What I don't understand is that Liberace always seemed gay--very gay--but since he didn't talk about it, no one else did. It's sort of like Jack Benny. OK, Benny was married, but, come on, Jack Benny's mannerisms couldn't have been more "gay" if he were doing a spoof of a gay man. Thing is, back then people didn't say anything unless the performer made an issue of his sexuality.
His private life was just that...private.It should have stayed that way,and the only thing people should pay attention to is the enormity of his talent. The man, rest his soul, brought so much joy to so many people and all some can focus on is his personal life? They really need to get over themselves.
I performed several times in Las Vegas at the Liberace Showroom...and on his sparkling mirrored concert grand Baldwin piano...in front of broadway stars, producers and media. There was no doubt in my mind that "Lee's" spirit was in the room to help me make it through the performance. Liberace was also an extremely generous man. His foundation has helped countless young musicians for years. Liberace was an original. Musicians and fans will always love him. -Dennis Edwards Music
Not just a brilliant pianist and showman, he was physically beautiful too... almost too angelic to took at... his sweet face in his younger days almost hurts the eyes!
My mother lived in SF area in the 1950s. She had a neighbor who was Liberace's relative. The relative was a lady and a regular person. Liberace visted this relative often. He was always kind to the neighborhood kids and gave them gifts. He looked like a regular guy. He wore penny loafers, plaid flannel shirt and jeans. She said it was hard to believe it was him the way he looked but it was him and they saw him several times. He never turned anyone away.

What's all this stuff about the late great Liberace being gay? Liberace a homosexual? Oh come on....he was the idol of millions & a real red-blooded American he-man. The next thing people will be saying is that Richard Simmons is gay. Oh, the humanity! The rumors that can be found on the internet....quite bizarre (to say the least).

We have no right to judge any one or throw stones for any one's choices. I believe that Liberace was a good man and a well gifted musical entertainer. I am sure God has forgiven him for his weaknesses, he was very blessed to bring his talents to us. I do not care if he was gay, I still like him regardless!
one is not born gay they just chose to and i am going to say this in the nicest way and hope not offened anyone just give them advice if there were ment to be gay people god would have made it Adam and steve not adam and eve there were not ment to be gay people.
I remember reading Liberace being gay was "the best kept secret in Hollywood", that everyone knew he was. Even after he'd successfully sued someone for defamation who'd claimed he was! He just felt it was his own business. His SHOWMANSHIP is what Elton John and others learned from him.
If Liberace was in his 20's today there would be nothing said about is sexual preferences, Nobody would give a toss and he would be rememberd as a great entertainer and also a great pianist,
So what if he was gay! how many people today are in music, films etc gay??
Probably he was gay, but there is no getting around the fact that he was the gifted pianist and entertainer. Elton John, on whom he had a great artistic influence, is actually gay. Liberace also influenced Little Richard and James Brown.
I saw his museum in Vegas yesterday. He is a brilliant pianist and the first bling artist who inspired Elton John. Some clever marketing people need to elevate his stature to stand beside Elvis and Frank as a not forgotten part of that city's culture and entertainment.
Why do people always mention his sexuallity ? What has that got to do with his enormous tallent ? He was a brilliant pianist, showman and a really nice guy, who looked after his Mum.
He was one GREAT Talented Man.
Please.... no more religious hatred and bigotory, quoted from some bible rubbish; after all, it is only unsubstantiated fairytales. You prove otherwise !!!!
If Liberace was 'Gay' then it was nature that decreed it. Therefore it is perfectly natural and acceptable.
@blackpoolbarmpot BUT HIS SEXUALITY Has a lot do with his popularity. He was artistic inclined as most gay men are. And he was handsome and groomed. That appealed to the ladies who found him cultured, polite and most important of all, unattainable.
That's why him being gay has a lot to do with this legacy. But note this programme did not mention his fondness for his own sex.
I would imply like to point out, that saying the bible is "rubbish; after all, it is only unsubstantiated fairytales" is a form of bigotry in of itself. Be it true or not, it's still bashing something that others care about quite a bit in favor of your own beliefs. So please, next time, just voice your opinion. No need for negative comments :)
@blackpoolbarmpot your comment is a year old..i am a classically trained cello and bass player...look at this poor kid violinist who's roomate broadcasted his sexual enconter...then the kid leaps to his death... sad
@blackpoolbarmpot Because it was integral to his story. The fact he could find work at a time when everyone was in the closet is part of his legacy. If it hadn't been for Liberace, things might be very different for performers today. Remember that in Vegas it took Frank Sinatra (in some accounts literally) kicking in the front door of Ceasars (I think, before my time) to get Sammy Davis Jr to come in the front door. Liberace talent was so great in many respects that his talent eclipsed barriers
@blackpoolbarmpot Like totally. I'm gay and what does it matter that me and my LGF Maggs don't shave our pussy so that we taste better after a hot piss.

Actually it was St Paul that judged, which to my mind isn't quite the same thing as God. Christ, who was God' s mouthpiece on earth was (apparently) silent on the subject. In any case, Liberace paid a high price for his conduct, so perhaps we should let him rest in peace and enjoy his musical legacy.
Matthew 7:1-3 Judge not that ye be not judged ... And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
John 8:7 He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone.
I was wondering why he was not drafted for WWII. He was the right age. He may have just been lucky. I recall seeing him in Chicago in 1973 - or 74. What a showman.
4 of 4)He lived his whole life never talking about it publically. What that would do to a person's head isn't fair. I have gay friends and I love them, many of them treat me better than most straight or heterosexual people do. Gays still to this day are ridiculed, can still be denied a job and be killed for who they are. I admired and loved Liberace, he was a sweet, caring and sensitive man. May he rest in peace and I'm sure he is playing piano in Heaven.
(3 of 4)What a crappy heap of cow dung to say about someone as talented as Lee was. Also at that time in 1956 being gay was still a custodial offense. Connor attacked Liberace outright and gave him no choice but to sue to protect his his career. Because of the suit and Lee's denial about his sexuality under oath, Liberace could never publically admit he was gay.
(2 of 4)"He is the summit of sex, the pinacle of masculine, feminine and neuter. Everything that He, She and It can ever want is deadly, winking snickering, snuggling, chromium plated, scent impregnated, luminous quivering, giggling, fruit flavored, mincing ice covered heap of mother love is the biggest sentimental vomit of all time."
(1 of 4) isobel1982, I don't know where you live but in 1956 being gay or homosexual was not accepted at all. It still isn't accepted but to some degree is tolerated. Liberace sued that idiot William Connor back in 1956 in the high court of London for libel claiming the article Connor wrote in his Cassandra column had damaged his career. The article had some of the most outrageous and offensive comments I've ever heard,
If a man has that much talent, how can he not become famous

Listen to George Carlin's monologue about God. He says something like this, "Men with no answer or arguement about anything, they blame it on god."
On the news this morning, the Dad of a fallen soldier said, "God has followed a plan and we have faith our son rests in the arms of god now."
Sorry, when we are dead that's it.

I was wondering why he was not drafted for WWII. He was the right age. He may have just been lucky. I recall seeing him in Chicago in 1973 - or 74. What a showman.

before you criticize the man, make sure you can play piano as well. ;)

That's not Lee playing These Foolish Things, is it? It doesn't sound as flamboyant as Lee's usual playing. Can someone confirm it's Lee? Thanks.

Does anyone know where I might find a recording of Liberace playing this song? Is there a CD with it? Thank you.

he threw his life away, there's a huge lesson to be learned on not taking too much for one's self.
