Andy was a good comic but I hate the character of Latka..Ok..I dont HATE him, but I dont find him funny at all.Its like repeating the same joke again and again.
If you know anything about production, you can see they are using a blue or green screen in the last scene. You can see the difference in 'crispiness' as well as the overlap in latka's hands behind andy. You really are a dumbass, arent you?
Andy Kaufman is really a comic genius. He is so unlike any other performer and because of that, he is my idol. I'm not afraid to be different or try new things because I've learnt (from Kaufman) that it's alright for people to hate you just as much as they love you, just as long as they are getting a human reaction.
He is a legend in the showbiz industry. Every comedian should try and learn something from him.
@pheeeeelip The greatest thing you could ever learn is to be your own person rather than being one of the 1billion headless lemmings out there following the person in front of them! Your only idol should be yourself!
I got the feeling like this was kind of him doing therapy on himself... like, it was a skit but he really thinks of himself that way and this is how he puts it out there. Like he's taking all this weight off his shoulders by expressing these things.

omfg the creator of this vid is such a fukin idiot...its all sketched..& latka+kaufman is done w/ the camera..hence how they never appear on the same slide...fuktard what an idiot
One of his favorite movies was, "Face in the Crowd", with Andy Griffith. I can see that influence here when he's calling the audience sheep. The character 'Lonesome Rhodes' in the film becomes a star, and in one scene he is doing a TV show and says the same thing without realizing the cameras were still rolling, and the entire country sees his true self and begins to hate him. Great film. Andy Kaufman was fascinated by that whole idea.
Kaufman is making fun of the psychopath who wears the mask of sanity. These are the people who actually run our society who, according to Dr. Hare, are interspecies predators. We had 8 years of a psychopathic president together with his stooge followers. Hats off to Andy and his brilliant mind!
I love Andy. His whole "idiots" thing during the closing credits, to me, was inspired by some of the early radio blooper records, some of which I heard as a kid. There was one famous children's show where the host sang "Good night little kids" and thinking the show was off the air, then said "That out to hold the little bastards." In my opinion, his whole speech during the credits was inspired by this, but only Andy would have taken that nugget and "gone so far" with it. He was a genius.
i do agree with you that he pushed the envelope for future comics. but I do like the mighty mouse skit & definitely Latka character... my russian friend talks like Latka for real!
He actually DID give Foreign Man a name - Baji Kimran - in 1974. He wrote it down, but just never mentioned it onstage... until later anyway, in minor references.
In a Taxi episode during the first season, Latka tells Louie a joke that he heard that particular morning from his "cousin Baji." And around the same time Taxi started, and before the Latka character really took off, he went on the Dating Game as a fake contestant named Baji Kimran.
No. Sheep elected Bush. And now, the farm is over. Sheep are clipped and ran away because they're naked and feel insecure. So they try to hide it with this tough image but inside they're people. Now give me my hamburger!
This is why I love biopics. I discovered Andy Kaufman through Man on the Moon, and Ed Wood through... um... Ed Wood. It's great that an hour and a half of film can foster such an interest in someone I would probably have never experienced otherwise.
Weird.. o.O I just randomly wanted to watch Man on the Moon again, and I just watched Ed Wood. Now that I've been looking into Andy Kaufman I'm beginning to see his awareness of the social trance we live in.
Yeah, it's weird. I was watching some of the "I'm from Hollywood" documentary and he uses the same lines as Clifton when he's yelling at the audience demading silence and saying stuff like "I'm leaving... you will never see this face again". It's bizarre that people took him seriously when he was doing the same lines as the skit from years previous.
It's all in peoples minds. And, Andy knew it. Just because he wasn't wearing a costume or make up & he used his real voice, everyone (or the majority) thought he was serious. It's a bit more complicated than that. But, if you don't get Andy 100%, it would take hours to explain. :) Peace.
Kaufman catered to the masses? You must be a Dane Cook fan. Soooo edgy! Andy Kaufman was brilliant and ahead of his time, anyone who disses him should be beaten like the fat women he took down.

If this loser was "genius" or "brilliant", then so are Adam "I built a career out of 15-year old mentality "comedy" Sandler and Carols Mencia. And since neither of them even approach the galaxy of genius, obviously neither did Kaufman. And Ladka was an idiotic character as funny as hepatitis. Kaufman was a boob, a schmuck who catered to the dumb masses.
Kaufman was brilliant though I he was probably seriously mentally ill. I think Borat was most likley influenced by the Foriegn Man he is his own entity and is also quite hilarous

The Character was Called " Foreign Man".
Nbc hijacked Andy Kaufman and his character for the Tv show Taxi renaming him "Latka", in turn destroying it as it became too mainstream.
Probably the main reason andy kaufman hated taxi so much, lol :)
420Scotland 3 years ago 2
I thought it was ABC.
Kaufman had great respect for NBC by appearing on SNL and Letterman many times.
I think he purposely acted out on ABC's "Friday's" because he couldn't stand ABC.
