He's a method actor, meaning he continues to be "in character" even when the camera stops rolling.

if the character isnt BRITISH, then an actor should not speak the part with a british accent. It has nothing to do with him or a director being ashamed of being british. His character is american, so why would he speak the part with an english accent? Besides both are ENGLISH LANGUAGES, theres no such thing as "speaking american". Maybe you should learn how to speak "intelligent".
