Hey, Ive got a CDN BJ60 and am looking to build another truck. Something smaller than the 60 and the OM617 intrigues me. How is the turbo lag on this motor when you are off road? Whats your gearing like and do you find yourself having to work the clutch/ accel pedal more than a gasser? I will not wheel a gas motor anymore after having time in my diesel. Its effortless but Im a little concerned about the powerband of the 617.
@seniormanny Interesting. So, what about in 4 high? I wont have nearly that low in overall, probably closer to 58- 60:1, and my first gear will not be like yours. The 3B is no demon in the power department but it starts making power right off the line which is great for wheeling. I just dont want a motor that is so dependent upon gearing to work off road. Im sure its fine on the road but off of it is where it counts (since it will be a double duty rig).
nice!

@morecarsthanbrains
I found I was using granny in my sm465 more frequently w/the om617 then the stock toyota 2F.
I don't believe this setup would not have been rubicon friendly without the 4.0 orion (tcase).
With a Crawl Ratio of approx. 130:1, the lack of off-idle torque isn't an issue.

How many gallons would you normally use in that section?

@addicted56
I don't believe the stock 15-16 gallons of fuel would be enough, but not sure.
This was my first time, running the trail backwards...always went out Cadillac previously.

@sfsloper
thanks Paul.
You have to get yours on the trail...fj45 run is on labor-day weekend (deer valley).

I used a total of 9 gallons of fuel from Pollock Pines to the springs and reverse-route back to Pollock Pines.
Guess I'll be leaving the jerry can at home next time :)
