  • The answer to his question.. is very simple.. Alien intervention.

  • Excuse me the Wright Bros. invented the airplane, with NO govt help. If anything, the Govt. stole their inventions and forced them into GOVT controlled court. Telescopes were invented hundreds of yrs ago. Look up the history of each one. Bronowski had a good book on Connections...that is useful. ALL inventions have a history. SCUBA invented by Jacques Cousteau. Govt. wants to seize and control inventions for political use...like the way Communist China limits the internet today

  • there was no govt. funding for Gutenberg, Apple (Steve Jobs) and Wozniak. Henry Ford had none. Hewlett Packard started in a garage. Bill gates had no govt. help. it is true that SOME govt. funding does help, but many of the most important inventions were done in garages...hmmm Should the govt. subsidize garages? Yes govt can help, Bell Labs invented the laser, with some govt help. And radar was subsidized...there are great examples on both sides. But Govt. is NOT essential

  • Yes, Europeans were impacted by germs, but it was hundreds of years ago, not thousands. And, they were almost wiped out by germs of their own making, plagues created by dense large populations - and by many of the same germs that they "exported" to other continents starting in the 1500's. 25% of Europe was eliminated. 24 of 25 million in the Americas were killed by germs or conquest - or 96%. The population of Indians went from 25.3 million in 1519, to a scant 1 million in 1605.

  • no wonder black people are so good on handling my wood

  • It's the truth.

  • ...kingdoms and civilizations have risen and fallen, but all will be replaced by God's Kingdom...

  • there can be only 2 distinct possibilities, 1 god is correct because history and scripture seem to compliment each other very well, or 2 this knowledge has been kept secrets by man and is now being released

  • why is farming better than hunting-gathering according to diamond

  • @annettero22 at 4:40 in this video is one of the reasons

  • @annettero22 There a lot of reasons. Farming can be more reliable at times, which is obviously dependent on the weather and conditions. Hunting and gathering depends fully on the animals and other variables, like the plants, and the chance of actually finding the grass

  • @VolthiasDramos

No the reason farming is superior to hunting gathering is simple. I can produce a good deal more food (value) farming one location than i can hunting (however husbandry also allows this). So why? Well i can take this extra food (value) and TRADE it for a specific good that requires time skill and dedication to perfect say ... METAL INSTRUMENTS. To accomplish this level of skill/experience a good deal of time is needed where the person can not be bother to hunt for their food.

  • @jetrpg22

This is clearly outlined in the wealth of nations by Adam Smith. Who clearly also outline why some cultures progress (gain wealth) faster than others.

  • @jetrpg22 Yes, I guess that's a far better way of saying it.

  • @annettero22 farming can produce a food surplus, making specialising possible for people. this way technological advancement can take place, or creating of armies. the hunter-gatherer is 24/7 on survival mode, only making it barely day by day.

  • i have to read this for ap world history this book is really hard :(

  • @stephar100 Same for me lol The book is kind of confusing and a bit difficult to understand -.- So I had to resort to watching this documentary :3

  • 5:15 funny laugh!!

  • me no strong...you pull it strong it go apuya

  • @MsLeshua808 because they can't stand the book having a movie. lol. i do admit that the movie is not quite as boring as the book and that somethimes the book has kept me from getting bored, but just sometimes.

  • ummm why do people dislike this?

  • according to Sie Meier... Good Huts provide technological advantages but sometimes they can be hostile and won't share ! Or they just give ya 50 gold !

  • is this Civ 2 music?

  • when it came to finding food, hunts frequently ended in failure. You see that in nature with carnivores, and the same thing with humans. Failure could also have a very high price.

  • @WhiteCaucasians

Yes. I am thinking about that. I have been thinking about that. Jared Diamond's been thinking about that for a life time.

How about you start thinking, researching and perceiving, rather than assuming?

  • Europeans were almost wiped out by germs thousands of yrs ago. If you look at India, China, and Africa today the reason they are poor is political corruption: the people at the top will not share in the wealth. And it is the growth of a consumer society that grows the U.S. The most remarkable inventions in this country were done by people in their garages. Not by big corps or govt. Ford, Apple, HP, Gates all worked at home. We must allow that to continue to happen.

  • Your points are off-base.

  • Yes, India, China and Africa have plenty of corruption. But, the book's point is what led to inequality among different civilizations and regions prior to the 1500's, which gave large civilizations with weapons and germs an advantage moving forward, an advantage that allowed them to dominate the planet.

  • And, the most advanced inventions are NOT by individuals, but instead by large government funding - radar, sonar, scuba, the internet, satellites, GPS, explosives, bombs, tanks, planes, aircraft carriers, massive ships, nuclear power, telescopes, tanks - all funded by massive governments.

  • Obviously Europeans (specifically, those of Northwest Europe) were/are the most advanced. They had the industrial breakthrough, and thus they were entirely more advanced than other civilizations around the world. Truth hurts.

  • @adgw1423 not the truth why did it take southen europeans to give them such arts as writing and building

  • @adgw1423 And this applies to you how?

  • quite surprised those ladies had all there toes swinging that axe around willy nilly

  • fuck you diamond and your racist argument root in hell.

  • in the end, its the butterfly effect...

  • My teacher just IDOLIZES Jared Diamond's book. I am even reading it and I love it!! So good......must finish

  • Thumbs up if you think Infinity999ful is a stupid quack.

  • Middle east origins came from Africans traveling from Africa when the Sahara oasis became the desert.

  • Jared you wasted alot of time explaining this! Its simple why others have prospered and others stayed the way they are in reference in equality! Everyone raped Africa for knowledge, raped us for our people, raped us for our lands filled with diamonds and oil and continue to this day, while at the same time. Consider us unfit to be on white ran media TV and other opportunities that whites protect for only themselves.

  • @Odori73 Modern man is from Africa.

  • Diamond omits that the different environments selected for different genetic traits over time. New York Times science writer Nicholas Wade's 'Before the Dawn' & "The 10,000 Year Explosion: How Civilization Accelerated Human Evolution" are more complete in this respect.

  • @infinity999ful your retarted all i got to say

  • @Zohades Please don't say that! You are insulting those who are actually mentally disabled

  • @Zohades You're retarded, that's all I have to say... Learn to spell and write moron.

  • @infinity999ful I'm guessing you believe that somehow humans were created from one all powerful person, even though there is no proof as to how such a person could have existed. I mean did he just randomly pop and and say "Hey, I'm gonna create the world today". Where did he come from then?

  • @StephBkr732 Can you prove that He doesn't exist? how do you know that by Him creating the world in 7 days, that mean 7 human days? 7 days could be billions of years old. so the animal fossils could be millions of years old because each day could have been billions. also, the prehistoric human fossils could also have been mutated apes, which explains why apes still exist today and not died of which according to "natural selections" it should.

  • What a bunch of social romanticist bs. The "voyage into space" was possible bc of Wernher von Braun, the german rocket program, its scientists and nasa. thats it.

    Guten Tag

  • Jared Diamond is Mr politically correct.I'm sure his books sell well in college's doing multicultural studies.

  • Interesting how a native speaks English.

  • For some reason diamond reminds me of the character liet-kynes, from dune.

  • What about the alphabet, literacy, and Gutenberg? Civilizations thrive on the ability to transfer information accurately and quickly. Also the divide of the right and the left brain. Right brain is heavy in non-literate societies. Left brain is more dominate in western (thanks to Gutenberg). Now with the electronic age right and left are coming back as one as simultaneous awareness. So far I'm not seeing Diamond address this and I wonder if he ever does.

  • @seodlotu Why couldn't the new Guineans have been able to develop their own writing? Because they were too busy trying to feed themselves.

  • @Hairysteed not exactly true. you work an average of 7 hours a week to feed yourself, they only need to work around 3-4 a days to get their food. most of the time they spend it chatting and sleeping. And so it's for the hunter gatherer populations.

  • @LapoSettepanze you could be right, but in order to have specialists to develop writing, tools etc there needs to be food surplus, In the case of new Guinea most people were preoccupied with finding food for themselves, even if that may have been 3-4 days a week

  • Of course climates can and will change without human intervention, but if you think 4.5 billion humans burning fossil fuel has little to do with it, then your head is buried very deep in the sand. And that's not 'science' either, it's common sense.

  • Let them build a Space Ship and go to the Moon - hahahahahahaha - Diamond is a lier.

  • " Nobel Prize winner Dr Watson "Blacks are less intelligent than Whites"

The founding father of Genetics Dr Watson related to the Sunday Times that the future of Africa is "Dark" because "Blacks do not have the same intelligence as Whites". The Nobel Prize winner told the times that the world "Pretends Blacks have the same mental ability as whites but the reality is that all the scientific research says thats not true."

Mr Diamond DOES NOT WANT THE REAL ANSWER THATS WHY HE IGNORES IT

  • Wait! WAIT! The climate changed 12,500 years ago? I thought "evil" corporations were the ONLY culprit for climate change! So, ice age then not ice age, then re-ice age, and now it's off again. Those evil profit mongering corporations must have been around 12,500 years ago! Thats the only answer!

  • @0HippyHunter0 Stop being subversive and pay your carbon taxes.

  • @hablerz This actually made me laugh out loud! Thanks

  • @0HippyHunter0

Because the fact that climate can change without human interference obviously proves that human actions can't influence climate at all ever.

    Get a brain!

  • @Molo9000 It doesn't prove that, and I didn't say it did. It DOES prove that the climate can and will change without human intervention. Giving much support to the "we don't understand, yet" theory. This undermines the bullshit we're being fed by the enviromentalists/political left that human are the sole cause; they clearly aren't.

  • @0HippyHunter0

Climate changes without human intervention, but it doesn't just change for no reason.

There are plenty of "natural" things that influence climate like the activity of our sun or the Earth's orbit or volcanic activity or clouds, but none of those things can explain the climate change over the last 100 or 150years or whatever.

  • @Molo9000 This is absolutely not true. There are many scientists offering many explanations of why climate change is happening, including some that say climate change is a natural cycle which we don't fully understand. Those advocating for a human-only theory of global warming have demanded, since the beginning, that the debate is over and the science is settled; now its time to enact their policies. This is not how science is done!

  • ok not stay off or sorry to be off topic but

if you dyed diamonds hair balck and gave him a black tall top hat wouldnt he look like abraham lincoln?

    look 1:31 to 1:37

    great show btw

  • I don't like the sentence "he is a scientist, not a historian." ... HISTORIANS ARE SCIENTISTS!! We use the same scientific methods, with other means.

  • im watching this for my political science class and i have to write a critical analysis on it. Good thing its on youtube!

  • we watched this movie in our world history class and we are doing a lot of comprehension questions for homework. I never could have answered them without seeing this video again!!! Thank you!!!!!! I also have a big quiz on it tomorrow and this really helped me study!!!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!!!

  • good video.... been findin this for months

  • As for getting to the moon, ask any science historian; and they will surely confirm that Mans voyage into space(still in its infancy) is possible b/c of a culmination of contributions made by civilizations since man first tried to cross a river. From the man who made the first ax to the ones wearing the spacesuit everything and everystage in between was equally important. We didnt just wake up in Cape Kennedy& decided to launch a rocket at 1/2 time of the Superbowl.

    paz/peace/salam/shalom

  • @translationwiz Folks that don't realize this chain reaction of discovery should direct attention to the book "The day the universe changed" by james burke. Also his series on bbc called "connections"

  • @translationwiz haha was it really at half time?

  • Who made this documentary? Guess I won't have to read the whole book then :)

  • @OrangeOceanOctopus You should read the book anyway. Its good.

  • @OrangeOceanOctopus You should read the book anyway. Its good.

  • what were the 3 main objectives to answering yalis question?

  • anyone know objections to yalis question?

  • aztecs are a beautiful culture.

  • @xxxEmmureOwnxxx

They were cannibals and they ritually sacrificed thousands and ate their hearts yeah real beauty.

  • Great video that completely smashes white supremacy. Jared Diamond did a great job!

  • @TheJomogogo Who cares if whites went to the moon?! Was that trivial technological feat worth the savageness and genocide they left behind. If the moon could support life I would bet the whites would have fucked that place up by now. You must feel so proud.

  • This guy is such a bogus fruitcake. He would probably have you believe physical strength and athletic prowess has nothing to do with genes, if he could. He's a quack.

  • He speaks all their languages yet he cannot lose his jewish brooklyn accent ;D

  • the video is a little more ambiguous and vague than the book: when the narrator says "Europeans", he actually means "Eurasians".

  • the New Guinaen who asked why whites have so much, would be suprised if knew Europeans once lived in bush camps too long ago. everything we got to enhance material life we got from the Middle East!! us Europeans wuz to stupid to invent marble floors and huge stone cities!=Persepolis!! so we copied it all!

  • @acerb45666555

Yeah, they were so 'stupid' they barely built Stonehenge and developed an Iron Age civilisation in Britain with little or no input from the 'enlightened East'.

  • @SD78 .......oh yes, we did well in the Iron Age, on dirt floors!! while in the east they had much better stuff! stuff Greece and Rome used to have! i have no use for the invading Roman legions, but nuthins wrong with indoor heated floors! Britons in the south adopted that stuff for a bit till the Saxons wrecked it all.

  • @acerb45666555

ancient Britain was more advanced 5000 years ago than most of the 'New World' peoples were in the age of colonisation, or even today in some cases.

Ancient Greece totally dominated 'the superior East', all the way to India. There was this guy Alexander, you may have heard of him.

  • @SD78 Much of the "superior" Europeans were also dominated by the Mongols. Eastern Europe was under rule by them for decades. There was this guy named Kublai Khan. You may have heard of him as well.

  • @ak47608

Tell that to Jared Diamond. He only mentions the Mongols in passing once in his entire book.

A ragtag alliance of nomadic horsemen dominating numerous technologically superior city-states kind of disproves his entire thesis...

  • @SD78 No, it doesn't.

  • @awesome220

    Yes it does.

    Re-read my previous post.

  • @SD78 What a joke. Yes I've heard of Alexander. He did not dominate anyone. He came with a huge army, killed everyone he saw in the way and reached the border of India. He fought a small king called Porus and faced a very difficult battle. He won but pardoned Porus and turned back. He was 25 years old at this time. He died on his way back to at the age of 32 without having entered the mainlands of India. So please get your facts right.

  • @samarthkarwal

LMAO@'Alexander not dominating anyone'...what, do you mean aside from basically the entire Mediterranian and Middle East ALL THE WAY to India, like I said???

Did you use your 6 other accounts to vote this comment up in the space of 5 hours? You might want to read the Youtube EULA.

  • @samarthkarwal Yep a huge army compared too......wait....he faced larger armies multiple times? Oh! That means your wrong.

  • I do not know exactly if this is correct, but new studies keep proving that 13 000 years ago there was civilization and agriculture in the America's already ..

  • You can't be a great civilization without some form of slavery or servitude or warfare....I doubt there was every a time where equality was the norm for humans.

  • He is coming from an evolutionist perspective. This throws things off for me because this planet is only a little more than 6000 years old... According to the Scriptures...

  • so t hen do you think that a society's success depends solely, or partially, on their surrounding environment?

  • Jared Diamond has a really annoying voice.

  • @georgel19841 Are you mentally retarded?

  • @Freshhhhh1982

I think it's pretty obvious that he is lol

  • bras need to be given to these women.

  • march/progress faster towards what? annihilation? the egyptians, the myans, the greeks - thay're all gone, the new guineans are still there!

only a civilized idiot would conclude the dead civilizations were more 'advanced' than living communities

  • @planktonicorganism so your saying that the US or Europe today arent advanced because they will disappear one day? THAT is idiocy

  • @stryke100

yeah dude. it depends on your definition of advanced. living communities are so integrated into their environment that they actually benefit the environment... the us and europe are so seperated from the living environment that they're murdering the land on which they depend... but if you think being extinct is advanced then hold on, we're about to be advanced beyond your wildest dreams.
