@Maxinium Build a coal line with a nice distance. Run one train on it with the best loco, and like 10 cars. Avoid big height differenses. As soon as you have enough money, make a small section double tracked, and add signals, and add a second train. Then, wait. Then: build other double tracked sections and build a third train. Do this until you have a decent rating on the ends of the track, then start a second service. Either reuse some double-tracked parts, or start a new line.
@nanderv so it's basically just expanding. I simply pull up 2 2x5 stations, one at each side, and run a single train (usually 6 carriages and a loco) between them, and change/clone that train if the place can handle more. If production rates plummet, I shut down the line.
Add to that: I try keeping my systems as compact as possible, using short trains, and sharing tracks as much as possible. 10 carriages is the MAX.
how do you keep oversight in networks like these
and more important: how do you get the money.
