying out of the squares and I find it very inspiring for making the granny squares! Thanks

  • I am a beginning crocheter, and I LOVE your videos, they are so easy to follow! But I have a question. Can I complete this Granny square using the same yarn through out the whole square? If so, how do I go from the center circle of double crochets (yours is green) to the next part (yours is white)?!

  • @bigmama1261 hello....instead of cutting your yarn complete your circle and then chain up three ...then work two more double crochet into the same hole under the chain 3....same thing in the video only you dont cut you yarn...then continue around following the tutorial...hope that helps Cathy@The Crochet Crowd Helpdesk :)

  • you are the best teacher ever!!!! <3 I'm so excited to start my first afghan project now :)

  • I have been crocheting for a year now and never did I think to weave in the ends as I went along. Never knew it was sooo easy! Also, thanks for the tip on making racks (lol) of circles before moving to the next step.

  • Yet another great tutorial! Thanks Mikey, I just love the way you explain everything. Oh, and by the way, I just love your little boy giggle! Lol.

  • Fabulous!

  • Can you tell me what size square this will make..... and how to figure out how many squares I will need for different size projects

  • i want in home lessons lol

  • little fast

  • thanks mikey, but i m still looking for step by step tutorial which i couldnt find in ravelry.com

  • hey mikey i cant find the link in your post can u plzz send me.

  • @nishakapoor05 if the link isn't working go to raverly.com and search car seat covers the patterns will pop up...if you dont like any you find there then goggle car seat covers and there are probably more out there on the internet....Cathy@ Mikeys helpdesk :)

  • hi mikey, i jus love the way you explain, i have started crocheting recently and enjoying a lot, looking for some acessories for my car , can u suggest me where can i find the car seat cover.

  • @nishakapoor05 I have sent your a post with a link in it for a car seat cover I found on raverly.com ....i cant post links in the comments section for some reason?? :)

  • Thank you! I can do a granny square now and you are my new favourite person! All of your videos are so so awesome!

  • I love how you explain things! I understand it :D

  • Can this pattern be made in a solids, or do you have to use 2 colors?

  • @KnitWolf yes you can do this in solid colors if you want its all about you and your creativity!!!! cathy @ mikeys helpdesk :)

  • i am following this video. im making the first 'circle' step... im going to do like you said, and just make a bunch of them.. but i dont know how many to make for the size blanket i want. what are you suggestions for a baby sized blanket... and an adult size...

  • for some reason, my corners arnt becoming corners!!

they just go thin with the white..

    WHY ?!!

this is my 100000th time going through this video but i cant seem to get it right.

  • Ok I feel really stupid cuz at times he was going way too fast. I felt like pulling my hair out

  • This is the best tutorial i have found on Youtube so far. Lets hope my work comes out the same or similar!

  • Awesome video, thank you so much for posting!!!!

  • Thank you. This is a great video.

  • WOW Mikey! This it the best video I've seen. you explain everything SO well! I now crochet like a pro (well almost) =)

  • i concur this is the 1st time i've watched a tutorial and my work actually came out the same . this is my first time making a granny square nd 2nd time crocheting so im very proud of my self thanks for the help.and good work

  • Really glad I found this!! Brilliant and although my hook is tiny and my yarn is very thin (and could hardly see the hole), I finally made the circle and I'm going to try finishing the square tomorrow :)

Struggled with others videos, too fast and not to the point! Yours was brill however and I feel confident that I can make the start of a granny square :)

    Thank you!!

  • This is the best granny square tutorial ever! As a beginner I needed a real idiots guide, this video was very clear and went slow enough to follow. Thank you for solving the granny square mystery for me :)

  • thank you is not enough to express my gratitude for making it as simple as this. I am a beginner and u made my life easy.

i hope u have illustrations on doiles crochet, which was my dream to come true if i can ever do it.

  • I caught on with this tutorial quicker than I did with the others but that step at about 2:43 was WAY too fast.

  • I want to tell you I been looking and looking to learn to crocet to show my daughter who is handicapped and this video was the greatest help I thank You very much

  • This is definitely the best tutorial I have ever seen for making granny squares. (: Everything is very well-explained, so thank you for making it!

I do have one question though. When I'm making the first round (the center of the granny square), the hole in the middle of the round is not as open as the center you made. Is there a reason for this? Am I not pulling the stitching tight enough?

    Thanks!

  • @WingedShadow343 as you work into the center of your ring the hole will open up.....make sure your chain count is right before you make the ring and then the stitches you add should open it up.....mikeys hole may seem to be a bit more open/bigger because he is using a bulky yarn or a 5ply yarn.......if your using 4 ply it may make the hole appear a bit smaller....as long as you have the ring filled with the right number of stitches you are all set

    chanel @ mikeys helpdesk......

  • @mikeyssmail You're right: I am using a 4-ply yarn. Thanks so much for the response! Because the ply is different, would you recommend a smaller hook? Say, like a 5.5 mm?

  • @WingedShadow343 you don't have to go down in sz for the hook with a 4 ply yarn unless you want the stitches and square to be smaller....in this video mikeys using a J hook ....if you want you could use an I hook or a j sz hook with 4 ply yarn.....i just made this blanket with a J sz hook and 4 ply yarn and it came out amazing.....

  • Thank you! I thought I would never be able to do this. I just made one after watching this video =)

  • I live in Australia and am trying to teach myself to crochet. I have looked at many videos, but yours explains the stitches much better than most. I have made my first circle square and I am thrilled. Keep up the good work

  • Thank you very much... From all I saw on Youtube, your tutorial was most helpful.. I'm a beginner also...

  • Please keep the video's coming! I am able to learn very easily with your teachings!!!

  • I watched several different youtube tutorial's last night and when I came accross these taught by mikeyssmail I finally was able to crochet a circle granny square. He shows step by step & takes the time to explain each step. The other tutorial's seemed like they were going through it to fast, not explaining the stitches or where to place the next stitch. I was so proud of myself when I completed the fist square, thanks to the help of this tutorial. Thank you 4 taking the time to teach me.

  • This is the first granny square I have ever completed and looked good, thank you so much!!!!

  • Your teaching style is clear, concise and friendly. I learned the "basics" of crocheting over the weekend and I intend to master the Granny Square this afternoon with your help. Your videos are some of the finest I have seen to date on the web. Thanks for sharing your love of handicrafts with others. Laura.

  • Thank you! You're a wonderful teacher, and I love this pattern! Please keep the video's coming!

  • This is the best tutorial for learning with! I am new to crochet, I was wondering if there is a written pattern for this square? then I can also study the pattern as I am having trouble reading patterns yet I can follow this pattern easy by video..Thank you xx

  • @StrawberryFlower2009 sorry there isnt a written pattern for this square..... I sometimes watch the videos that dont have written patterns first and write down what to do so i have a written copy if I need it!!

    hope that helps :)

    chanel@mikeys helpdesk......

  • G'day, I've crocheted since I was a kid but today your tutorial taught me the things that have never been explained.. A revelation! Many thanks.

  • Thanks, great teaching...keep up the good work...I sat and crochet as you went along, and paused you when needed...thanks again...

  • I have a question about the granny squares circles. Can you use 4ply worsted weight yarn? Thank you for this lesson.

  • @jlp1994able hello this is chanel from mikeys helpdesk.........you can use 4ply worsted weight yarn....go for it!!! :)

  • Mikey you are awesome! I just finished my first granny square. Great instructions, directions, and tips! I learned more from you than a crochet instructor at the local high school. Thanks

  • your wearing pink let me say that again PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKK!

  • I just made my first Granny Square thanks to you!! :)

    awesome sight!!!!

  • Mkay, I know I already posted BUT I went out and got the yarn today. The Bernat was a little too pricey so I got LionBrand "Jiffy" instead. I already have the circles for one colour done and some of those are completed squares. ^.^ I wanted to thank you again! I did have one question, how much yarn did you have left over from the 16 skeins? I wanted to know if I might have enough left over for a 16x16 pillow. I hate having to match dye lots!

    Thanks again!

    Charmaum

  • @Charmaum You will have every colour left in almost a full ball except for the main colour (in my case white).

  • @Charmaum its hard to tell how much yarn you will have left at the end of a project!

your best bet is to wait and see what you have left when you finish! good luck with your projects

    Chanel @mikeyssmail helpdesk!

  • Mikey I <3 you. I've been crocheting for ten years and I learn by watching someone else work through a pattern. If it weren't for you I'd still just be doing regular granny squares (that honestly didn't even look very great until I watched some of your tutorials). But with your help I've really improved. Thank you again. :)

  • that is so pretty. =)thanks a bunch. you have given me so many good tutorials in the past yrs. thanks mikey. i will have to make a video and show all the things i have made over the yrs. you are awesome!

  • They should have a who referred yah on Bernat site just spent 140.00 on a bunch of yarn. You inspired a new blanket idea :)

  • This square is pretty. I have never done a circle to square. I always do the traditional small square to a few rounds maybe 5 for a basic granny square. I don't have to think that way. :) but I'm going to try this one. Do you have a tutorial for flat braid joining? for squares?

  • @christineshires hi from mikeyssmail helpdesk: search for how to attach granny squares, method two, continuous join on youtube......i hope this is what you r looking for

    good luck!

    Chanel~

  • @ptsgrl2495 thank you very much. I have been looking for this way instead of just sewing them toghether one at a time.

  • will do this one in a bit when I am finished with my other blanket almost done lol will post the one I finished got to finish the rest then will post whole blanket when finished

  • Thank you so much! I am So happy that you did a step by step of this. I have watched so many YouTube videos on how to do the granny square and I could not understand any of them.. Love your videos!!

  • Ooohh, this will be great for X-Mas gifts! Thank you. Always enjoy and learn from your videos.

  • thanks for sharing
