• It the land of our ancester's and no Vietnamese will say you are not welcomed back to Vietnam. It dosn't matter where you live now. It all about our nation futureand no nation would stop the progress of Vietnam. Let not let this so call pride to devide our people. Make our ancester's proud and our people prosperous!!! and please no hate as it show you are blind. Not everything you see are the truth communism or democratic. Action mean more than words!!

  • In times of great need I will come back and save my country! I've been living in the US for about 14 years now and it's great. I recently visited Vietnam to visit my grandma and it was pretty good. When the president or something that recentl died, they clsed the amusement park and I said he's just a person it doesn't mean you close all the businesses just to mourn this guy and my family told me not to sY anything cause I might get sent to jail lol.

  • After the Soviet Union's collapse in 1991, the communist authority in Vietnam switched to its big brother Red China, a new leader of a few remaining communist nations including China, North Korea, Vietnam, Laos, and Cuba, for China's backup to remain in power in Vietnam. There are ten divisions of more than 100,000 Chinese troops disguised as mine workers in the central highlands, who will repeat another Tiananmen Square massacre in case Vietnamese revolt against the communist regime.

  • PLEASE GO TO "Loi tam huyet Le Thi Cong Nhan Part 1" CLIP AND LISTEN TO HER MESSAGE. SHE IS SO BRAVE AND SHE'S FIGHTING FOR A JUSTICE IN VIETNAM.

  • Lol totaljunkie, a new flag with rice branches in the middle representing king of rice. I call for a new political system, a non Communist non Democratic system that we can all agree on, why don't we Vietnamese devise our own, we're smart enough, common guys think. I'd like a system that still retain the cultural uniqueness and collective conscience of VN, one that will ignite the engine of the economy running on warp speed while the people have to suffer as little as possible.

  • LIAR!LIAR!LIAR! VN continues to carry out its inhumane, oppressive policies to silence (some cases literally)any voice that presses for human rights. VN needs not only put forth economic reforms but political reform as well-such as allowing for a multi-party system. Until then, its economic engine will fully be efficient and potential undeterred.

  • Tội xin kêu goi dân Viêt Nam hãy đứng lên lât đổ chế độ cộng sản bạo tàn hiếp dân. Đem tư do lại cho Viêt Nam. Viêt Nam muôn năm

    Tội ủng hộ khối 8406

  • I know I am tired at looking at those old flags of VNCH and VC. They to me represents oppression, weakness, corruption, division. A new flag with blue background for openess, the sky the limit, and a 3 branch-bunch of bo' lu'a dignify vua lu'a of Asia.

Vietnamese people want a "government by the people, of the people, and for the people."

  • Kimsama4! Please stop saying nonsense here! you dont have to deal with this problem! YOu are the ignorant! not us. How do u know we dont love our country? just becuz we protesting and not cooperate with the communist? Would you cooperate with the one who killed your love ones? Oh, and you said u are part of Native American, so please worry your own life, and oh maybe your teepee too!

  • kimsama4:

we respect our ancestor. We reverance our past proud history

of Cong Rong Chau Tien. You should notice that not once in your life that

you hear Dang Cong Sang Chu Nghia Vietnam acknowledge our about ancestor. In fact, you

mostly hear about Uncle Ho, and Soviet Union-- really Soviet is not Vietnamese, don't praise them.

  • We know human right in Vietnam isn't good and the government has to improve it. But poor Vietnamese refugees in the State who oppose the regime in their native country are worse. Here they're known as defrauders, murders and drug dealers. It is dangerous to come to a building where dirty Vietnamese live. You might lose money or your life. Before my brother travelling to Vietnam I thought all of Vietnamese are gooks. Now I change my mind.

  • As a young Vietnamese-American, I too feel such shame to see our country at its current state (under communist rule). Triet's visit brought hidden matters to the surface; I hope it paves the way for a new revolution. Its very important to stand united at this point to fight for our country's future... To not let the freedom fighter (aka hero's) who have sacrificed for a better VietNam feel that their efforts are in vain. Pls, join me in this crusade!

  • Oh, I forgot that the vast majority of you responding negatively here don't have any pride at all, except the callow, baseless pride of youth. I guess that goes to show how much Vn-American parents indoctrinate their children with anti-Vietnamese propaganda. Disgusting! Think for yourselves!

P.S. REAL Americans pride themselves on being open-minded, not judging others based on their country of origin. If you wish to judge someone based on their heritage, then please don't call yourself American.

  • Where is your respect for your ancestors, who lived there for thousands of years? Don't you want to help Vietnam become a country in which Vietnamese people can fulfill their dreams and reach their full potential? Because your whining and b*tching is certainly not going to make that happen. Only your dedicated service and support will.

  • I am really ashamed to see all the ignorance and mean-spiritedness coming from the Vietnamese Americans in these comments. I am dispirited to see that, instead of attempting to help Vietnam, their motherland, they are attacking it. I am sad that Vietnamese Americans apparently don't have the same love for their motherland that almost all other Americans have. I know that if Italy, England, or America (yes, I'm part Native American) ever needed my help, I would support them in a heartbeat.

  • Somebody said that Vietnameses who travel back to VN will have problem with the law, that's wrong. Don't U see that many people already go back and they're really enjoy and suceed. But if U bring drug or gun with U, even U go to England or Thailand, U will be crime.

  • to lovetudark ! you are idiot, aren't you? Hey ,look at your country America. Whatever you said, it happens in America too. The distance between poor people and rich people in America is longer than VNese. The members of government can use expensive cars, live in big house while every cities has Homeless who live in bus stop, use cart to carry thier staples, and have bad smell

  • if you are American,VN is not your country, so it's not your business, forget it. i think you should help the government to solve the problems of American. The U.S now has more problems than VN, so you must take care your country before "chĩa cái mặt" về VN. cái đó gọi là "ăn cơm nhà đi lo chuyện thiên hạ đó" hiểu ko

  • I think that what mr.Triet has said in USA to ia a lie.I am living Vietnam.I want to talk frankly to everyone in the world that when Communist still take power in Vietnam there is no humain right in Vietnam at that time.

  • My coworker is in his forties and immigrated to the US from Vietnam and raised his family, here. He used to visit his family there every year but is now too scared to go, anymore. He says a lot of things about Vietnam that are truly depressing. I hope it gets better for you guys. If all else fails, you are welcome here. You really are.

  • to young vietnamese people. you should study and work hard, try your best to do something good for viet nam rather than just think it is not good every day. if you really love viet nam . just go back and help people there. if you can not do the good thing for them so please dont do a bad thing. I wonder that wherether if vietnam has two party, those vietnamese-american guy will ready to go back ?????. if they say "yes" I wonder that why they did not go back now??????

  • quynhon1

you are never been a leader ! ha ha.

to the tourism. you should take a trip to viet nam atleast one time in your life. it is one of the most beautiful and peaceful place. the vietnamese in viet nam are very friendly, you are welcome there.

  • Quang cao dan ba Viet Nam voi chiec ao dai, chung to Nguyen Minh Triet va Dang Cong San chu truong dung phu nu Viet ...khong ao dai lam no le tinh duc, ga ban, chieu du khach nuoc ngoai...de kiem dollars bo tui va nhau nhet.

  • nguyen minh triet is a good man, who have done much to help viet nam expand it's economy.

  • I'm sicken and tired of these HUMAN RIGHT GROUP keeps put the stick on Vietnameses' buttock. Where are they when French invaded Vietnam? Where are they when American invaded Vietnam and kill millions? Where are they on Patriot Act? Guantanamo? These HRGs are political tools, leave VIETNAM alone!

  • where did u learn history, in vietnam ? if so what have learned was all fake

  • They were probably never born yet... ;)

  • President Nguyen Minh Triet is cool guy. I like him !

  • lol...

  • poeple who still think VC's doings are correct needs to ask themselves "why viet poeple escapes from Vietnam to other countries to seek for freedom"...I'm surprise Nguyen Minh Triet still has the guts to speak about his jungle laws.

  • "DO NOT LISTSEN TO WHAT THE COMMUNISTS HAVE SAID, LOOK CLOSELY TO WHAT THEY HAVE DONE" This is the famous sentense that all vietnamese alway keep in their mind

  • I'm a Vietnamese student studying in Australia. All I desire is my country becomes a developed country. Someday, I surely come back Vietnam to help my country

  • aussiev: I think it's time to build new Vietnam. No more VNCHXHCN, No more VNCH. These govnmnts have destroyed VN, put VN backward so many decades. Everyone wants a better Vietnam. Let's build a new Vietnam with new young talented leaders to lead the people to the next economic power of Asia. Eradicate bribery and corruption. Build prosperity and happiness for all VNmese people. Let the past begone! No more hatred among us.

Let's have a new flag, a new national anthem. Please post if you agree.

  • How do you know that a new flag and a new national anthem make a better Vietnam? What is your plan? Installing a new government with the "young and talented" Vietnamese Americans who don't even speak Vietnamese fluently? What do they know about life of the Vietnamese people living in Vietnam (not the Vietnamese people elsewhere) and what they want?

  • I did not say a new flag and a new national anthem will make a better VN. Aren't you tired of looking at those old flags? They represent division among VNmese. It's time to let the past go, and look to the future. I'd suggest a new flag with blue back ground that represents openness, the sky the limit, in the middle, a two-hand holding three branches of golden wheat that means vua lu'a of Asia. ANd the song Vietnam, Vietnam of Pham Duy the new anthem...

  • Vietnamese people want "a government by the people, of the people, for the people". Hope it will be one day....

  • YES!!! And freedom of speech and human rights!!!

  • "President Bush has made democracy and human rights the centerpiece of his foreign policy" LMAO! ... Oh God! Wait! I'm rolling on the floor laughing! :D Secret torture prisons, labelling prisoners enemy combatants and prisons detention centers to avoid human rights laws, acting unilaterally to wage an illegal war of aggression, the facts don't match that statement.

  • If you're interested in learning more about U.S./Vietnamese relations and recent issues like the Agent Orange case against American chemical companies check us out at PulitzerCenter!

  • Does anyone hear the story that just happen recently at Vietnam?? It is real. During the New Year, a member of the government spend a real big amount of money just to buy CAY MAI (i dont know that word in english, but it is a kind of plant) as the gift for their friends. THE QUESTION IS: WOULD THEY USE THAT KIND OF MONEY TO HELP POOR PEOPLE???

  • Ahh

  • I am A Vietnamese and it is true that Vietnam follow the communism and U.S.A follow democracy, but after all what is the different?? It just that communism do not allow people to protest the government.

  • There is a huge difference...Look at the US where democracy exist, and look at VN under communist rule? COmpare both countries growth in all aspects? it's that clear.

  • are you stupid or not to compare VN and USA in term of development? Did you finish your high school?

  • Those member of governments is nothing but a bunch of liar, two faces, sit there do nothing but still earn money ( look how much they dress up during parades of some holiday), while the poor have nothing to eat, kids cant go to school because their family too poor to afford the money. I dont care what kind of government they have could they at least consider if they are doing something good for their people!!

  • my dad says he's a liar and needs to go back home. I myself, am Vietnamese.

  • Thank you, well said, felt the love.

  • Too bad, he admitted that Vietnam is still the oppressed society where dissidents and democracy advocates are prosecuted and thrown in jails for 'violating communist laws' ... Laws are NOT

    the same everywhere ... LMAO

  • Communism is never okay. Phan Van Khai, the former president visited America a few years ago about the WTO as well. (Sorry if someone commented about that already.)

  • Hey Guys . Schools in Vietnam are not Free . Thats why they are so poor and stink . Not many Vietnamese Children can go to school. I'm lucky that i went to schoo but i hated it .The teachers are so racist about poor and rich students

  • Those Rich Vietnamese are getting rich from Poor people. Poor people dont have a thing . THey Have to go to other Asia countries to find a job. You should see Van Son Documentary . And You will see the truth from Poor Vietnamese and their lives in Asia Countries

  • wat the heo? im vietnamese. In Vn ,they force us to study those lie history and be a good citizen and stuff.Anyone who doesnt follow Communist or obey the laws will be sitting in jail.

  • Criminal must be purnish, what the heck do they keep asking about? Obey the law, everywhere is the same. Those protesters in CALI are traitor of the country and the people. We respect their opinion. But the law is the law!!!

  • For those who oppose and demonstrate against Mr. Nguyen's visit are ignorants; they do not have the education to further understand the politics nor they have the love for their country and the fellow Vietnamese; they selfishly seek for their own personal vengeance.

  • VNRock...Criminals belong behind bars, but not people who just want to exercise their right to freedom of speech or simply just want religious freedom. What laws prohibit people from speaking up or to practice religion? Don't use jungle laws and kangaroo courtrooms as an excuse to oppress innocent people.

  • "criminal" must be punish. Good. Unfortunately, in VN, asking for basic human rights is a crime. Speaking the truth is a crime.

In a country where there is only one political party and the government and the party is the same, what kind of law do you think VN have? For the Vietnamese people who traveling back to VN, good luck. One of these days, you will be next.

  • Jvietstylz,im sure that u know nothing abt Vietnam. If u're a Vietnamese,or at least u know abt Vietnam just a lil' bit more,u'll see what the Communisme has done 2 us.I don't refuse that there're some bad individuals in the Communisme, but most of our leaders complete well their tasks to the country. And if u ever know how Vietnam was abt 2 years ago,u'll see how quickly the living standard of Vietnamese rises nowadays!

  • I think young Vietnamese people who live outside VN should pay a visit to our motherland at least one time. The war is over. Let us forget about the past and co-operate with each other to make a stronger nation. Communism or capitalism is ok when the govt. have the true love for their own people. Currently, we are facing a far greater communist opponent in the north, turn against with each other wont help our own nation much.

  • True, true

  • i visited in November of 2005. Hanoi really is a beautiful place to go.

  • Do you think the Goverment should return their parent's properties to the young people who lives outside VN. Re-education Camp makes many scars. How can they forget the past if they don't see the future

  • Well, they might have to suck it up. Can forget the past if they don't see the future? Who can see the future? WTF is this?

  • IF their intention is to truly build a better VietNam, why now? They've been in power for more than 30 years. WHat have they done for the people and for Vietnam as a whole? We remain one of the poorest countries in the world, but yet the leaders of the communist party collectively have become milti-billionaires.

  • Devilboy...why would I want to help your nation when your worthless leaders still oppress people and deny them the most essential and fundamental rights? Even a slightly smart person would recognize that. And stop saying that VN's living standards are rising because it is a lie. In a country where freedom and human rights don't exist, there can't be any life. VN needs to stop controlling the people, let them have a mind of their own, let them speak from their hearts.

  • My family used to own a huge fabric factory in VN before 1975. We lost everything when the communists came. But i have to admit that live is getting better and better in my country. The freedom of speech is improving slowly step by step. You can do anything you want, except doing things against the govt.

  • vietnam is safe and secured place to visit in Asia.

    thanks

  • vietname is very secured and peaceful place in Asia. Thanks to vietnamese governments.

  • Well not really most of vietnam.

  • At the end of the Vietnam war, the Viet Cong systematically took revenge on the south. South Vietnamese soldiers were rounded up into re education camps where many died, were tortured, suffered illnesses, disease and imprisoned for years. The Viet Cong pushed people out of their homes and seized people's lands. The communist's list of crimes against the Vietnamese people is ENDLESS.

  • This is really poor PR, no much attention for him on the TV, rarely understand what he said, the translator did a poor job to broadcast the message, lack of the LEADERSHIP CHARISMA, his smiles were a bit distant and dishonest when addressing the Human right issue.

  • Some countries think that qualities such as competence are more important than vague "charisma" in their leaders. You can witness this with Hu Jintao as well. You can witness the opposite (all charisma and no competence) by looking at George Bush.

  • be equitable and fair, use their profits to teach and give their citizens a real education to open their minds, and enabling them to see each and every single one of us, for who we really are: human beings. Take care and keep up the good fight. Zenseeker

  • So just like we want to hold President Bush accountable for his actions, we should also hold President Triet accountable for his actions, when his term is up. The world is yearning for truth, and I hope for humanity's sake, all presidents of all countries everywhere, should take heed and listen to the will and hearts of their people

  • Because you guys, we are not just Vietnamese, or Vietnamese Americans, or Americans...we are all people, just people: regarless of our color, orientation, religion, political affiliation, or philosophical beliefs. Deep down, we all want to be free. The freedom to act, the freedom to speak, but the price for that freedom, albeit sometimes illusory, is that ultimately we must also be held accountable for our actions.

  • How can there be? You can only win or lose if you have something to gain..., either in material, physical or mental form. So if you feel like you have to win or feel like winning, in such a calamity, then it reveals how elastic your moral compass can be. On memorial days, we all mourn for the people we love, we miss their presense, their thoughts, ideas and imperfections.... (Read more at zenwire or opednews, or at VnTube trying to make the world a better place for all of us.)

  • it took a long time to even begin the process of understanding who won and who lost, black or white, right or wrong, for I can see it from both sides and had to come to terms with it both. And when I did finally figured it out, I realize, in actuallity, there was no winners...no one can win in such a war. 3 millions Vietnamese dead and 55,000+ drafted dead, not even counting the wounded and deformed and scarred for life. There was no winners here.

  • I have written a lot about this ghost of Vietnam, and about who won and who lost (at opednews(dot)com/author/author2044.html, zenwire(dot)com, and now vntube(dot)com) and believe me when I say that I feel the pain from both sides. Here is some of it: Because for me, being American and Vietnamese,

  • Many kids going around collecting trash, selling lottery tickets, etc. Because their family is poor and they have to work. School is only free from ages 6-11 and because of having to pay many don't even get to go to school. People starve and work only to earn merely a few dollars a day. A regular one day dinner for us is usually a month's worth of dinner for a family.

  • Oh I thought that they made Vietnam into a US state when they won the war...

oh thats right. THEY LOST LOL

  • In response to some of the comments, it isn't terrible in Vietnam for everyone. My cousin, just came here last summer from Vietnam. Even now, after a year in our country, she still prefers Vietnam to the USA.

However, I'm sure Vietnam, as is the case in every country, could use improvement. If the current president proves to be capable (I don't follow politics to be honest), then I'm sure Vietnam has the promise to become a powerful country.

  • My family is from Vietnam. I've seen alot of pictures of Poor Vietnamese people who has no homes and everything.

  • if the western invest heavyly in vietnam, in return the vietnamese will have a better life and living standard in vn will be better. Who know VN may be the next mini tiger country in south east asia.

  • oh you guys should see the protest in callifornia because of him

  • Why doesn't anyone protest CHINA???

  • dude, have you even been to China? there's not much wrong with China...

  • Why? Because it has to do with Vietnam War. Asking communists why Vietnamese escaped from Vietname for freedom.

  • many of the young vietnamese people were raised to believe that ho chi minh was a hero, and we may say that's brainwashing. but it's no worse than the brainwashing done to us by the pre-1975 generation of vietnamese living now in america or elsewhere. i recently lived in vietnam for 2 years after graduating college, and i've formed my own independent opinion based on my experiences there -- not those of my family. our generation needs to start thinking for ourselves or we'll never make progress.

  • life in vietnam is improving dramatically for the people there -- and not just the communists. a visit from the president should be welcome because it encourages additional foreign investment and further opportunities for the vietnamese people.

  • The war was over ! The VIETNAMESE people though live any places in the world are also the VIETNAMESE ! Now, it's the time to unite together, not compare between the VIETNAMESE people inside or outside of the VIETNAM country ! We all are VIETNAMESE, so combine to develope our motherland - VIETNAM. It's more useful and meaningful too ! PLEASE, THINK OVER AND DON'T GIVE ANY SORROWS TO MY VIETNAM ANYMORE !

  • The war was over ! The VIETNAMESE people though live any places in the world are also the VIETNAMESE ! • Thats why you all vietnamis should come to poland :] we love you all!

  • Hey, im vietnamese, and so far, of all the vietnamese's i know, their all good people, hardworking people. We like peace ^^

  • I'm viet people who lifes in Finland cuz my parents have to move here cuz of that far. they havent place to life anymore..

  • There were no reason to explain a prolong presence of a foreign Army on one's sovereign land, and no one can stop or deny the quest of unification of the people of a divided country. That was VN, that was the war, that was the Victory and the Unification. And now it is the Rebuilding process....

  • misterkaiyo, more than anyone else, I know how it is really like to live in my homecountry. U say "the Vietnamese people aren't able to in Vietnam." Just can't get u ,but really really please don't speak as if you were a Vietnamese representative, unless at least you are Vietnamese. No offense. It's just that, ... it's sad... when people think Vietnamese are sad living under the gov. or whatsoever. The fact is the opposite.

  • People in the world like to talk about Vietnam War. They don't know how Vietnam is so safe and peaceful now. Whether which side is right or wrong, war is terrible to every civilians, so all of Vietnamese want to forget that part and move on. Please let us do so, world :)

  • It's funny when sb says i have to read history first before arguing or sth. Coz I am a true Vietnamese. And I am proud to be a Vietnamese :)

Anyway, argument on religion, nationality... can be very emotional, u can see how people fight for their religion all over the world. This article is FYI:

  • this guy is full of lies, why won't they let the Gospel to be spread, and yet he says religous views freely practice in Vietnam.

  • I know that the communism sucks in Vietnam, mainly for the poor. He is just looking for more world money for him and his friends. They need to invest more more money in development of the country and not their pockets. There is so much potential in Vietnam, I hope that next time I visit, the country becomes more developed.

  • Human Rights, Freedom, Human Resources and Trade needs to be part of the solution.

  • I hope he relaxes, urges and gives the Vietnamese people the opportunity to become brilliant people and gain the rewards for producing a strong, peaceful and friendly Vietnam. Vietnam does have a lot of potential and I hope he proves and gives those that doubt the people wrong. You know when the people are well and happy and you know when they are not.

  • Vietnamse people now want to make friend with every people in the world. We love peace!

  • Do NOT listen to this fool. His Govt. Will steal your money and jail you as they wish. His govt. will rob you straight up. My family member was a victim of the robbery that His govt. was the suspects. And there is nothing that we can do about it because his govt. operates on jungle laws. How sad.

  • Thanks to the land reform , millions of Vietnamese people escaped from the life of being slaves for rich land-owners, most of who followed Japanese imperialists and French colonists. Thank you the Vietnam Communist Part, one of the best Communist Parties in the world history.

  • I have been living in vietnam since i was young. The viet government always talk behind the American back, especially after the vietnam war. They teach other viet to hate Americans more, but now their here to co-operate with the United States. Please when they get human rights or when they actually drop the communist than America should maybe...and I say maybe. Co-operate. I am an AMERICAN VIETNAMESE. Please do not talking about my American ancestors.

  • You cant trust what this president says because me being a vietnamese i know that the government is just all talk and no action.....the vietnamese corps sits and talk collecting $ from the poor and watching the poor day by day suffering w/ no help.....there should be no communist president their should be a democracy

  • agreed

  • I agree. The people in charge NOW are corrupt. How the heck can they afford to pay 6 digits (in USD) for USED CARS when the rest of the country is depicted as third-world?

  • Niglets51 I whole heartedly agree

  • I was just in Vietnam. The poor are helped tremendously. No one starves in Vietnam. I was impressed, and would like to apologize for American transgressions and atrocities committed there. We have the same situation all over again now in Iraq.

  • Wow, I didn't know it was like that over there in Vietnam. I guess that's a great example of how a brave, yet dissadvantaged nation can "recover" with American blessing!

  • You're a fool if you think this is a direct result of the US. I know people who live/lived there. It's not.

  • How long ago were you there? My family over there is rich due to my parents sending money over. But the people living around them are extremely poor. I'm not sure if they are starving I doubt it. But the living conditions are horrible.

  • The poor are NOT helped tremendouly in Vietnam. Children are left to support their own well-being by selling rice cakes from morning to dusk just to make a measely dollar or so. By having to do this they have to forgo school...please explain how the poor are helped to better clarify. I agree with zapblater, "The wealthy families either have successful relatives from other countries sending money into the country or they are higher ranking communist officials."

  • how about the unlucky ones everywhere else?

  • U agree with him??? BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

  • The Viets are admiral people ,courageous & hard working, I think the US owes them a great deal & should face up to the damage they caused !

  • I agree with you maggie642. At least, your statement is the most intelligent and politically correct. I applaud you and back you off 100%.

  • thanks for that cam on(it means thank you in vietnameese) oh yes we also have people that are poor the way u describe the vietnameese people...im one of them we r poor we work hard and brave and admiral

  • After my visit to vietnam, one thing was very clear... The wealthy families either have successful relatives from other countries sending money into the country or they are higher ranking communist officials.

  • Agree.

  • I am a half viet american, and I just returned from visiting my family in vietnam ealier this year. When I hear my cousins spouting off tons of communist propaganda it sickens me. They say things like Ho chi minh knew 6 languages before he was ten... communsits bring wealth...

  • to zapblaster! You are still consider to be so lucky, because all of the B.S about how brilliant and how perfect the communist was and still is has been preaching over and over for almost 70 years now, and still being brainwashed the younger generation! Stupidity is their weapon against demnoracy and truly prosperity in Vietnam. They used to use hunger as their weapon before!

  • If we want to know exactly about the situation in VN, just take a tour there an we will know how it is. About politic, only 1 party is not really good, but it's table and peaceful at the moment. At least we feel save and we don't see any group killing the people on the streets because of politic like Thailand, Pakistan or other developing countries at the current time.

  • long life vietnam! you must develop to earn the respect!

  • man I hope we get out of communist crap soon cause I had it. and I wish this guy would stop translating because I just want to hear our president speak. this guy pronounce vietnamese wrong, he said vietnam mese lol.

  • It's true that some how the freedom of speech in VN is poor but it's improving step by step. Capitalism or Communism wont give better lives unless the goverments really have the love for their own people. I think it's time for us, Vietnamese, to forget about the past and get along with each other for the shake of a stronger and richer nation

  • IM VIET!

  • Ho Chi Min wanted independence for his country, he initially asked for US support, and even used the US declaration of independence in one of his speeches, but the US refused to back him as Vietnam was still a French colony and the French threatened not to back the USA in Europe in the case of a Soviet attack if the USA meddled in Frances colonial affairs. What this has to do with the trip? I have no idea, just a bit o history

  • dont you just love this guy? makes me feel warm and fuzzy

  • ?????

  • yu85jp.. they beat people in Singapore for being individuals, i guess nazis enjoyed living in Germany enormously until free nations educated them on the right way to express individualism. I will agree that what the US did in Vietnam was reprehensible, but not nearly as bad as what the North Viet. did to the Southern Vietnamese*(mass graves needed)

  • Well, let's see what I can say about VN communism...Land reform in North VN - tens to hundreds of thousands lives, re-education camps - hundreds of thousands lives. Oh, remember the boat people who died at sea in their quest for freedom? That's history that VN can't never erase. They might be afraid to commit those crimes openly, but as a tourist, u don't know what's really going on behind closed doors.

  • Thanks to the land reform , millions of Vietnamese people escaped from the life of being slaves for rich land-owners, most of who followed Japanese imperialists and French colonists. Thank you the Vietnam Communist Part, one of the best Communist Parties in the world history.

  • And what makes you think individualism is so good? Its part of western culture, but only west, Western political system have not successfully been implemented on any country outside of west culture sfer, unless that country is long term occupied by the USA. Not a single nation have western standard outside of that sfer.

  • Bye the grace of God your are too contrived. But good effort.

  • the interpretor sounds a bit like arnold schwarzenegger

  • i love vietnam people know better cause viet's are kind and nice we dont judge people cause the coler of their skin but there actions.

  • Yu85jp, We are not discussing about Vietnam being your bosses' retirement getaway; it's about protecting Vietnamese people and giving them freedom and stability. Here in America I am able to write whatever I want, like you have proven to the rest of us with your empty comment. It is truly a blessing being able speak your mind; sadly, the Vietnamese people aren't able to in Vietnam. Please read the history books before posting anything. Facts are the foundation of a strong argument.

  • Belgium ???????

  • With the fall of the Soviet Union and emnity with Communist Red China, Vietnam is desperate for US investments. Let's be practical. Give them nothing until a full and complete disclosure of all war records and the disposition of captured US GIs and also what they did to their own people after the war.

  • Vietnam!!! Ho Chi Minh

  • The US did help Vietnam to beat back the communist, show us Vietnamese that there was a democracy way of life instead of radical communist ideology. The North Vietnam with the back up of Russia and China invaded the south to implement their communist doctrine, not for the country's independent or democracy. After 30 years of bloody war destroyed the country natural resources and killed couple million of people, they did learn the capitalist system, but just to line-up their pockets.

  • I agree with you. Ho Chi Minh used the excuse: "to unify Vietnam" to invade South VN. Northern people, who became his followers for one reason: escape poverty. Saigon was the Pearl of Asia and like thieves, they stole something that they could never get on their own.

  • communism works, people dont.

  • Communism is a tool of repression and hopelessness for millions, all for the sake of a few at the top.

  • Vietdrifta57, you could have not said it any better. These so-called leaders are draining the country resources to keep their Switz accounts healthy. The original intent of communism is indeed good, but the Viet Congs have perveted this idea in order to justify their cause to start a civil war; in the end the only ones that benefited from this are the so-called leaders like Mr.Nguyen Minh Triet and leaving tens of millions Vietnamese in misery.

  • Not to mention the perks of being "in-charge" like his Commie Buddies paying $400,000+ for a USED Maybach.

  • we've been to India,Thailand ,Lao ,Vietnam and China, but Vietnam is the best place .Wow,a cool country !. We visited Hanoi, Hochiminh City,Phantiet. Hochiminh is one of the new Asian boom towns and it's changing rapidly, becoming modern quite quickly. People in Hanoi are perhaps not as easy going as people in Hochiminh but they are more hospitable and friendly.Every guest is welcomed when visits a Vietnamese family without saying before. Very --very cheap here. New laptop-$ 200 !

  • Ahem. The real name is Saigon not Ho Chi Minh <---the full name of Commie number one who was the equivalent of Mao Tse-tung of China. Stuff's cheap because for one the government doesn't know what the heck it's doing.

  • Someone posted this comment:

"Thằng cha này và bè lũ Cộng Sản chỉ có tài nói láo, bịp bợm dân chúng và quốc tế thôi. Đi đâu cũng xòe tay ra van xin mà chẳng biết xấu hổ. Hãy để nhân dân có tự do dân chủ. Dân sẽ xây dựng đất nước, không cần chúng mày!"

    Could someone translate this?

I can barely even pronounce the language especially with all the tones.

  • Thanks to elevensmiles11's ignorant comments have lead me to sign up with Youtube. You obviously know nothing about Vietnam, my country. You speak as if you were representing the communists; they are the reason why we don't live in Vietnam to begin with. Please learn your history and get your facts straight before posting anything online.

  • wow, 1st visit since the war...wth? i'm half viet, but it's funny how when i say i'm asian people automatically think i'm philippino, even though i don't look like it.

  • This is great we get to see this.

  • There have been other visits to the US by the Vietnamese Prez since 1975. This isn't the first

  • didn't president khai visit a couple of year back and like a whole bunch of vietnamese protester showed up at the whitehouse?

  • maybe because u guys never live in Viet Nam before... news from all kinds of newspaper are not trustworthy, unless u live there and u 'll really see how nice to live in Viet Nam. I live in Singapore, and 10 out of 10 Singaporean who have visited Viet Nam before really fall in love with it, my singaporean boss even plans to retire there.

  • "news from all kinds of newspaper are not trustworthy", so as the 600 newspapers in Vietnam

  • I find it a little disturbing that he has pointed out how attractive Viet women are in ao dais... it's like he's trying to promote something on the side, if you know what I mean.

  • I Just Cant believe That We Lost The War But Win Or Lose Vietnamese Must Not Show Weakness Neither Strength Cause Vietnam Is A Country That Is All About Peace And Its People Vietnam Is A Such Beautiful Place Im Viet And Im Proud

  • The movie "journey from the Fall" is made by the American, right? haha people watching movies made by Vietnam will have an opposite oppinion. Movies are just the matter of propagrandas, not to mention made up stuffs to attract the viewers. Shouldn't one use his own brains to think rather than blindly believing in those movies?

  • it's made by american but has vietnmese actors. don't you think that if the facts in the movie isn't accurate the actors will still go along? It's an indie movie btw so it's not propaganda.

  • If Movies are just propaganda why is the Vietnamese government so afraid of allowing Journey from The Fall be shown in Vietnam? Why doesnt the gov't allow asia entertainment to be shown in VN? The people are smart enough to know that it is just popaganda? Whatever, the 600 govenment controlled communist newspapers are the worst popanganda and lying machines in the world.

  • Stupid!

The film made by Vietnamese American. And the truth is 10 times more horrible. You were not boat people, you never understand!

  • So Vietnam has joined the WTO? hmmm i don't know if this is good or bad, but WTO is imfamous for favoring the developed countries.

  • ima viet ♥

  • Sad, very sad that this was the first vietnamese visit to the US since the vietnam war...

  • YOu are right ! +1

  • im viet and im at vietnam as i watch this vid just saying

  • I doubt imperialism would've vietnam much either. I'm not a supporter of communism in the form that it has taken shape in Vietnam. Democracy is crucial to help bring a more equitable society however corruption will likely to exist regardless i.e the Philippines, Iraq?

  • Shame America for once you guys lost a war.

  • Apparently we didn't learn our lesson about not being able to deter guerilla tactics. Search: Iraq war.

  • Yeah, one that didn't matter. An ideological war.
