  • A terrible version! Huge enormous aggressive black mass with stupid erotic allusions and very unprofessional movements... Have a look how it could be excellently staged with Obraztsova in Scala

  • FAT, OLD AND UGLY PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE ON THE STAGE! THEY CAN SING CONCERTS AND RECITALS. BUT NO OPERA!!! OPERA SHOULD HAVE THE SAME CRITERIA AS MUSICAL - IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT MARIA CALLAS, GREAT VOICE AND A VERY INTELLIGENT WOMAN, UNDERSTOOD THAT, AND AFTER A DIET, HAD A BODY AS A MODEL. AND SHE WAS BELIEVABLE IN ANYTHING SHE PLAYED. NO COMMENTS ABOUT THE OLD, OUT OF SHAPE AND VOICE, CHORUS SINGERS.

  • @addadda12

    what a poor comment!

  • @addadda12 get a brain!

  • @addadda12 Curati!!!

  • About the only happy moment in at least the 4 act version of this opera and they stage it like they're in mourning in a mausoleum. This is not where it takes place in the original stage directions for the score!!!

  • About the only happy moment in the 4 act version of the opera and they stage it almost like it's in a mausoleum.

  • Ugly, horrid production. What is with the female chorus imitating castanets? If you're going to stage this scene in a mausoleum, go all the way, dammit.

  • l'adoravo come mezzo e l'adoro come soprano.... grande verdiana la urmana....

  • this production is coming to the met in coming seasons... i forget exatcly when though. it's a cool concept with the set and all, all the names and stuff.

  • Why doesn't anybody comment on her wayward high notes and the fact that she sounds like Brünhilde imitating Eboli?

  • @Gobbi2007

that's what I'm sayin. this is a true soprano voice, not a dramatic mezzo with an extension like the type that is meant to sing eboli. not that im complaining tho. not every role a diva sings will be right for her vocal timbre

  • This is for AMatureComposer (and a couple of the others). Of course you could cast, let's say, Paris Hilton, or similar, in the role of Eboli. Then you would have looks, a nice slim figure, and also not too tall. One small snag is she would not be able to sing it -- which would be a bit of a problem in an opera don't you agree? So which is it you want??? How do you cope with only listening to a recording I wonder?

  • There are enough mezzos who can sing this part a look a little better. Well, I admit it's a bit silly of me to stick to that. However, I'm not 100% sure she fits the part vocally. Her "coloratura" phrases are not the best. Cossotto and Zajick made them sound better.

  • She's tall soprano!!!!!!!

  • why are all these profane people focused on the singer's weight?! this is opera, not hollywood.

  • You are stupid, how many so calles thin mezzos can sing Eboli.

  • Baltsa is. And so was Verrett.

Moreover, though not exactly thin, Cossotto, Borodina and Bumbry looked much better (and much shorter) than Urmana.

All that really has nothing to do with singing, but Urmana is still sings unfocused high a-s...

  • amature,,,she is far from an elephant,,,

  • I hate this staging, why the dark and depressing costumes/scenery? Aren't they supposed to be in a garden? Damn concept operas.

  • because it sounds good as you see :)

Have you seen nadja michael? she is slim!

  • why are all so fat!?!?!

  • oh,,now your just really making me angry! people are people and come in all sizes! not all are sexy hollywood models with air between the ears ..thank God! grow up !!!!

  • @robbie3013 beacuse fat peolpe can also sing, be nurses, drive taxis,be secretaries...fat peolpe can also be your mother...
