It's a credit to Caballe's amazing technique and breath control that she could even begin to keep up with that ridiculously fast tempo. Someone should have strangled the conductor. He was obviously not a singer. We need a moment to catch a breath. I'm not usually so negative, but she deserved better than that.
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I fell off my chair when I happened upon her Casta Diva youtube posting you write about. I listen to it often now - and this is one of my favorite. Can't get enough.
yeah ! it is just like oxygen , or sunlight or H2O... you MUST.... accept...EVERY MORNING ...&, at every time it seems to me as my FIRST TIME HEARING...! Unbelievable Reality ! Thank You.
I Love this WOMAN! The Best Soprano ever! The best pianos, the best fortees, the best crescendos and diminuendos ever, beautiful, rare, pure and unique voice..& so Talented.. Real Bell Canto !God Bless Montserrat!
I liked her, but I was watching operas with the young and beautiful Carreras, and she
is 25 older, but adorable even then. Now that I have been listening to her in her younger years I have not enough words to express the extraordinary beauty and qualities - well she's just HEAVEN.
One of the all-time greatest Bel Canto experts, but also with the pipes and breath for the richest & most demanding Verdi and Puccini operas
(and many others of course.) God blessed Monserrat Caballe & we
Her version of this aria, now released on the double-CD "Rarities" is the first rendition I ever heard and is still burned into my brain. I think that version dates to 1967.
Wondrous!

I actually like the tempo. I think the conductor knew he had the priviledge of
working with a "Turbo Jet muscle car"
and he just opened it up and took off.
I'm sure sweet Monserrat would have
discussed it with the conductor if she were unhappy with the tempo. She was
SO PERFECT. I LOVE this particular
performance.

That is poetry you just wrote. I wonder if

a true poetic cadence and rhyme.

Caballe is superb in Rossini's music, comparable to Horne in vocal splendor and bel canto technique.
